Chapter 3
Alley and I crossed paths and we walked out of our university together. He stretched out both his arms. The wind danced in her long hair. I smiled because she was beautiful, eh.
"Are you alright?" I asked him. I was hugging my new borrowed book from the library earlier and he even joined me. I thought he would also borrow money, but he didn't.
"It's fine," he answered me and smiled.
"Will you be picked up now?"
"Brother Archer will pick me up. Come with us, huh?" When he said I would go with them, they would literally take me to our house. Doing so will only alienate them further.
"Don't. I'm also going to the shop where Dad works now. We'll just go home together," I said.
"Eh, we won't take you there if you're going to Uncle Jasper's," he scolded me. I scratched the back of my neck and shook my head at him one after another.
I still don't want to. It is better for them to go straight home. I can handle myself.
"You'll only be further away, Alley. I can go there by myself. Go ahead, leave first," I said seriously. He just snorted at me and pouted but he just laughed at the end.
"Hey, let's go! Next time you won't be able to refuse me," he promised. I just smiled too.
When we parted ways, we were still kissing and then he finally got into his brother's car. I just said hello to his older brother and even he insisted on taking me. His older brother is smart.
But I went straight home. It's not my habit to lie. So instead of going to the shop and visiting Father Jasper there, I went straight home.
I also did everything so that Aling Sahara wouldn't see me so when I also saw that they had a lot of customers in their pansiteria and they seemed to be very busy, that's when I breathed a sigh of relief. He won't notice me coming home. Maybe they will give me a snack again. I will reject him for now.
When I got home, I immediately changed my uniform. My top is a white plain shirt and my pants are black and blue. I just put my short hair in a ponytail that didn't cover a few of you because it was short.
I went to the kitchen to make coffee when I saw that we were out of sugar.
I thought about going out and grocery shopping. I still have money in my small wallet. I went back to my room and took my black jacket and went out.
The grocery store in our barangay is only walking distance away so I just walked to him.
It's only 5:12 in the afternoon. It is also safe to walk because many people live in our area and there are a few people on the side of the road.
But I wasn't even close to where I was going when I heard a gunshot. In my shock, I even bent down and held my head. My heart beat faster.
"Stop!" I heard the man shout. His voice was very cold and scary.
I looked in front of me and saw a man running towards me. I clutched my chest and was about to leave when he quickly approached my direction.
My eyes widened because his eyes were shining. He was like a tiger ready to eat me whole.
"Step aside!" he yelled at me but I couldn't do it because he bumped into my body and managed to push me. With that strength, I couldn't stop myself from falling to the floor. I dropped my wallet.
I winced because my buttock and my palm immediately hurt. I feel like crying in pain. I have never really stumbled like this. I'm not clumsy.
"Pvtangna! Because it's blocking!" the man cursed and he almost crawled to stand up but he picked up the black purse that fell on the floor and ran away. That's the only time I could breathe properly, maybe because he was angry with me, he would hurt me or step on me.
I raised both my palms to try to stand up but someone pulled my hand and supported me no, he violently stood me up.
I was even startled because it felt like there was a bridge of electricity in his hand and it was transferred to my body. For reasons I don't know. I suddenly got nervous and my heart beat faster.
After putting something cold on both of my wrists. I looked down there and my mouth fell open in shock.
Handcuffs!
"Wait... Why did you put this on me?" I asked hysterically and my eyes quickly watered. He didn't answer me and quickly took my wallet from my hand.
"That's mine!" I yelled but my eyes only followed when he pocketed it in his pants.
I raised my head to look at the one who dared to catch me, I didn't do anything wrong for him to do this to me!
My heart beats faster when I see the handsome face of a man who is very close to me.
He's so handsome... His eyes... they're so cold, it seems like there's a hypnotism in them too, so I can't help but stare at them for a long time. His eyebrows are thick and look like they were drawn. From his eyes, I looked down at his sharp nose and down at his red lips... At his jaw that was constantly tense. I looked down even more at his Adam's apple that was violently rising, moving again and again.
further down--
"Eyes on me," he said coldly but his voice was soft and calm.
His haircut is clean and black in color. He's also white. The smoothness of his cheeks. He's so tall that I don't think I could reach his shoulders... I was only up to his chest.
I swallowed violently and winced because he pulled my hand. That has handcuffs. I didn't even think that my partner would go to jail for this. Not even in my dreams did I see myself as the leader in my current situation!
"Chief Alked. Did you catch the m-thief?" asked a policeman who had just arrived and was still rushing because he was running so fast. Also reach our direction.
Only then did I realize everything. This man is also a policeman, who just casually arrested me when he saw me.
"No. But I caught his accomplice," he said coldly. He didn't really have any emotions and just stared at me. Because of repeatedly pressing his jaw, I could see something stunning on his left cheek. He has a hole...I mean he has a dimple there.
But I remembered my situation. My eyes widened.
"Sir, I'm not an accomplice!" I defend myself. Because how did I become that man's accomplice? I just crashed and I was not an accomplice of the thief earlier!
In all my life I never thought of that thing, to steal. That's not what my father taught me even though I didn't have a mother to guide me either. Father Jasper did not fail to remind me. Stealing is bad and I will never do it!
"Here. She told me that she's the owner of this wallet. This is what your partner stole earlier, Miss," he said and held up the wallet. My chest felt heavy when I saw that it wasn't mine.
I remembered the man earlier. The man they are chasing is probably the thief. Before he left, he picked up a black purse, then he ran away and the man who caught me didn't catch up with him.
Then. me? Will it accuse me of being an accomplice and a thief?
"But I'm not a thief! I'm not with that man...I'm not guilty," I said shaking my head and my tears started to fall. I'm getting scared...
"You know, Miss. You can't buy us from your lines anymore because it's rotten. Too bad, it's beautiful," a policeman said with a smile and I stepped back as he stepped closer to me.
I was horrified by the way he stared. I thought that he would finally be able to approach me when I was immediately pulled by the elbow of the policeman who has not let go of me until now.
"S-Sir... Nothing--" I didn't finish what I was going to say because he immediately interrupted.
"Shut up. Just explain in the prison," he ordered firmly. My shoulder collapsed and I couldn't do anything else. I couldn't protest anymore when he finally put me in the police car and I just quietly started crying.
I was just going to go grocery shopping, but I immediately failed at the precinct! If I can't leave now, my Dad might worry more. That will worry him when he sees that I'm not at home yet but my things are already there and I've changed my uniform.
They did take me to the precinct and two female police officers held me, for which I thanked them because I was a rare person when a man was holding me. I quickly get nervous and scared. The fur on my body is still standing. Even the policeman earlier made me feel like I was going to run out of breath. His presence is very heavy.
Inside the precinct, they questioned me several times and insisted on something that I did not do.
"You know, Miss. Just admit it. Just admit that you are an accomplice of the thieves who have been caught by the law for a long time! Just tell us in which cave you are hiding! Don't wait any longer and can you, stop crying! Let's finish!" the policewoman yelled at me and hit her table with her two palms. I was even more scared because his eyes were shining.
"How many times do I have to tell you that I'm not an accomplice! I don't know anything about what you're saying! I'm just a victim here and you have no right to accuse me without enough evidence!" I shouted and because of the rise in my voice I even caught my breath.
My head is getting hot because of their repeated questions, I always answer the same but why are they stubborn and don't understand my explanations? Why can't they get that?!
"Are you police officers like that? Are you just going to accuse innocent people of a crime they didn't commit? You're just going to make arrests based on what you saw and you still don't understand the situation! Don't you? is it enough for one person to explain? Don't we have the right to speak? And you're just legislators? Because if you're like this...I won't be surprised that you've caught many innocent people..." I said meaningfully. My fear of what was happening to me now disappeared. Because I have been led by annoyance with them.
"You're the police, you know the situation. You know when criminals lie. You're good at prosecuting someone, right?"
