Chapter 2

As an Alpha at the top of the pyramid of human hierarchy, my differentiation was not successful. Perhaps it was because my family had a majority of Omegas, but I was not only weak but also petite. What was even more frustrating was that I could not control my pheromones. Essentially, walking down the street meant inadvertently luring Omegas to pounce on me. To avoid becoming a monster who was aroused by everyone at all times, I had to rely on suppressants to live. However, suppressants could only work for a while. Excessive use led to resistance and shortened lifespan. My cousin did not believe this and kept using suppressants, so she passed away before turning thirty.

The solution was actually simple. When the feeling struck, finding someone to sleep with would settle it. However, I was a woman of fidelity and did not want to engage in promiscuity. Thus, during my school days, I accepted the love proposal from my childhood friend, Colin, and mated with him during my first adult heat.

I believed Colin and I were compatible and thought we could live harmoniously together. Little did I know that this seemingly-decent man would end up cheating on me! I kicked the door open and faced a bewildered Colin. "Let's not complicate things. We're breaking up." I slammed the gift box on the table. "Marrying me must have been such a sacrifice for you!"

Colin, eyes wide with disbelief, stammered, "You... You heard everything?"

"To be honest, Colin, if you hadn't relentlessly pursued me back then, I wouldn't have agreed to be with you!" I declared. "And stay out of my sight in the future. I find you repulsive!" Enraged and dizzy, I stormed out, overhearing Colin plaintively cry out, "Thomas, I never intended for our relationship to become like this..."

"I got it, buddy. I have something else to attend to. I'm leaving now," Thomas dismissed him with a few words and quickly caught up to me, grabbing my wrist. "Una, hang on!"

As a prosecutor, Thomas's attire was hardly formal. He was the epitome of a traditional Alpha, handsome, intelligent, and from a distinguished family, with a penchant for fitness so intense that his shirt buttons at the chest seemed ready to burst. I first met Thomas through Colin, and that was when my insecurities about my slender figure began.

I shook off his hand and said coldly, "What now, Mr. Cornish? Was mocking me earlier not enough, and you want to do it in person now?"

Thomas's attractive deep eyes narrowed as he leaned in, his exaggeratedly dyed silver-white hair nearly brushing my face. "Are you really angry?"

"He's with someone else now. I certainly can't encourage him to be with you, can I?" I scoffed and turned to leave, no longer wanting to deal with him.

But Thomas persisted, following me eagerly. "He really went too far, huh? How about we go for a drink tonight? You can say whatever you want about him. I won't tell!"

"Una! Are you listening to me?" At this point, we were already on the crowded street. His striking appearance and enthusiastic behavior were drawing glaring stares, making it unbearable for me. I snapped at him, "Thomas! You better stop..."

Before I could finish, a sudden agitation swept through my body.

Oh no!
