Eve POV
Stepping into our large office, my eyes almost popped out of their sockets, as I was welcomed with a weird sight. My colleagues were all looking different, especially the ladies. They all dressed nicely, smelt nice, and added weird makeup to their faces. Ok, what's the celebration today?
Letting out a scoff, I shook my head, before walking over to my seat, and sitting down.
"Good morning Eve." Marian, one of my colleagues, greeted me with a smile on her face. Marian was the only close person I have in the company, she sometimes came over to my place to keep me company, and whenever I felt bored at home, I did go over to her house too.
"Hey, Marian, how're you doing?" I smiled, as I turned on my seat, and faced her, but almost cringed, as I saw her in makeup too. Ok, I'm getting curious already, what the heck is going on here?
"What's the celebration today? I mean, you all are wearing some weird makeup, and some nice clothes too. From the look of things, I could tell that there was something important, so what was it? I don't want to be left out please." I pouted my lips while whining at her.
"Oh, please, Eve don't tell me you don't know what's going on here." She gave me an 'are you serious' look.
For heaven's sake, if I knew what was going on, I wouldn't be asking her this. I shook my head anyway.
"The CEO is said to have willed the company to his son, who is coming over to the company today, and like every other person, I want to look good, who knows, he may just notice me, and make me his Cinderella." She said dreamily while smiling like the fool she was.
What the heck is this world turning into? Just when I thought I had seen it all, then new madness keeps surfacing.
"Oh, I see." I shook my head unbelievably, before turning to my computer, and turning it on.
Geez! I can't believe even she will join this silly competition or whatever they're doing.
The atmosphere suddenly tensed up, as I heard some funny sounds filling the entire office, and I was forced to raise my head to check out where exactly the sounds were coming from but was met with the crazy scene of my life, as my female colleagues kept adjusting their clothes. Like what the heck!
"Can you all please focus, huh? I'm doing some work here, and for the love of God, you're damn disturbing me." I slammed my hands on the desk frustratingly, as I closed my eyes. Can this day be any good? First, it was that idiot from the traffic, and now these annoying colleagues? Oh heaven, please save me, lead me not into frustration!
Someone nudged my arm, and I snapped my eyes open, to yell at whoever it was, to leave me the hell alone, when I was welcomed by Mr. Liam, standing. Thank goodness he was here, I need him to call these fools to order. Can you imagine the nonsense?
"Oh, it's a good thing you're here Mr. Liam, can you please tell these silly workers of yours, to focus on their work, and stop fooling around, huh?" I snapped, as I stood up and turned to face him.
"Eve!" He called sternly and tilted his head to his right side, and that was when I noticed the person standing beside him, what! Jayden! When the hell did he get in here, huh?
"I didn't notice you were standing," I said simply, before going to stand with my colleagues, who were all standing, having dreamy looks on their faces.
He kept staring at me, with an unexplainable expression on his face, for some reason best known to him. Are we here for a staring contest or what? I don't understand.
"Hello, everyone, meet the new CEO, Mr. Jayden Turner, he'll be taking over the company from his dad, and henceforth, will be our CEO." Mr. Liam introduced him.
"You're welcome, Sir." Most of the females kept squeaking in excitement while giving him a seductive look. Imagine nonsense.
I looked at them unbelievably and scoffed angrily.
He kept looking at them, making a straight face. This dude must really be a proud peacock, look at the way he's looking at everyone like he was some important person. I just felt like slapping him.
"A lot of things are messed up here, so I'm going to start all over again, and set up the company, the way I want it to be." He said in a calmed but cold voice, and I couldn't help, but scoffed. Like seriously? Was he being serious right now? Even if he has to show his arrogance, must it be on his first day of being here? He can't even say a word of greetings to anyone, and he's here, saying some shit.
"A screening is going to be done on each staff member, so I'll know who's worthy of staying here, and who's not." He continued while tucking his hands into his pockets.
My stupid colleagues kept drooling at him dreamily like he was some god. Geez! Were they even listening at all?
"Yes Sir." They chorused.
"Good. Now I want you to start by introducing yourselves, and your profession here." He said, before taking his gaze to me. Why is he looking at me now?
They all took turns introducing themselves and being the last person in the row, it finally got to my turn, and I groaned inwardly.
"I'm Evelyn Jones, working as an accountant." I drawled.
Gosh! I don't know why I hate him this much, not that we've had an encounter before, but I can't stop myself from hating the idiot.
He gave me a look, which I can't seem to comprehend, and I couldn't help returning the look to him. He has been giving me this confusing look since he came in like he knew me from somewhere, or something of such, when I've not met him in my life, not even in my dreams, and I don't wish to ever see him in my dreams.
The sound of my ringing phone echoed in the office, and everyone turned their attention to me weirdly, like something unusual just happened.
Ok, why the heck are they all staring at me now? I...
