Chapter 1 - Prologue
Flashback~
~"Adrianne, come here and see something!"
Twelve years old girl's voice rang throughout the house. She spent every day with her little friend in the house in a small town on a hill.
A six years old girl's head appeared behind a wall, with her brown ponytails hanging off of her little head.
The only thought running through Scarlett's head is how in her twelve years of life she hasn't seen a more beautiful kid than Addriane. She was her little miracle. Her pretty brown hair and the always present shine in the eyes of the same colour.
Her cute white smile could melt any frozen heart that there is. She melted her own.
Addriane shyly approached Scarlett and wrapped her arms around the older girl's neck before speaking in that squeaky voice of hers.
"What is it, Scar?"
Scarlett loved the given nickname. She loves anything that leaves her cute little mouth.
She kissed Addriane's head and stood up, brushing the dirt off her knees.
"I found two puppies. One for you and one for me. I'm sure that your sister will let us keep them."
Smaller girl's shyness suddenly disappeared as she jumped to the box which contained two dogs.
One was black and had a white heart on his side, and the other one was white and had an identical white heart on his side as well.
"Look Scar! They match! I want the white one! Please!"
Scarlett knew that she couldn't refuse her anything, so she took the black puppy in her arms, and Addriane took the white one.
"Yayy! Thank you Scar. I love you!"
Addriane surely had no way of knowing what those words did to the orphan girl beside her.
Her stomach did flips, her arms were sweating, the heart was racing, and she felt herself blushing.
She tried to stop feeling this way. She really did. But, it was in vain. The little girl always found her way around the walls that Scarlett has built around herself.
She put both puppies down and hugged Addriane.
"I love you too."
Little did she know that the six years old meant those three words. She felt wonderful when she had Scarlett around. Like she has the whole world to herself. She would even give her the last pancake. If that is not love, then what is it?
"Scar, but, it's that kind of love where I want to marry you when we get older."
Scarlett's heart stopped dead in her chest.
She knew all too well that two girls aren't supposed to marry each other. They weren't supposed to love each other like this. But, what is she to do when the only one who actually sees her is Addriane. She knows when she isn't well, and she is always there to share happiness with.
She smiled at the little girl and kissed her forehead.
"Yeah, let's get married when we're older."
The six-year-old smiled from ear to ear, and she pointed to her lips.
"Kiss me here Scar."
Scarlett looked at the little thing in awe. She didn't know if she should do it or not, but, as it always is, she can't say no to Addriane.
She leaned down and put her lips on hers. They were soft and warm, and she didn't dare move. But after some time she pulled away, both of their's cheeks flushed.
It was their first kiss.~
"Addriane."
"Addriane, damn it!"
Someone shook me straight out of my daydream. Too bad, I was at least having fun remembering the good times.
When I turned around, I found both Jake and Lucy starring at me.
"You done with your daydreaming? Your sister called. She's gonna pick you up, and she's bringing Scar."
Jake always had a thing for my sister. It was no secret. But, come on, she is ten years older than him.
Awwee, I haven't had time to take Scar out for a walk in like forever. Poor little guy.
When I move back to my hometown, I will have time to walk him everyday.
He will even have his old friend Ady back. His smaller black counterpart.
And I will have Scarlett.
God, do I miss her. Only one more year in this shithole, and I will see her again. After eleven years. And, just like she promised, we will get married, and live happily forever after.
"Addriane! Don't space out every five seconds!"
Lucy's sharp voice echoed in my ears, and she slapped my arm.
"Ouch, what was that for."
She huffed, and looked as if she was ready to list all the things that I have ever wronged.
"Well, a lot of things, but mostly that how you are not able to have a normal conversation with your best friends without spacing out and thinking about running away again."
I made an innocent face at her, and that pissed her off even more. Hahaha. I love doing that.
"Add, please, we haven't seen each other the whole summer break. What's going on? Did you manage to contact Scarlett?"
Both of my friends know about my feelings for a woman, and they are perfectly ok with that.
I sighed before giving them an answer.
"No, I haven't. I have tried, of course, but, it's like she changed her phone, her name, everything. There isn't a single trace of her.
Lucy and Jake looked at each other before sympathetically looking at me.
"Add, did you ever think that maybe... I don't know, she moved, built her own life. She is twenty three by now."
My head shook with every word they said. No, it's not like that. I know it.
"No. I know that she is there. She promised me. When I was moving, she promised me that she will wait until I come back. She'll wait for me. Surely."
Both my friends sighed in defeat, as they saw that there is no point in arguing with me.
Instead, they changed the topic.
Lucy was the first one to speak.
"Hey, did you guys know that we got a new science teacher? I heard that she is young and hot. Only twenty three."
Jake looked absolutely uninterested. All because of my sister. He, Charlotte-my sister, and Lucy were a weird love triangle. Lucy likes Jake, Jake loves Charlotte, and Charlotte.... Well, she has hots for Lucy. Jake doesn't know that, thanks God.
Our teacher's last name captured my attention.
Miss Smith.
Like Scarlett. Her last name is also Smith.
Jake turned in now.
"Yeah, she might be hot, but, I heard that she is too strict. Nobody gets an A in her class. Too bad for you Add."
I rolled my eyes. I'm a straight A student, and science is my favorite subject. I won't let some new teacher beat me.
"She can be strict all she wants, I'll have an A."
Jake and Lucy laughed at my confidence, although I found nothing funny in it.
"Ahh, you are always so full of yourself. But, not in the bad way of course. There is nothing bad about you. You are ours cinnamon roll."
They both hugged me (By hugged, I mean suffocated) and didn't let go for good ten minutes.
They call it group hug. I call it ten minutes of torture.
Just as I had enough and looked to the door, trying to shake them off of me, a whip of dark brown hair appeared and disappeared in an instant.
