Chapter 9

- V I C T O R I A -

11.07.16 // 9:34 a.m.

SUNLIGHT RAYS shoot through the slits in my blinds, the warm light waking me up from my peaceful slumber and embracing me in its arms. I stare around my room aimlessly, stretching in the process. My bones crackle and pop from staying in one position all night and when I finish stretching, I feel loose-limbed and relaxed.

The first thing I notice is that something feels off in the air. It is as if something is hanging around, like a ghost, waiting to be found. It settles in my room, like dew on the flowers in the morning. It makes to hard to breathe.

I swing my legs over my bed and place my feet on the cold, hardwood floor. I pinch the bridge of my nose with my pointer finger and thumb and begin to rub it softly.

What is wrong?

Someone knocks on my door softly, the quiet tap-tap echoes throughout my room.

"Come in," I say and the door swings open, revealing my mom dressed in a pink blouse and a black pencil skirt, looking professional as always. She has a tight expression on her face, showing off a forced smile.

"There is something I need to tell you, Victoria," she says and my stomach begins to quiver. She only calls me Victoria when I am in trouble or if something bad is happening.

Really bad.

"Okay," I whisper, feeling butterflies start to flutter around in my stomach. I run a hand through my tangled hair and stare up at her.

"Blaire has gone missing," she states and my heart drops.

Blaire? My Blaire? Oh no...

"Missing?" I breathe and she nods slowly. "What? I don't understand Mom."

"She went missing last night Vicky. No one knows where she went or who took her. Her mom just called me this morning, it is all over the news," she explains. My knees begin to shake and my palms twitch at my sides.

Panic.

I can feel it, building like an unstoppable snowball in the pit of my stomach. I can no longer concentrate on anything my mom is saying. Her voice is blocked out by the blood pumping in my ears and singing in my veins.

The next thing that happens is negative scenarios of where Blaire could be, but the number one scenario is dead. I start pacing around my room with a finger on my lips. Who would take Blaire and why?

"...Her mom also found a note under her bed. Something about a Rose, it was really weird, I wasn't really listening but-" my mom's voice snaps me back into reality but I cut her off.

"Wait, what? A Rose?" I ask, feeling my heart rate start to pick up and a thin line of sweat starting to form on my forehead.

"Yes, do you know anything about it?" She asks and I am quick to shake my head no. Then the realization hits me full on like a freight train.

Rose...oh no.
