Chapter 16 A new Life

"Hi, Got your number from an online website, I'm speaking with Mr. An" Xiomara said turning behind her to check if Yvette and Luca were still standing there but they were already gone. "Yes, Do you need anything," Mr. An asked and Xiomara smiled.

"Of course I do, I would be sending you a name, I want you to run a background check on him, a quiet one," Xiomara said. "It's gonna cost you, and you pay 70% before the project starts and 30% after completion"

"That's not a problem, I would do that, Just send me the account number," Xiomara said and the call ended, a second later, Mr. An sent her the account number to pay in the money, Xiomara did the needful before texting him Lucas Melton's name alongside evidence of payment.

Morning time in Sacramento was different from that of Italy, Xiomara woke up to a thousand missed calls from Delfina, she didn't even budge as she had lots of things on her mind to do.

Walking downstairs she meets Luca and Yvette in the finest suit looking lavishly. They bowed in respect immediately after they saw her. "I love the dress, it looks good on the both of you" Xiomara complimented smiling.

"Thanks, boss" they smiled back at her. "I hope you both went through my yesterday email?, I don't want any mistakes or problems, Focus on the game and inform me before accepting any dinner request or partnership" Xiomara said sitting down.

"Okay, Should I hire a maid to help you around the house," Yvette asked, Xiomara looked around smiling, she could use a maid but it would be risky bringing someone who would know her identity. "Thank you Yvette, but I will pass, you don't have to worry about me, you both can go now and please visit only on invitation okay," She said and they both chorused an 'okay' before leaving.

Xiomara stood up and headed upstairs to get ready for her job. An hour later, she was already driving through the road that lead to the state graveyard, looking around Xiomara noticed how much Sacramento had developed within the last twenty-five years, she smiled recalling Serena's words "Ah, looks like she's right after all" she commented taking the left turn into the graveyard.

She parked carefully at the empty parking slot and alighted, holding two bouquets of flowers and her black bag. She walked majestically towards the graves looking around, hoping to find her parent's tomb, she stopped and sniffed, and she finally found it, Xiomara clenched her first, 'After killing her parents, they had the guts to burry them as a nobody' she tried fighting back the tears cluttered in her eyes.

She looked around only to discover that her parent's graves were the only ones that didn't get to be cemented, it just had mould sand and a stick wood sign which had their name on it. She bent towards dropping the flowers on each grave as tears flowed freely. "Dad Mum, it's me, Ursula," she said with a teary tone "I'm so sorry I couldn't visit earlier, I'm so sorry I didn't attend your funeral, I was scared, Scared to the bones and didn't know what to do" she paused.

"They tried to kill me Daddy, but I lived, I'm alive today and I'm going to make them pay dearly, I'm not going to let them off the hook, never not in this life" Xiomara swore "Don't worry daddy, I'm going to cement your grave and I would make them lay beside you, please look after me as you've always done and lead me to my child," Xiomara said and wiped her tears. She stood up looking around to find her tomb but she didn't see any.

She stared back at her parent's tomb and inhaled deeply, she put on her black shade before walking away, feeling a bit relieved.

At the Morriox conglomerate, the interview room was filled with graduates holding their CVs and looking all beautiful and handsome, they were forty applicants but only thirty-nine were present at the time Morris Fox walked into the room. The applicant all stood up trying to give out the first impression but Morris Fox was too hard to be pleased.

He glared at every one of them without reciprocating their greetings "Why is the room so filled up, I thought I asked they should be filtered at the online screening" Morris sneered at Chris the HR. "We did, but they do have a lot of qualifications and good degrees, we selected forty out of over two hundred applications we received," Chris said, choosing every word right.

"Forty" Morris looked at the attendance booklet in front of him "Why is only thirty-nine present?" he asked. "I think the applicant either lost interest or is late," Chris said not knowing the exact reply to give. "Morriox conglomerate only employs first-class graduates so if you don't have that, kindly walk out," Morris said, his face was stiff and had no emotions.

The numerous murmurs each applicant dropped before leaving made the room a little bit noisy and after a while, they were left with just six applicants. "I can see how well you filtered them" Morris snapped at Chris. "They had a lot of potential and qualification Sir" Chris tried justifying his action but Morris gave him a cold stare which sent chills down his blood. "I'm sorry" he apologized feeling embraced.

"Number them and collect their CV," Morris said and Janet who has been standing there all along quickly moves towards the applicants to avoid getting the hot insult Chris received.

"Applicant 3" Morris called ignoring the first two applicants who were males. "Yes Sir," she said sitting up straight. "Introduce yourself and tell us why you think you are fit for the position of my secretary," Morris said, his head buried in the CV.

"My name is–" the knock on the door interrupted her as everyone looked towards the door, Janet stared at the door and then at Morris as if asking for permission to open it. "Go ahead" Janet walked to the door and unlocked it giving Xiomara access to the room.

The sweet fragrance of her cherry perfume spread across the room immediately she walked in and her smile was a killer, she walked towards Morris and Chris and bowed gently maintaining the smile on her face. "Good Morning Sir, Sorry am late, I was held up in traffic," Xiomara said lightly.

Chris didn't say a word neither did Janet, they both stared at Morris wondering what his next action would be, he hated late coming as he termed it as a poor attitude towards work and has fired a lot of employees on the grounds of late coming, it was like a rule in Morriox conglomerate, once you are recorded late two times you get your first and final warning and on the third, you get fired. Morris stared deeply at her from hair to toe admiring everything about her, from her short bub hair to her silver gown which was tight on her and exposed some of her features to her dazzling smile, everything about her was perfect that Morris didn't know when his lips curved in a smile.

He quickly turned back to his stiff face when he noticed Chris staring at him "Who are you?" he asked sounding a lot of calm which surprised everyone, 'why was he suddenly sounding calm and not rage like he always does" Chris thought looking from Morris to Xiomara.

"I'm Ms. Genesis Dean, I applied for the position of secretary and I passed the online screening," Xiomara said, saying each word with a strong British accent. Morris was silent for a few minutes after Xiomara completed her statement, he stared at her and then at Chris who lowered her eyes immediately to avoid eye contact with him thinking that something was wrong. "You can go sit down" he simply said.

The interview continued and at the end of the day, the two males were screened out on the ground that Morris didn't want a male secretary and then the other six females including Xiomara were asked to go home and wait for the employment later in their email.

Xiomara sat in her car driving to the nearest fancy restaurant to have a quick lunch, she was famished but then her maid was somewhere Morris looked familiar to her but she couldn't place where she had seen him 'Was he a business associate from Italy... No' Xiomara waved it aside, if he was, she would have recognized him right and at the same time, he would have recognized her, she might have changed her face but not her voice, her phone interrupted her and she looked at the screen, it was Delfina again.

"You really abandoned me, mum," Delfina said in a weak voice, Xiomara rolled her eyes driving into the restaurant "I didn't, and can you please stop calling me Miele, I'm here for work and you are disturbing it," Xiomara said but Delfina scoffed "I didn't know I'm now a bother, sorry," Delfina said and ended the calk even before Xiomara could say any other thing. "Oh God!," she stopped her car and ewalleted her hundred thousand euros before calling her. "Spend the money wisely, you won't be getting another till next month and you can't leave the convent, I will talk to the nun to give you a private room... Bye," Xiomara said all at once and ended the call. Delfina smiled happily as she checked her balance to know how much her mum had sent her.

Xiomara alighted from the car, locked her car and walked into the restaurant but then she barged into someone at the entrance, she looked up and was behold a familiar face.
