"What are you doing here?" my hands shaking with uneasiness. His presence here meant I was going to get married or get dragged back to the altar in front of the same people. I couldn't face it twice.
"I came for a business meeting with Sir Jordan, but upon seeing you, I guess I could wait a little longer," he said, sitting right in front of me. I could have called security on him, but that would have only caused much more problems.
"Just so you know, I am not planning to marry someone I am not in love with. Any plan you have for me should drown in the river," I schemed to throw him off the rails. Though he was charming, he wasn't as handsome as Sir Jordan. Though he had the fierce face I always wanted and the smirk that drove me to my knees.
He didn't come close to me, nor did he leave. He just watched me as I kept on ranting about reasons I didn't want to marry him. I couldn't talk about the baby in my womb since it didn't concern him.
"If it's love you want, then I'll give it to you. I'll show you that even billionaires fall in love. I'll show you that I can make you mine with or without my money," he let out, reaching for my hands, which were withdrawing at his touch. Falling in love with him was a flawless dream he believed in.
After much persuasion, I decided to give him an answer the next day. He wanted to show me he could make me fall for him. Not like he could, but I didn't want anything pulling me down, knowing fully well he'd continue his search for me if I escaped.
Jordan's arrival ended our conversation as it went straight into business. Jordan knew from the looks that he was supposed to be my husband, but he didn't pay attention to that, knowing he had a billion-dollar contract to tie up.
"Do you love him?" Jordan threw the question at me, and immediately Avery left. I stood in shock hearing those words from the man who took human lives as just pieces needed to fulfill a purpose. I was supposed to let him in on the Intel; after all, he was the only one there for me after Anna, but I ignored him, taking my bag and leaving for the day. My shift had ended an hour ago, but I had to stalk Avery for Jordan.
My head was messed up; I couldn't think properly. I couldn't escape from Avery because he could easily find me with connections worldwide, but I also couldn't leave Jordan and the company. My heart always skipped a beat whenever I was near him, and I felt fulfilled whenever he held my hand while helping me inside. Maybe I had fallen in love with the hot CEO. I couldn't tell.
I wasn't allowed to take alcohol because of my baby, so the only available drink left for me was a bottle of Coke. I sat down on the sofa with a bottle of Coke in my hand while looking at Anna, who had been on the call with her fiance from China forever. I didn't understand a thing they said, but I knew it was something romantic and giving because her cheeks flushed every single minute. The call lasted up to an hour later, and the bottle of Coke in my hand had diminished. What were they up to?
"Girlfriend, I am getting married." I looked at Anna as the information circulated in my system. "You're getting married?" I inquired, hoping I heard it right. "Yes, I am getting married next Saturday." Anna jumped from the sofa opposite me towards me, embracing me like a child. "I am so happy for you." I joined the celebration of joy.
Anna getting married meant a lot of things. One of them was the fact that I was going to be lonely again since her fiance would be willing to settle down in his homeland and I wouldn't be able to see her again.
Anna was 22 years old, a year younger than me. She was pretty with beautiful curves, without a doubt. She met her Chinese boyfriend two years ago during her stay in a hotel in Taiwan. I am not sure how they met or how she understood his language for them to fall in love, but I understood that love was blind.
"So how did your meeting turn out?" This was my opportunity to ask for advice on what to do from her before she left. "Avery showed up; he said he wanted me to give him a chance to prove his love to me." The explanation wasn't my strong suit, but it was never good enough for Anna.
"Did Jordan say anything about it?".
I couldn't fess up about Jordan to her. It felt betraying to do so. "Jordan was speechless; he didn't think much about it. You know the kind of person he is, don't you?" I lied. Though it was enough to change her mind and stop the topic of Avery and Jordan meeting for business, I couldn't let her know I had feelings for Jordan and would also be taking on Avery's challenge to see if we would fall in love. What had I gotten myself into?
Dinner was steamy and delicious; all meals were specially made. Anna and I talked for hours non-stop. We weren't ready to leave each other and move on with life after the distance between us for so many months. We both sought ideas to meet up once in a while, but that all went down in a jiffy.
I had run out of ideas, and Anna was also left on edge. With no idea, we both decided to part with a grand ceremony, and that's when the billion-dollar question came in.
"Will you come with me to China?".
