Felix was disappointed by Jane's behaviour, he did not expect this from her. Jane kept her head low, she knew what she did was wrong but it was her life and she had every right to decide what happens in it
"It is my life and I will make decisions that are best for me, decisions that I know will make me happy. This isn't really my fault, am aware that I am betrothed but were is he when I asked to see him you all refused and now you blame me for it, how can I marry someone I don't know, I know Williams and I love him our wedding will hold and I will marry him".
No one said anything after Jane's outburst, all kept quiet and looked at Jane ,until Mr Matthew finally spoke up.
" since you have decided to marry him it's fine by me , but just so you know I wash my hands off this marriage, if anything were to happen in future it has absolutely nothing to do with me".
Jane was shocked she did not expect her father to say such a thing.
"Dad".
Mr Matthew looked at his daughter and said
" until you cut ties with him you have nothing to do with me ".
Mr Matthew stood up and Felix followed him. Jane and Mrs Matthew were left in the setting room.
"Jane, is this really what you want, are you sure you won't regret your decision "? Jane's mom asked.
" Yes mom this is what I want and I know I won't regret it ".
Her mom was pissed at her reply .
"You barely even know him, what if he's abusive or has bad intentions towards you, I have had so many rumours about him. really bad once".
" Mom! They are just rumours, I know he won't hurt me ".
Jane walked towards her mother and sat down beside her.
"how certain are you that he won't hurt you? how long have you been with him?"
"Mom you know I've loved for a while, I really do love, I got this chance and am not going to let it slide. Mom you have to trust me if he doesn't treat me well I will leave. It's not a do or die affair so don't worry ".
Mrs Matthew frowned " Jane does he love you or he's just using you as a cover to avoid rumours. I'm sure that once he has achieved his aim he will toss you away. When he does this what can you do to him? NOTHING, absolutely nothing, you can't do anything to him since you willingly chose to be used. Jane you need to think things through before you decide. you can't decide things just like that".
Jane looked at her mother. She knew it would be difficult to convince her mother but her decision was final and she won't let any one stop her.
" Mom I've thought things through and this is what I really want, I want to be with him. Mom, you have to trust me I know what i'm doing ".
Mrs Matthew looked at her daughter and she didn't know how to talk her out of this.
"No Jane! you don't know what you are doing and that is what scares me most. I know you will regret this and us why I'm trying so hard to stop you, stop this now before you get hurt"
Jane was angry that her mom wasn't supportive.
"Mom, I thought that you of all people would understand me but I guess I was wrong ".
Jane stood up and went to her room to pack her things. She was prepared to leave when her mother said
" Jane if you leave don't bother coming back and I mean It"
Jane was shocked by these words she never expected her mom to say this.
"Mom!"
"Am serious Jane once you step out of that door don't come back".
Jane was sad but she refused to back down, she stood her ground.
"Fine! Since that is what you all want I will leave and never come back".
Her words broke Mrs Matthew. Her heart was broken, she wept at her daughter's departure.
After Jane left Mr Matthew and felix came out from the study, he walked to the living room and sat down with Mrs Matthew.
"It seems like James Williams has decided on a date, their wedding will be held in twenty days time. I have decided to push the development of our branch in country F forward. We will leave after the wedding. The last thing we will do for her is to be present at her wedding ".
Mr Matthew gave her details of what he discussed with Felix earlier, but Mrs Matthew seemed to be against this idea.
"What about Jane are we supposed to leave her here on her own, no matter what she's still our daughter, we can't just leave her to fend for herself, what if something happens to her how are we supposed to protect her".
Mr Matthew stared at his wife. He slowly stood up from the chair and said
"She made her choices. She is an adult and she can make her own decisions. You need not worry about her, she's smart and can fend for herself. The house will be in her name, atleast she can have a place of her own. This is all I can do for her".
Mrs Matthew knew that her husband's decision was final, nothing she said would make any difference, so she kept quiet.
Mr Matthew called his lawyer and asked him to change the ownership of the house to his daughter and it must be clearly stated that the house can not be sold or transferred to anybody and also the house can not be rented or leased to anyone. The lawyer did exactly as he was told no question asked.
