CHAPTER V
"What are you doing here, Osmond?" I inquired the moment that I'm calmed. "I thought you already went here." The sun has finally set. It's almost dark here.
He smiled weakly, "I will never forget Jake's birthday," he's staring at Jake's grave. "Jake, we all miss you. And I'm sorry because I forgot to take care of Stephanie and your son. Some things just happened in my life. Rest well, dude," he chuckled but without humour.
I bowed my head. I know, I was one of the reason why Osmond's girlfriend left him. If only I could turn back the time, I would.
Silence filled us for awhile. The cold air of the night sent shiver on me. But I don't mind. I love the peace that I have right now. I barely feel this the past years.
"Osmond," I called him. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry for relaying too much on you that time. Because of me. . . She left you," I said with full of regret. "But I promise, if ever she comes back, I'll talk to her."
He shook his head, "You don't need to do that. It was my fault why she left. I should've told her. But I chose to lie," he took a very deep breath. He then held my hand, that shocked me. "If ever she comes back, hopefully, I will never let her go."
"Take your hands off of her or I'll cut your hands," we both looked where the voice came from. "You've been there for almost an hour, Osmond. You can now leave. I can take care of her," Avin said with full of authority.
Osmond removed his hands on top of my hand and stood up. I did the same. Why is he here? After more than a week he came here like nothing happened? The audacity of this doctor.
"Avin," it's Osmond who spoke. "I'm sorry about that. I didn't know that you two have a relationship," he then looked at me with full of curiosity. "I'll go now."
When Osmond's gone, Avin walked near me and wrapped his arm around my waist possessively as he watched Osmond who's walking on the way to his sports car. I heard the possessive doctor beside me sigh in relief. I tried getting out of his hold and luckily, his hold loosen.
"Why the heck are you here? We have nothing to talk about," I furiously said. "Get lost, doctor. You have nothing to do here. Go to the hospital and just do your job there."
"Hmm. . ." he raised his right eyebrow. "You think I'll let you go that easily? I was just away for more than a week but that doesn't mean I have nothing to do with you," his voice was husky. "We didn't talked about what happened to us yet."
"That was just because of lust. We were both horny and drunk," I reasoned out. "You have nothing to do with me. I'm not your obligation. That was just one-night stand."
"Really? I'm not drunk right now, but why am I horny? Can you explain that, Miss?" he grinned.
"Avin. . ." I don't know what to say now. "Let's not talk about that here. Not in front of Jake's grave."
He stared at me for awhile then he kneeled in front of Jake's grave. His full attention was now on the grave. He's looking seriously at it. Like our situation right now depends on where he's looking.
"Jake, I know you love Stephanie but can I please own her? You're dead, you can't protect her. All you can do is to watch her. I promise, Jake, I'll take care of her more than how you took care of her." He stayed silent for a few minutes. "I will help her ease the pain just like what she told me." Then he stood up. "Let's go," he raised his hand in front of me, asking me to hold it.
I put all my courage together before taking his hand. I hope I made the right decision. I glanced at Jake's grave before walking with him.
"Where are we going?" We are now inside his Mazda while he's driving. "Avin."
"Somewhere you can shout all of your pain. I promise this to you, Steph, I'll help you ease the pain. I'll help you open your heart for someone again."
I was just looking outside the window the whole ride with my mind blank. I don't know why but for some reason, I trust him. If wherever he'll gonna bring me, I hope that can really help me. It has been years. My brother was right, Avin was right, too. I'm stuck to my past that's why it's still so painful like it just happened yesterday.
"We're here," I heard him said. He got out of his car first then he opened the door for me. This doctor is a gentleman.
I looked around and this place is familiar. We are in front of a familiar building. What are we doing here?
"Are we going to your penthouse? Avin, you told me we would go somewhere!" I spat angrily. "Why are we here?"
He started walking and followed him unconsciously. "Come on, Steph. We will go to my penthouse. But right now, we'll go at the rooftop." We rode the elevator until we reached the rooftop. I just followed him again.
The rooftop has a swimming pool, but no one's here. It's only us.
"I love you!" I got shocked when suddenly Avin shouted. He looked at me while chuckling. "Shout, Stephanie. Heard what I shouted? That's just a sample so that you know what to do."
I nodded slowly, realizing what we will gonna do here. "So that how it was," I cleared my throat and shouted, too. "I miss you! I wish you're here! I want you back! Why does it hurts so much?! Why can't I move on?!" I breathe heavily as I finished saying those words. I just rested a bit and shouted again. "Thank you for the love you gave me, Jake!"
I feel like I ran out of breath so I closed my eyes to relaxed myself and feel the cold breeze of the night. I didn't know that this will feel good. If only I know, I would've done this before.
I felt like someone was staring at me that's why I stared back at the man beside me. He's looking intently at me. His eyes have those unnamed emotions. I can't read him. But one thing's for sure, there's pain in his eyes as he look at me.
"Why was she inlove with someone else?!" He shouted in the air. It was so loud that I thought his vocal chords would be broke.
"Who, Avin?" I got curious. He stared at me again. My forehead creased but he only shook his head.
