1. Need
Rose stood by the airport sucking in her breath. She stood next to her best friend, Becky, who was trying to keep the tears in. Rose knew she'd miss her friend and Becky her. Now it was becoming a reality for Rose and all it took was her father dying.
She shook her head trying not to let the negative thoughts come back. She had safely tucked them in "her vault, and she wasn't going to let them out so soon.
"Your really leaving Paris for some island?" Becky asked me, still wrapping her head around it. She nodded.
"Yes I am. I'm leaving the wonderful, cloudy City of Love for a sunny, dangerous island. Oh how I'll miss you." She feigned dramatically. Becky couldn't help but giggle.
"Okay, rules."
She stared at her," Rules? What am I your child?"
"Yes you are. So the rules are as followed:
1. Tell me everything that happens. And I mean everything.
2. Tell me any cutie that might be single, so I can fly down there okay."
"You will be thousand of miles away, Beck. If he's so hot then he wouldn't be single plus both of us have boyfriends. Wait...now that I think of it, does Olvido even have wifi?" She thought. The idea of not having wifi did not cross her mind.
"They better have otherwise your not going. Only one of us has a rich boyfriend that can actually fly down." Becky spat back.
Rose hadn't given Jackson a goodbye knowing that if needed he would fly down to Olvido for her. That is how much faith Rose had for her boyfriend and for one more precaution she enlisted Becky to keep an eye on him. She knew just how Jackson got when he had to do business and that worried Rose.
Rose shook her head once more getting rid of all thoughts that were bothering her. She looked down at her outfit that was a black top with a black long sleeve with flowers on, and she matched it off with her black slip on's.
She pursed her lips and brought the one thought into her mind: her mother. For some odd reason for the last ten years, Rose's mom had forbidden her to come to Olvido. Her father was really generous to her mother in that way, explaining that she wasn't a horrible person and that she was just protecting me. It was actually important that her father did that otherwise she would have drawn her own conclusions and Rose would have ended off hating her mother.
Rose's parents had met eighteen years ago. Two years later with their relationship they got married and Rose Gold was born. When Rose turned eight her parents had a divorce which sent young Rose into a frenzy, wondering how this could've happened. Rose never recalled them fighting or anything but she knew as she grew that Rose probably missed the signs. Rose's father was heartbroken and never had a relationship with anyone again. Her mother on the other hand left immediately to an island that only recently Rose learned was called Olvido. Her father never allowed her to visit Olvido always preaching that it was too dangerous, that was before he died and now she had no family besides her mother.
Rose sighed and pulled up her bag. She turned back to Becky and pulled her into a hug. The tears started falling, and she couldn't help but let them fall as well.
"You'll always be my best friend." Rose whispered into Becky's ear.
She let go of her friend and started walking towards her terminal. She slowly passed over her bag to the mean-looking bodyguard. She took her bag and walked through the corridor that led to the plane. Rose turned once more and saw Becky waving and couldn't help but smile. Rose waved back and finally stepped in the plane.
She put her bag in the compartment making sure to keep her wallet on her, to buy food and drinks. She sat next to a window and gazed out of it .
I'm coming Mom.
Rose woke up to the ocean glittering white. She rose her head off the window and stared at the bright rock that lit the night, the moon. The song Happy by Pharrell Williams playing softly in my ears.
She shifted her legs and arms trying to get rid of the pins and needles. She lifted her Coke can hoping to have some left and just Rose's luck there was some left. She sipped the rest and looked out the window to see a huge island, a splash of colour in the blue vastness.
Most would assume the island would be tiny but not this one. Her mother was here somewhere, and Rose couldn't wait to live her life here.
Twenty minutes later.
Rose was collecting her bags by the terminal, her nerves were jumbled. It had been ten years since she's seen her mother. She started wondering if her mother moved on and started a new family. The negative thoughts started piling on, and it became increasingly hard for Rose to shake them away. But eventually she did. She pulled her shoulder bag up and grabbed her huge suitcase. She lumbered with it for a while till Rose remembered that the stupid bag had wheels.
Rose pulled her bag till she was about to exit the terminal. Just before the terminal she caught the scent of rain and for some reason she relaxed. Then she saw her mother... and a young man next to her.
She waved to Rose, her eyes already glazed with tears as she slowly made her way to her mother. Her mind had somehow retrieved all the bad thoughts Rose had put aside. She began to wonder who the young man was. Unfortunately, she had caught up to her mother before she could reach an conclusion.
"Wow!" Her mother said, eyeing her from head to toe," When I saw that you had a bijillion followers on Instagram, I knew you were hot but FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE!"
Rose laughed at her mother's way of meeting her. She knew that the way she reintroduced herself to her mother would open the gateway to how well her life would be here. Now she was grateful that her mother had gotten rid of the awkward vibes. Rose turned her attention to the man.
The man was way younger than she originally thought. He was definitely handsome and seemed to be Rose's age. She had a moment when she envisioned the boy in her school.
"Where are my manners?" Rose's mom brought her hand up, clenching something, before smacking the boy's head. When her hand disappeared, a sticky note was left. It read..
"This is Josef, your..."
"Step Brother"
