Chapter 4: Ownership

Katherine’s POV

My whole body was in pain ever since I woke up. The memories of last night lingered in my mind. It already happened. Whatever that man’s purpose could no longer be justified. I teared up in frustration. Besides, there was nothing I could do anymore about it. The damage had been done. I sucked in my breath trying to recall what happened.

‘Did we do it?’ I looked around and found my white bed sheets turning scarlet. I couldn’t see my face yet I was certain it turned pale when my mind consecutively gave me unpleasant ideas regarding the reason why blood was all over my bed. Something was off but I couldn’t exactly put a finger on it. I waited for a while until I could finally move my body freely. The cramps were slightly fading and the discomfort on my neck seemed to ease away.

I headed to the bathroom with my trembling legs. There was no way I could hide what I truly feel, I was scared and still am. Good thing, it was Saturday and there was no need for me to report to my class. At least we had to take two days off every week. Even though feeling weak, I managed to take a bath, scrubbing my body as hard as I could hoping to get rid of all traces that man left on my skin. After a good ten minutes of scrubbing and soaping my entire body, I decided to dry myself and get dressed.

Looking at my reflection in the mirror, I realized how messed up I looked. I sighed and fixed the towel wrapped on my hair when all of a sudden, I felt something familiar was approaching. Danger.

An unfamiliar face welcomed me when I opened my eyes. I remembered losing consciousness when I was inside the bathroom in the morning. My guard automatically went up but then I realized I might be still helpless when it comes to people like the man who came the previous night. I stared at the man’s face in front of me. He smiled which made him look more gorgeous. However, I wasn’t into good-looking guys. What I want to know was why he was inside my room at that very moment.

“How’s your sleep?” A guy sitting on my bed next to me with light brown hair asked with his baritone voice. It was pleasant to listen though I was trying to resist falling into whatever trap he laid for me. Also, I didn’t remember going to sleep. I fainted and losing consciousness wasn’t something to be considered as ‘sleeping’.

“What’s with that face? Didn’t you have a sweet dream?” he added. The smile remained on his lips and boy, did I just blushed.

I was aware I should be careful with anyone especially with someone who could get inside my house. Whoever this handsome man, he shouldn’t be barging in through a lady’s room. And somehow, I could confidently say that he wasn’t the guy who barged in through my balcony last night. I looked at him closely trying to familiarize myself with his facial features. Nah, he was good looking and all but he wasn’t the unwanted guest.

“Don’t give me that look,” he said and then laughed. A few seconds later, he forced himself to stop laughing. “I just wanted to check on you. Stop overthinking things,” he added and flicked my forehead.

“Aw,” I groaned when I felt the slight pain penetrating through my skull.

‘Check on me? I don’t even know him. Unless he was that guy from last night… but he wasn’t,’ I paused. Did I already say that something was off with this guy? I wonder if he had something to do with what happened to me the previous night. Even if he had no idea about it, why would he say he was checking on me as if he knew I wasn’t in a good condition which was indeed a fact.

“W-What are you exactly doing here? A-And who are y-you?” I stammered. Gosh! I didn’t want to but words that came out of my mouth were like strings tied together in a tight knot.

He sighed. “I went to see if my property is still okay,” he replied, sounding so serious that he almost made me believe what he said. But what property? Was he claiming that he owned something in the house? As far as I could remember, my foster parents owned everything. They’re a rich couple after all and I doubt they owed anyone with anything.

The stranger went closer and kissed my forehead. He then looked at me earnestly. His actions were only making me confused.

“I need you to be safe, Katherine,” he whispered before disappearing right in front of me. He appeared in a blink and was gone in a wink. A chill ran down my spine as I realized the series of weird encounters I had. As my heartbeat became erratic my mind went blank.

‘I hope it isn’t like what the prophecy says,’ I silently prayed.

Kil's POV

‘She’s fine!’ I breathed a sigh of relief after making sure if she was fine. My heartbeat slowly went back to its normal speed when I saw her laying on her bed. She didn’t look ill or anything at all which made me glad. In case something happened to her, I would blame myself. How I wanted to approach and embrace her in my arms. But before that, I should let Levi and the others know about her. I didn’t intend to cause any problems in the future. What’s more, if I needed something, those guys were the only person I could rely on. I should be honest with them at the very least.

I was about to leave when someone grabbed my arm. I saw a tall and good-looking guy with light brown hair. He was glaring at me as he spoke. “Was it you?” he questioned me. I could tell he was in an awful mood though I don’t give a crap about his feelings so I shook his hand away.

‘Wait… is he also a vampire?’

“Leave her alone,” he continued with his firm and annoying authoritative tone. “She’s my property,” he added before vanishing in thin air.

“She?” I clenched my jaw when I finally understood what he meant. “If your ‘she’ really refers to someone I know… I guess you messed with the wrong person,” I muttered in exasperation.

‘She is mine, only. And what’s mine will never be anyone’s.’
