Chapter 6

I finish patching up the last wolf and I pull off my gloves with a sigh. "I'm totally beat," I say to Blaine without looking at him.

"I could imagine. Tough training, then you play nurse for a few hours after. Where did you learn this anyway?"

I knew he was talking about my medical skills. With a smirk, I look up at him with my right index finger planted firmly against my lips. "It's a secret."

Blaine looked on at me annoyed with a scowl plastered on his face. I giggled amused that he was annoyed by me not telling him. Soon his gaze went blank and his gaze focused beyond me. He was mind linking.

"Mason wants to see you."

I nod a little worried about what he wanted to say. I wasn't going to stop training so I hoped the conversation wouldn't come to that.

I follow Blaine back to the house in silence as I think of all the possibilities that could arise from this conversation.

"Knock him dead Luna," Blaine said to help ease my worry. I threw back a shy smile before I opened the door and stepped into Mason's office.

The first thing I noticed was the smile on his face. "You seem nervous."

"A little." I lie. My heart is beating frantically with worry.

"Don't be. I just wanted to thank you for helping out today. Who would have known you were a wolf of many talents?" I look down at my feet, cheeks burning from the compliment.

"Did anyone take care of your hands?"

I snapped my head up to see he was no longer smiling. Instead, his stern demeanor had returned in its place.

"Well no. I never get them treated. It helps to toughen them up."

Mason didn't look like he approved but didn't voice his concern either. He just nodded before changing the subject. "The reason I asked you here is that I want you to come with me when I get the DNA test done."

Was I shocked? Absolutely. Of course, I would go with him but I'm shocked he wanted me to.

"Of course I will. Scared V's gonna bite?"

He gives me a half-smirk that seemed forced before he gets up from his desk. He walks to the front of it before he leans against it crossing his arms. "No. More worried she won't be mine." He was rubbing the back of his neck and looking down at the ground.

Here Mason was telling me he is dreading exactly what I want to happen. I slowly make my way over to him and wrap my arms around him before I lay my head on top of his. "Whatever happens I know you'll figure it out."

I wanted to say 'we' but thought it better not to. We stayed that way for a while before he pulled away.

"I'm sure you need sleep since you have training in the morning." I nod to show that I agree with what he says before slowly walking towards the door.

"Angel." He says before I can make it to the door, stopping me in my tracks to look back at him. "Thanks." He states simply with a half-smile. "Night."

"Night Mason," I say back and walk out of the door before closing it and leaning against it. I didn't want to ruin the moment we just had but it took everything in me not to question the new nickname he has used for me.

He had a nickname for Cassie too. Does that mean he's actually accepting me as his mate? I try to ignore the question on my mind as a way to cope with the fact that he may never love me back.

Before the tears could come I take a deep breath and force myself up from the wall and head towards my room. Hopefully, tonight will be the night I finally get sleep.

*****

"I'm not going." I glare in Blaine's direction. He was coming if he liked it or not. I needed him and Alexandra to be there for me.

"You don't get a choice."

"Then who is looking after the pack while we're gone?"

"Avery," I state shortly.

He opened his mouth to say something else but he quickly closed it. I'm sure he realized that Avery was definitely qualified or remembered that he was even here.

"I really need you there." He sighed before finally caving. "Fine. I don't see what it's going to help with me being there."

I smirk as he keeps ranting before he finally left out of my office.

Like he told Alexandra. He's like a brother to me. He helped me when I overthrew my dad and he's sticking with me when Austin is trying to take over my pack. That's why I need him to go with us tomorrow when I find out if Harmony is mine. I need him there.

Hearing the knock on my door I could already tell it was Caleb.

"Come in."

Caleb wasn't perfect by any means but he wasn't that bad either. No one knew his story or his parents. He was taken in by the pack when he 13 and he has kind of acted out since.

"What'd I do this time?"

"Nothing. Wanted to tell you that Blaine and I are going to be gone for a day or two and I need you on your best behavior."

Caleb still didn't look at me. Instead sighing deeply as it pained him to even think about being good.

"Why should I?"

"Because Avery will be left in charge. He put all of the warriors in the hospital because they annoyed him. I doubt he'll be nicer because you aren't mature."

An eye roll meant that he didn't really care. He'll learn his lesson one day and Avery might be the one to give it to him.

"What about the girl?" He asked completely out of the blue shocking me. "What girl?"

"The one who trains with the warriors?"

He was talking about Alexandra. I was a little confused why he brought her up but answered him anyways.

"She's coming with us. It's her pack we are going to and-"

"I thought she was with our pack?"

He asks too many questions. "No, she isn't. She's just here to help."

"So after you beat Austin she's going back?"

I was getting irritated with him asking all these questions about Alexandra. "What does it matter?"

"I guess it doesn't."

Finally, Caleb was back to normal. Mad for no reason and not talking.

*****

Since I was the only one functioning well at 6 in the morning I drove us to the airport. I didn't pack a bag because...well I didn't need one. I was going home after all.

It was only me, Mason, Blaine, Michelle, and the baby. There was no entourage like when I travel with V and Cassie.

Thankfully that meant getting through check-in and security much faster. We were walking towards the gate when I felt someone tug on my arm.

Looking back I see Blaine trying to pout at me. "Can you believe he made me come too?"

I laugh as I nod my head yes "Of course. You're his brother."

"He said the same thing too." He muttered annoyed.

I shake my head at him before I focus my gaze back on him. "This is one of the biggest moments of his life. He might be a father and he'll need support. You should be happy that he wants you there for this moment."

"Are you?"

I looked at Blaine completely confused by what he meant. "Are you happy he wants you here for this moment?"

"I'm only coming because it's happening at my pack. It's not like he wanted me to be there with him." It hurt to say it. I just want to be honest with myself. Others try to think optimistically. Not me.

"You're wrong." I turned to argue with Blaine but saw how serious he really was. Was I wrong? Did Mason actually want me there?

A monotone female voice boomed from the overhead speakers. "We will now begin boarding for flight 146 bound for Richmond, Virginia."

"That's us," I say as I quickly get up to change the subject that Blaine brought up.

I stand between Michelle and Blaine with Blaine being behind me. Walking towards our seats I see that we are in business class. Michelle puts Harmony's car eat in the middle seat and she takes the window. Mason is sitting behind her in the window seat staring outside of it. I go to walk past him when I feel something push me. I try to grab the seat but still fall into Mason's arms that he held out in an attempt to break my fall.

I glare back at Blaine who was smiling triumphantly. "Sorry. I was trying to put up my bag."

Like hell he was. "Are you okay?" I look up at Mason and quickly scurry to get out of his hold. "Fine. You know Blaine."

He just nodded with a half-smile. "That I do."

It got awkwardly silent between us and I didn't know what to say. As soon as I opened my mouth to say something he beat me to it. "Don't worry I will probably be sleeping most of the ride."

I just nod my head. "Okay."

*****

I really was probably going to just sleep most of the plane ride there but why did I tell her that? It was just so awkward and silent I just said the first thing I could think of.

She was intently listening to the safety video while I stared at her contemplating if I should tell her exactly why I wanted her to come with me.

I decide against it and just close my eyes as I lean back into the headrest to try and catch up on all the sleep I've lost in the last few months but couldn't.

Sighing I give up and open my eyes. It's only been 30 minutes. Alexandra looked at me a little concerned. "Did I wake you?"

"No. Just can't really sleep."

She just nodded but it didn't seem like she believed me. "Alexandra."

She turned to face me and I almost lost the courage to tell her.

"I wanted you to come with me. Not because this is your home but...I guess the same reason I hugged you when V first told me she wasn't mine. There is a comfort I get only with you. So I needed you with me as much as I needed Blaine."

Alexandra was completely silent. She even seemed to have lost a little color.

"I just thought you should know."

It was like a weight was lifted off my shoulders. I smiled at her before I closed my eyes and threw my head back again. Hopefully this time I can actually sleep.

*****

How do I respond to that? I kept saying he didn't want me there for support and he just proved me wrong. I'm still a little doubtful this isn't a dream.

I stare at him as he casually goes back to sleep like he didn't drop a bomb on me.

'There is a comfort I only get with you.' My burning cheeks let me know that I'm blushing. Thankfully it waited until he wasn't looking to do that.

Hearing those words in my head again set butterflies lose in my stomach. I'm so glad we're going so I can see Cassie. I really need to talk to her after this.

I put on one of the movies that they offered and put on my headphones. I laugh at the movie before I involuntarily stopped breathing.

Looking at my shoulder I see that Mason has leaned his head to lie on my shoulder.

He was sleeping so it didn't really mean anything but it felt like it did. Like we were breaking ground and he was being more open to me.

I smile at him before I begin to breathe naturally again and watch my movie.

*****

Groggily I wake up and look at Alexandra. "Are we landing?"

"We already did." I quickly shoot out of my seat to see that Michelle, Blaine, shit half the plane has already left.

I shake my head to try to wake up a little more before a yawn escaped my mouth.

"I just wanted to let you sleep."

I nod to Alexandra glad she wanted to look out for my wellbeing. She smiled and I smirked right back. This girl is definitely growing on me.

"We gotta go catch up and see Cassie and that lunatic."

"Bet you wouldn't say that to his face." Did she want me to die? I was making a joke. Not trying to sign my own death wish.

She laughed as she sauntered off the plane as if she was victorious. I followed closely behind before wrapping my arm around her waist and lifting her off the ground.

"Ahhh! Mason put me down!" She yelled a little shakily at me.

I put her down and just laugh as she begins to hit my arm with an open hand. I know she wasn't hitting hard, more of a playful gesture.

"So...this creepy guy is here to get us."

We both look in Blaine's direction before I see Alexandra's eyes light up with excitement. "Ghost. I never thought I'd be this happy to see you."

Ghost just scoffed as she walked over to him. "Where is Smiley?"

"Cassie has him doing an assignment and V won't let Boss too far away from Cassie since her party."

Alexandra nodded like it all made sense why the rest of us looked on completely confused. She turned around to address us. "So are we leaving or not?"

Blaine picked up his bag and Harmony's diaper bag before he walked towards them.

"I would much rather be home but you two seemed to think it was a good idea to drag me with you." I didn't even bother to acknowledge him. If he was going to whine and complain, I'll just ignore him.

I grab Harmony's car seat as I follow the rest of the group out of the airport.
