Chapter Two: Potential Mate

I heard yelling and screams of agony from the direction I was running from. I heard rustling in the bushes which had me rushing to get behind a huge oak tree.

" Tell me where she is, you traitor!!" his voice scared me why was he talking to this woman like that?. I popped out my head to see what was happening, he had his hand gripped tightly in the woman's beautiful white hair.

" You tell me where she is now before I kill your beloved mate" he snarled in her face now gripping her by the throat. The woman spat in his face and just laughed like a crazed woman." Kill me" she said staring defiantly in his eyes.

With that said her throat was slit and blood came rushing out. She gurgled trying to breath until her movements stopped. Two men came from the direction of what seemed to be a big fire. One had red hair and the other had blonde hair ."Search the area she couldn't have gotten that far" the man with a scary tattoo on his face which held the lady in his grip said. The other two started searching.

He threw her body to the ground. I don't know why I was crying , why I felt so sad because of the death of this unknown women. All I know is that she meant everything to me. After I felt like they were gone I ran towards her , her eyes were still open but they were dull, void of life. I stared at her for a while until I ran towards the huge fire. I was not prepared for what I saw. Countless of bodies , men ,women even children all on the ground dead. Blood everywhere.

My eyes opened. I was drenched in sweat. I had to remind myself that it was just a dream. I stood up from my soft bed and made my way to my balcony to get some fresh air. Before leaving I looked at the alarm ,5:45am, as usual .

This has been happening since I was four years old. The dreams are always the same. They come to warn me about something. They always do. This day did not feel right .

Today was the day of the ceremony.

This ceremony is held when the current Alpha of the pack hands his title to the future Alpha. But before this ceremony the future Alpha has to challenge the current Alpha which has already been done.

I go back into my room. There were boxes everywhere , my room was practically empty. No pictures or decorations just the pale blue walls and the king sized bed. I was moving out today. My mother disapproved of me living alone but with a whole lot of persuading she accepted that her baby was growing up.

My parents and I look nothing alike. Both my parents have brown hair while I have white hair. It's pretty weird but they assured me that it runs in my mom's side of the family.

I went into my bathroom. I needed a nice warm bath. I drew a hot bath for myself. My muscles relax instantly when I layed down in the warm water. After my bath I wrap a towel around my body while exiting the bathroom. I went into my walk in closet nothing fancy but it was spacious.

I needed something formal to wear. We were welcoming most of the Alphas of different packs that were coming to witness the ceremony. I think that they come because it is a way for them to see if we have any weaknesses. I heard that most of them are coming to see the first ever female being handed the title of Beta to the strongest and most dangerous pack in the world, the Bloodhound Pack.

This made my nerves even worse because a lot of important packs are coming; I had to be on alert at all times.

I put on a white ranlo sweater layered with a greyish jacket and a high waist linen cropped harem pants with my zuka strappy sandles. I hated wearing those death traps called heels. I tied my hair into a high ponytail. After that I looked at myself in the mirror and left my room after making my bed. By the time I was done it was 7 am.

My parents were morning people which was the one thing we had in common.

" Morning Mom and Dad" I said while stealing bacon from the plate. Mom looked at me with a stern look but I just shrugged it off. I sat on the table next to my dad, he was mind linking with someone, I bet the enforcers to see if the Alphas were on their way.

We finished our breakfast and my dad left. " Honey come here for a second we need to talk" she said with a soft loving voice. " I just wanted to say that if you need anything, anything at all don't hesitate to call and we will have dinner at home every Tuesdays and Fridays ok" she said more like demanded. " Fine mom yes ok ,I got to get going" I said and gave her a quick hug and kiss goodbye.

"Dawn please come to my office" Alpha Brandon’s voice boomed through the mind link. "Yes Alpha" I replied and made my way to the pack house. Pack members that did not want to live in the pack house would be given a piece of land where

they can build their own house.

The pack house came into view. It was huge almost like a mansion. I entered the house and went up the stairs. There were a lot of turns until I was at the office door. I had memorized all the corners of this house. I knocked once and heard a come in. I entered and I was greeted by the sight of my father, Xavier and Alpha Brandon that was seated behind his desk.

"Sit down Dawn , we have a lot to discuss" he said in a serious tone. My eyes went to Xavier and he showed no emotion on his face, he didn't even look at me but he knew that I was looking at him. Why was he here? , My eyes went back to the

alpha.

"You are well aware that a ceremony is being held tonight for Xavier and you for the handing over of titles. But things have changed. My son has shared some information with me, that you are his potential mate. Is that true?" He asked looking at me dead in the eyes.

Where was he going with this. "I am not quite certain that I am his potential mate because I have not found my mate but what has that have to do with the ceremony being altered?" I asked with no emotion in my voice. My guard was up. Why did Xavier have to tell his father that we were potential mates, it was just a freaking kiss for goddess sake. I was seething inside but I showed no emotion.

" This changes everything, my son has found a mate which means he has found a Luna for the pack. I have decided that it would be best if you gave up your beta duties to Ragnar the third in command, so that you take the position as Luna next to my son Xavier , as equals. You have not found your mate yet at this age which will be difficult at your end and it is what is best for the pack." I was beyond livid by the words that came out of His mouth, how dare he no how dare Xavier. He knew how important this was to me but I guess his need for a luna is more important than my own ambitions. Dickhead.

I have worked my ass off my entire life for a powerful position and just in a matter of hours I am given a position that I have not earned myself but just given because I am a potential mate.

“Today you are expected to act as the future Luna of the pack and be there for my son." that made me jump out of my seat. I couldn't deny a command from the Alpha it was punishable by death or worse be exiled to be a lone wolf.

I nodded my head, anger seeping out of me in waves. I looked at my father, he had not defended me. I was dismissed, this is how it was going to be. I would no longer hold any real power.

I didn't want to sit with Luna’s and talk about useless topics. I know it is a honour to be Luna but I was not fit to play that role in my pack. I needed more, more than what a Luna position held.

My whole day didn't start off as I had planned. As I walked home, I saw my boxes being loaded onto a truck but I did not know who the wolves were. “Who are you and what are you doing with my boxes" I asked in a dangerously low voice. My anger now directed towards these wolves.

Everyone stayed stilled. They knew that death was upon them
