As she stood in front of the mirror, Heather Salvatore was doing everything possible to prevent herself from having a panic attack. She was extremely nervous and worried that as the next queen of Dark Light Coven, she could do something to ruin the livelihood of everyone.
“Will you relax, you will have your nag of a mother-in-law and the rest of the family to stop you from doing anything you can’t fix.” Queen Ravenna said as she adjusted Heather’s long black dress. She smiled proudly at the fact that tonight they would be handing the throne over to their son Alejandro and his wife Heather.
“I’m sorry, I’m just petrified that I am going to mess this up,” Heather explained in between deep breaths.
Ravenna adjusted her daughter-in-law’s body so that they were facing each other, she walked her through a few breaths and looked at her sternly. “Heather listen to me: Zane, Allison, and I have discussed this. We all agree that you and Alejandro would be just fine taking over. You have been a part of this family since you were born. You can do this; you are an Alpha and one of the most compassionate people I know. Just relax and believe in yourself.”
“Mom, you are freaking out over nothing, you got this! Quit freaking out!”
Heather smiled at the teenager who just got finished scolding her. Looking over at her 18-year-old daughter, she couldn’t help but smile at Violet and how this woman sat where her little girl used to. She is wearing a black floor-length dress with blue strappy heels. Her hair was dyed a dark blue and pulled back into a nice curly-up do. Her makeup was beautifully done; she had a black smoky eyes with dark red lipstick.
The eye shadow showed off her beautiful blue eyes, which also reflected the color purple which was given to her by her Witch side, and little specks of red from her Vampire side. With her mother being a Witch and a wolf, and her father being a Vampire and wolf; Violet was born a Tribrid. She was part Witch, wolf, and Vampire and could actively switch between the three at will.
“Mom stop staring at me, you’re creeping me out,” Violet said with a smile as she pretended to cover her face. A knock on the door interrupted the women’s private moment, and Violet jumped up from her chair, walked to the door, and opened it. She smiled at her Grandmother who was standing there. “MeMaw, how are you?” Violet asked as she wrapped her Grandmother Idina in a tight hug. Violet couldn’t help but be ecstatic that she was able to see her whole family today.
“I’m wonderful Baby, how are you doing? Did you talk to your mother yet about traveling to the Starfall Coven?”
“So you are the one who is putting ideas into Violet’s head about leaving,” Heather asked as she shot a glare towards her mother.
“Violet, can you give me a few minutes with your mother?” Idina asked as she pushed open the door. Violet took the hint, left the room, and shut the door behind her. Idina took a deep breath and looked at her daughter. “I am pushing this issue because she needs to go. Her Tribrid status mixed with her Alpha and royal blood makes her extremely powerful. Tiffany and I can’t train her anymore; she needs to go where she can continue to learn to control her powers. You know I wouldn’t suggest it if I didn’t think she could benefit from it. Her Uncle Angelo and Cousin Brittany are going to the college in Edonia, why can’t she go as well?”
“Why? Because she is a royal Tribrid! Did you forget what her father and aunt went through?” Heather asked as she felt the anger rising in her voice. She didn’t want her daughter going through what Alejandro and Allison went through over their hybrid status. Both were kidnapped and constantly tortured by Hunters to gain personal information about their hybrid healing.
“Heather, as the mother to the two children you were describing, I think I would like to intervene here,” Ravenna said as she stood up, and caused the other two to jump. She was so quiet; they forgot she was even in the room. “The 18 years we searched for Han was heartbreaking and scary, but your Mom and Dad were both there through it all. Your Mother understands what I went through and she went through it herself for the days you were missing. Having said that, we can’t let the fear we established during that time prevent our children from living their lives. Allison is sending Brittany, and I am sending Angelo to Edonia to attend college.” She took a deep breath and paused to give Heather time to register and accept what she said.
“I can make a suggestion if you would like to hear it. She can attend college during the day and Witch training at night. Allow Emma to go with them, I’m sure Gemma and Patrick won’t mind. She has been working with Aiden and Nicolette and is doing extremely well in her bodyguard training.”
“The suggestion is a good one, you can’t let your fear suffocate your child, or she will rebel and do it anyway. Her friends will be gone, and your time will be spent on Nathaniel and this little bean.” Idina followed up. She placed her hand on Heather’s stomach for effect, as she referred to Heather and Han’s other two children.
Heather sat down in the chair defeated, she knew they were right but she knew she wasn’t ready to make a decision. Thankfully, she was saved by the door. She jumped up, ran to the door, and opened it; she was met with the smile of her husband. She quickly pushed him out the door and into the hallway and sent him a grateful smile.
“Your mother is talking about sending Violet to Edonia again isn’t she,” he chuckled.
“She is, and your mother is helping her. You have the most impeccable timing Dear,” she said as she took his hand and they began walking down the hallway.
“One day we will need to make a decision you know, especially considering she wants to attend college. That deadline is approaching quickly,” he pointed out.
“I know, and your mother made a good suggestion, I’ll talk to Patrick and Gemma tonight and see if Emma can go with her as a bodyguard. It would make me feel better to know she would have someone with her. Plus she will have Brittany and Angelo, I just hope we are making the right decision here,” she replied flustered.
Han quickly stopped Heather in her tracks, pulled her to him, and wrapped her in a hug. “I think we are; Tribrids aren’t very accepted here as it is, but a Tribrid that can’t control her powers would certainly be feared. We need to make sure she understands how to make use of all she was born with including her brain. I don’t want her to grow up like I did, wanting to learn everything, but not having the ability to,” Han answered solemnly.
“I know what you mean, I do understand she needs to go, I just am worried something will happen,” she replied.
“I know we all are, but she is an adult now; we need to let her live her life.” Heather skeptically nodded her head; she looked at Han and smiled. She knew he was right and was extremely thankful that the Witch gene only passed to Violet and not Nathan. He took her hand, and they continued to walk down the hallway to the ballroom.
As Heather looked around she couldn’t believe how they had it decorated. There were red and white lights strewn across the ceiling and black tulle in between them. The tables were set up with beautiful black and red rose centerpieces, and the buffet was filled with food for the visiting wolves and humans while the bar was stocked with blood for the Vampires. “Drucilla and Ravenna outdid themselves with this. It is beautiful in here,” Heather said as she looked around the room at the decorations.
“Yes, they did,” Han said as he led her through the room full of guests to where his father and mother were standing.
Smiling at his son, Zane gave them both hugs and pointed to the stage area. “Are you both ready to begin,” he asked. Once they nodded they were, he nodded to Ravenna and they all climbed onto the stage to perform the passing of the crown.
The ceremony went off without a hitch, everyone clapped for their new King and Queen, and everyone understood what they both went through to find each other and to get to this point. Finally, Heather was able to leave the stage and walked around until she found who she was looking for. She approached Patrick and Gemma; they bowed to her in respect. She cringed and shook her head looking flustered. “I’m never going to get used to this whole bowing thing, usually I’m on the bowing end not the receiving end.”
The group all chuckled at her expense; she cleared her throat and started the conversation about potentially sending Emma to college with Violet. As the conversation progressed, she couldn’t help but wonder if she was doing the right thing. Heather knew that this is more for her daughter than her, and she was thrilled when they agreed to allow Emma to attend with her.
Heather decided to sit her family down tomorrow and get things started; she walked around the ball and mingled with the guests. She located and approached the King and Queen of Edonia Michael and Jasmine; she bowed in respect and couldn’t help but admire the numerous kids that were playing close to them. When Jasmine handed her the seven-month-old Princess, Heather could barely contain the anticipation she felt for her third pup to be born. “I need a huge favor from you both; I need to find out who I can contact in Starfall Coven to get my daughter there for training.”
Their eyes widened in shock and Jasmine looked at her and mischievously smiled. “You gave in, did you? Don’t worry I will leave you with contact information and we will look after Violet for you as long as she is in Edonia. She will only have to call if she needs anything from us.” Smiling in pure gratitude, Heather relaxed a bit at her decision and decided to take the time to enjoy the rest of the night.
