Chapter 3 - Childish antics

Flashback

~Little girl couldn't stop her tears and sobs as her sister broke the news to her.

They are moving.

She will have to leave the small town on the hill behind, her friends, her home.... Scarlett.

"I'm sorry... I'm so sorry Addy. I don't want to go neither, but we have to. We finally found mom and dad. We can't stay here anymore."

The sixteen years old girl spoke, the sadness evident in her voice.

But, why though? They left both of them behind. Why would they want them back now?

Addriane looked back to see Scarlett looking between the two sisters with tears streaming down her face.

She ran into the twelve year old's arms and sobbed in her shoulder. Scarlett held her and soothed her by running her fingers through her hair and whispering in her ear.

"It's going to be ok. I promise."

It calmed Addriane down a little, but she still clung on to Scarlett as if she was hers lifeline.

"You have to go baby. You will meet your parents, and you will always have everything that you want. You'll see, it's going to be great."

She tried to calm the little girl down, but couldn't stop her own tears from falling and heart from breaking. She won't be able to live without her little miracle. She won't be able to live with Charlotte and Addriane anymore, and she will have to go back to her foster family. And it's gonna be even worse than before.

'No.' She thought. 'I don't want to even think about that.'

Addriane raised her head and allowed Scarlett's soft hands to wipe the tears away from her cheeks.

She sniffed and spoke.

"I will come back, Scar. I will, I promise."

Scarlett clutched the six years old in her arms and she kissed her hair.

"And I promise that I will wait for you. No matter how long it takes. I will wait forever if I need to. And then we are going to get married and live happily forever after."

Charlotte cleared her throat, interrupting the little lovebirds.

"You know, you guys can kiss if you want to. I'm not watching."

She turned around, and Scarlett and Addriane leaned in and pressed their lips together. It was short and sweet, but it symbolized a promise of love.

"I love you Addy."

"I love you too Scar."

If only the adult world was so simple.~

My room is dark. It's not even morning yet.

Alarm clock on my nightstand showed three in the morning. Well,shit.

When I touched my face, there were traces of tears there. I was crying in my sleep.

Scarlett.

Tears started again, and I clutched my chest. I couldn't stop the loud sobbing,and it woke Charlotte up.

She came to my room and rushed to me.

"Addriane! Addy, are you alright? What's wrong sweetie?"

I couldn't speak from the crying, so I just curled up in her arms until I calmed down enough to speak.

"Scarlett..."

Charlotte understood immediately, and she tried to soothe me, but, all in vain.

"You are thinking about her non stop, huh?"

I shook my head.

"No, that's not it. I- I saw her today."

She looked genuinely surprised to hear that. So I told her everything that happened, and ended up crying even harder than before.

"Shhh. Let me tell you how it seems to me."

Charlotte made me look up, and she wasn't hugging me anymore.

"First possibility is that she really forgot you, which is unlikely, because I remember how close the two of you were, and based on how she acted when she realized who you are, it's impossible that she doesn't remember.

And the second possibility is that she cares a lot more than she lets on. Why would she ignore you if she didn't care. She would have acted just like she acts with any other student, and she would have talked it out with you."

I sighed. She is actually right. But, why is she so cold towards me then. And...

"But, Char, she has a fiancé."

My sister shook her head.

"Addy, you know that Scarlett has always been a tad.... Difficult. I'm one hundred percent sure that she has feelings for you. She has been through some awful things, and I'm sure that if you are completely honest with her, she will be honest with you too. Talk to her tomorrow. Make the move. But, don't get the girl fired for goodness sakes. Stay low key about it."

I nodded and smiled at my sis.

"Thanks Char. Always there to help."

She kissed my head and got up.

"Always there for my little sister."

~~~~~~~~~~~~
To say that I dreaded fourth period would be an understatement. Currently, I'm sitting in second, History, and frankly, I couldn't give a rat's ass about what happened in 1814. All I can think about is how I'm gonna approach Scarlett about this.
I have talked with Jake and Lucy, and Lucy agrees with Charlotte, while Jake just kept on asking me about my sis.
The bell finally rang, and we made our way to the third.
The three of us have all the classes together, except for art.
And, as we were walking in the hallway, we saw an opportunity we couldn't miss.
Our third period teacher, Mr Hastings was an old asshole. He couldn't see or hear right, but he didn't want to retire. He just loved to torture kids.
He'd make us stand or crouch for the whole period, and we'd have to write on the floor.
So, he currently didn't have his glasses on, and was looking for something with his cane.
Both Jake and Lucy smirked, and I'm absolutely sure that the same thing is in our minds.
"Mr Hastings!"
Jake yelled to get the old grump's attention.
"Ahh, I got old! Please, could you lead me to the bathroom?"
Our grins spread even more.
"Of course, Mr Hastings. You are our favorite teacher. This way, please."
We led him a bit astray though. To the janitor's closet.
"Thank you very much, Johnson, Hale, Ryder."
I took the key from the inside, and locked the door once he was inside.
Giggles erupted from our throat as we run to the classroom to announce that we have a free period.
Of course, everyone was overjoyed to hear that. Lucy, me and Jake aren't the only ones who hate him.
We all went outside, but got a little ahead of ourselves. The principal was already outside, talking on the phone.
It was as if he saw a ghost when he saw us.
"What are you guys doing out? Mr Hastings is in school, so why aren't you on Spanish?"
The class president was pushed in front of us all.
"Umm, well, he's not in school anymore. He went away somewhere."
The principal sighed and waved his hand in the air.
"I'll ask Miss Smith to hold this period, so you won't need to stay on the fourth. You don't have any classes after than anyway."
Oh, God...
Lucy shot me a look, and Jake placed his hand on my shoulder.
"Well, mate, good luck."
I breathed in deep.
"Thanks Jake. I'm gonna need it."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Of course, Scarlett is ignoring me again. No surprise in that.

She was talking something about the nervous system, but I couldn't find it in me to listen.

But, even though I wasn't paying attention to what she is speaking, I'm paying more than enough to her voice.

It flows from her lips so smoothly, and it's so soft, yet has the edge.

Everything about her is perfect. My heart still aches for her, even though she is the one who broke it.

Today, she is wearing damn too tight skinny jeans that hug every curve perfectly, and a plain white shirt, which was by the way also tight, and showed off a good amount of cleavage.

Shit, I'm starring at her too hard.

She must have felt someone's eyes on her, because she turned around, and the moment she did, her eyes met mine.

They were big, and warm, and like a child's.

They were my Scarlett's eyes.

She didn't look away. I didn't let her. At least for s couple of seconds.

But, I could have sworn that she blushed. Aweee.

"S-So... Yeah c-class, that w-w-would be it..."

She doesn't look up, but her face is beat red, and she even stuttered.

I know it, she just has to have feelings for me. Char and Lucy are right.

There were couple violent knocks on the door, and when Scarlett opened it, the principal marched in, almost red from the evident anger on his face.

His eyes searched the classroom, and landed first on Jake, than on me, and then Lucy.

"Ryder, Hale and Johnson!"

I grined at him, even though I knew that we were in deep shit because of Mr Hastings.

"Hi principal, today is a nice day, don't you think so?"

If he was angry before, he was furious now.

From the corner of my eye, I saw Scarlett trying to stifle a laugh. My heart danced in its cage.

I made her laugh!

"In. My. Office. Now!"

All three of us stood up and went after him. As I was exiting the room, I felt someone's eyes on me.

I didn't even need to look back to know who is it.

We walked to the office, and the principal slammed the door shut behind us.

"Are you retarded? You surely don't look so to me? So what is your excuse?"

The three of us bowed our heads down, and hoped that we would get out of this with no consequences.

He sighed, and softened up a little.

"I know that Mr Hastings is old, and a bit evil, but, that doesn't excuse what the three of you did."

Yeah, I guess that we did go a little... Wild...

"You guys know that I can't just let you go. Firstly, you are going to apologize to the damn grump, and then, all of you will have a detention for the next two weeks."

Detention shouldn't be a problem. The three of us together can drive any teacher wild.

"Of course, separately."

Well, crap.

Our faces sunk, as we accepted our cruel fate.

The principal pointed a finger to each one of us, and told us which teacher we go to the detention to.

"Jake, go to Miss Mendes. Lucy, you get Mr Hastings. I'm sorry, but he is free last period."

Poor Lucy. I feel for her.

Well, I can't draw shorter straw than her.

"Add, Miss Smith."

Or so I thought.

Alright. Two weeks of detention with Scarlett. What could possibly go wrong?
