Chapter 1: Who is He?

"Aaaaaaaaaaa!"

Flynn and Kendal reflexively turned their heads towards their friends who were a few meters back. It turned out that the situation was very chaotic. They were running towards the campervan because there were wolves.

Wolves!

"Oh my God!"

Flynn reflexively pulled Kendal to run to the campervan as well. There was no safe place to be right now except in the campervan. So while the wolf was still silent, Flynn still had time to get into the campervan.

Bugh.

Kendal fell down, hurting her knee. Meanwhile, another wolf arrived, now standing next to the first wolf. The two wolves began to walk closer to Flynn.

"Come on, I'll help you. Let's get up." Flynn helped Kendal up. She had to save Kendal because she was responsible for this event. After all, Flynn would feel very guilty when something happened to her friends.

But then Flynn thought, if Flynn and Kendal got into the campervan together, then the two wolves would follow them too and that was very dangerous. So, something had to distract them.

"Kendal, trust me. Run as hard as you can to the campervan. I'll follow you from behind."

"Are you serious?"

"Yes, we don't have time. So hurry up."

Kendal ran straight to the campervan. Meanwhile, Flynn saw that there was a guard post a little further into the forest. So without wasting any more time, Flynn ran towards the guard post.

The two wolves ran after Flynn because now Flynn was their target.

Flynn ignored the pain of the twig piercing her slipper because her current goal was to be free from the wolves' chase.

With all her energy, Flynn finally reached the guard post.

"Shit! It's locked!" Flynn looked back. The wolves were getting closer. Flynn had no choice but to keep running into the forest. She hoped to find another place to take refuge.

Not only that, Flynn also tried to distract them by throwing rocks in the other direction. But that didn't work. The wolves seemed hungry and eager to eat their meal.

"Come on, go away, please. My meat doesn't taste good, so go find another animal!"

Flynn knew she was stupid for trying to talk to the wolves. But miraculously, they stopped chasing Flynn as if they knew what she was saying.

"What is this? Where are they?"

The two wolves were gone. They seemed to have vanished into thin air.

However, Flynn had unfortunately gone too far into the forest. She had no idea where she was and no sense of direction. Her phone had no signal to contact her friends.

"How do I get out of this place!" Flynn wrung her hair in frustration.

And all of a sudden, she felt a gust of wind so strong that it sent chills down her spine.

"What are you doing here?"

"Oh my!" Flynn fell down in shock at the sudden voice. It turned out to be the voice of a man behind Flynn.

"Are you the guard of this camp? Help me, I'm lost and don't know the way back. There were two wolves chasing me earlier. So I think we should both get out of the forest and report this to the police immediately so they can temporarily evaluate this area."

But the man did not respond to Flynn's words. He just stared at Flynn's eyes without blinking.

"Hey!" Flynn waved her hand in front of the man. "Did you hear what I said earlier?"

The hazel-eyed man approached Flynn. He got so close that he cornered Flynn against a tree.

"I think you're too close. Please step back a bit and talk normally." Flynn pushed the man back. She was surprised because this was the first time she had touched another person's body that was so muscular and also so warm. "Are you sick?"

The man finally blinked his eyes and walked backwards.

"Looks like you're not a guard here," Flynn said. "Alright then, I'll find my own way back. Sorry for disturbing you." Flynn thought that the man might be a madman living in this forest. So she chose to leave rather than make trouble with that person.

"Wait."

Flynn stopped her steps. She took a deep breath and smiled, then turned around. "Are you able to talk now?"

The man extended his hand. "I'm Neil Walter."

Flynn did not take the hand. "Yes, Mr. Walter. Can you help me get out of this forest? I want to get back with my friends at the lakeside."

"They're still around," Neil said.

"Who are they? Those wolves? Oh my God, really?" Flynn approached Neil and took cover behind him. "Did you bring a weapon? If not, let's grab one big twig each."

Neil turned around suddenly and made Flynn almost fall. Neil held Flynn's body. "They came because they smelled something. I can sense it too because I'm an Alpha."

"Let go of me." Flynn moved away from Neil again. Now she felt that Neil was really a madman. Alpha? Maybe Neil was just one of those fantasy novel fans like Flynn who was too obsessed to call himself an Alpha.

"I know because I'm not human. I can feel what those wolves feel."

"Stop talking nonsense. And don't follow me, I'll go alone since you won't show me the way out."

But just one step away came a wolf, this time much bigger. The wolf was exactly like the description in the novel Flynn had read.

The wolf's eyes were directed at Flynn and were dark blue in color. It was strange, because Flynn usually saw the eyes of wolves on the internet as brown.

"Don't run. Stay where you are, I'll protect you," said Neil who was now right behind Flynn. Even Flynn could feel his breath.

Flynn's brain was certainly sending danger signals throughout her body. And what she should have done when there was danger approaching was....

"Run!" Flynn pulled Neil's hand to run with her.

Despite not knowing the right direction to get out of this forest, Flynn believed they could still get out and seek help. Running was better than waiting to be attacked by wolves, that's what Flynn thought.

Fortunately, Neil could also run fast enough to keep up with Flynn.

Despite having to take a fairly complicated path, Flynn finally managed to get Neil out of the forest. Unfortunately, the other houses and campervans were all closed. They were probably also scared because of the wild wolves that had arrived.

Only one thing came to Flynn's mind when she saw the lake. "Let's get on the boat and go to the center of the lake."

Flynn pulled Neil to run faster and then started the boat's engine. The boat moved to the center of the lake quickly.

Flynn didn't see the wolf chasing anymore. The wolf disappeared when it reached the edge of the lake. This was Flynn's good fortune because usually wolves can swim, especially at that size.

"I was really confused why the wolves were chasing humans. Usually wolves stay away from humans. Do you think maybe they were starving? But I don't think so, because on the way here, I almost ran into a deer. That means there's still food in the forest. This is unusual."

Neil just kept his head down. He looked at the moon's reflection in the calm water of the lake. He wasn't listening to Flynn because there was more noise in his head.

So from earlier when Flynn started pulling him to run, he didn't listen to Flynn at all.

"Hey, did you hear me?"

Neil slowly raised his head and looked at Flynn. The eyes that had been hazel-colored were now dark blue, similar to the wolf earlier. Neil's gaze was also getting sharper.

"Are you sick? Do you have some kind of allergy? Your eyes are changing color." Flynn was panicked and scared by the change of Neil's eyes. "I don't know what illness you have, but your body temperature is increasing." Flynn looked around her. "Stay calm, I'll take you to the edge. The wolf is gone."

Just as Flynn was about to start the ship's engine again, Neil held her hand.

"Why, are you feeling worse?"

Neil shook his head. He suddenly looked up. Flynn looked up as well.

Right now the sky was very bright because of the full moon. It was a very beautiful sight indeed.

The moonlight hit Flynn's white skin, making it glow. And the moonlight also hit Neil's body.

Neil let go of his hand and that's when Flynn knew the meaning of Neil's words claiming he wasn't human.

Neil transforms in front of Flynn into a huge wolf, bigger than the wolf that was chasing them earlier.

The boat rolled over and Flynn was thrown into the lake. Her body was slowly sinking but she kept her hands up to look for help. Flynn couldn't swim and she was desperate.

Flynn hoped that someone would pull her out of the water and save her from the werewolf.
