Today was the day Colin and I were to attend our engagement party. After work, I grabbed the engagement ring and hurried to the hotel banquet hall. As I approached the lounge door, I hadn't even knocked when I heard Colin's voice from inside.

"I don't want to marry Una anymore."

I froze, my hand poised in mid-air, ready to knock.

"I'm really tired of her."

It was the first time I had heard Colin speak with such indifference.

"Is it boredom or someone else?" joked Thomas, who was a prosecutor like Colin.

"I heard that our beautiful boss gave you a hotel room card a while ago. Did you go?"

Colin grunted heavily, then asked with a troubled tone, "Mr. Mackenzie and Roy both think I should choose her over Una. What do you think, Thomas?"

There was a sudden silence for a few seconds before Thomas burst into more hearty laughter.

"Indeed, Una can't compare to her!"

"Her family background and looks are nowhere close. I'd break up with Unar too if I were you!"

Colin let Thomas belittle me without saying a word.

Meanwhile, I clutched the ring box so tightly that it pained my palm, and my chest ached in tandem.
