Chapter 2 An Accident

Five years later, at a quaintly decorated pharmacy in Cloudmere.

Deanna had just sold a batch of medicinal herbs, earning a decent income.

Feeling good, she walked towards her parked car, planning to treat the two little ones in the car to a nice meal later.

Five years ago, she gave birth to twins and settled in the outskirts with her grandmother. There, she met an old doctor who taught her medical principles and how to identify various herbs and cultivate them.

For the past five years, she had been supporting her family with this.

Now, her two children had grown up healthy, and life was going smoothly and happily.

Lost in thought, Deanna passed by Middletown Square.

At the moment, a large LCD screen above the square was playing a news report.

"New rising star in the entertainment industry, young lady of the Jones family—Emily Jones, is about to marry Raphael Howard, the heir of the Howard family. After a five-year-long courtship, their love will finally bear fruit."

Deanna suddenly stopped in her tracks and looked towards the screen.

She happened to see the couple in the footage taking wedding photos, embracing each other affectionately, brimming with love!

This scene stung Deanna's eyes and felt like a heavy blow to her heart.

Raphael had once promised to love her only, marry her, and be together forever with her.

But what she got in return was his swift cancellation of their engagement, followed by being with Emily.

During that time, he never gave her an explanation for what happened that night!

Deanna almost suspected whether that night was deliberately planned by him to quickly get rid of their engagement...

Her thoughts churned violently in her mind, and it took Deanna quite some time to calm down.

Her children were waiting for her, both of them overly clever. She didn't want them to notice anything unusual about her!

Soon, Deanna arrived at her parking spot.

She got into the car, sat in the driver's seat, looked through the rearview mirror at the backseat, and saw the two cute little ones sitting patiently, waiting for her.

The boy had a delicate face with wise eyes and pursed lips, while the girl had big, clear eyes that blinked innocently, looking very cute.

Though their personalities were different, their features were quite similar, like beautiful dolls in a showcase, each holding a little white kitten in their arms.

Four adorable creatures sat in the backseat, behaving very well.

Seeing Deanna, they flashed bright smiles of joy. "Mommy, you're back?" "Mommy, welcome back! We've been waiting for you for a long time!"

The little kitten: "Meow, meow, meow~"

Deanna's heart was almost melted.

"Mommy, did you have a good income today?" Gregory's childish voice expressed concern.

Deanna laughed as she fastened her seatbelt. "Not bad. All the herbs were sold, so tonight mommy can take you out for a big meal."

"Wow!" Chloe cheered, her eyes sparkling. "Mommy, can we have a seafood feast? I want that."

"Of course." Facing the children's hopeful eyes, Deanna couldn't bear to refuse and readily agreed. "Let's go for a seafood feast."

"Let's go!" Chloe raised her little hand in agreement.

"..."

Deanna started the car and drove off.

She had bought a used car, which was old and worn out because it was cheap, mainly used for deliveries.

Clank, clank...

Halfway through the journey, the car suddenly broke down, and Deanna hadn't even realized what had happened.

Suddenly, there was a loud noise behind her.

"Ah!"

Deanna was frightened, subconsciously screamed, and the car under her inertia surged forward for a distance, shaking as if it was about to fall apart.

"Gregory, Chloe!"

She immediately turned to look at the two little ones in the safety seats in the back.
