The Alpha Queen

Move it!!" I roar to the pups that ran past me like birds in the sky, just a couple of weeks ago they went through their first shift.

They were fast learners. The best I have seen even better than the last group I thought to myself. They would make great enforcers.

I started running behind them so that they could pick up their pace. As I barked out another order, I saw Xavier running towards my direction. He was the Alpha's son and we were best friends since we were pups. He had no shirt on that revealed his muscular build and his pants hung low on his hips as he made his way to me. He had midnight black hair and forest green eyes that demanded eye contact.

As you have not already noticed I have the hugest crush on my best friend which is fine because I would never admit it to him. He was there for me, protected me from the hateful eyes of some of the pack members. As I grew up, I eventually got used to the stares; they changed me for the better so that I never let my guard down except when I am with Xavier.

"Hey D, how is training with the shifted pups?" his deep smooth voice asked. "I think they are the best I have trained, they catch on pretty fast" I replied while watching the newly shifted pups train.

I focused my attention on him "How were patrols?" I asked intently

"I actually came here so that we take a run, maybe sweep the area again?" He asked with those puppy dog eyes which he knew I would never say no to.

I just nodded and dismissed the pups since it was almost time for dinner. But when I was done patrolling they would be back at it again.

I went behind a tree to take off my clothes and shifted into my sandy brown wolf. I always wondered why my hair was platinum blonde in human form but not in wolf form.

The first time I shifted had me terrified out of my mind about the difference but now I am used to it. My mom told me that after the shift that it's a rare gift amongst wolves and that I should cherish it.

As I shifted and came out from behind the tree, I saw that Xavier had already shifted into his midnight black wolf.

We started running at the speed that blurred our forms where you could only see the colour of our wolves. He was a bit faster but I kept up with his pace. By the time we were done patrolling we were both out of breath from all the running. We stopped at a stream and shifted back to human form. I had never seen Xavier naked before and neither has he that is why I quickly turned my back and found a tree to put my clothes back on.

He was back in his pants just as before but now his hair was disheveled, like he just woke up. And his abs were on full display.

My father said that it was good for a future Alpha and future beta to form a bond, which was the only way for the pack to stay united.

We sat on a huge rock, looking at the stars. I could feel his eyes on me but I didn't look back. It felt good that he looked at me that way. I always liked this part of my day. Just being able to let my guard down even if it was just for a while. To feel like a normal female in the company of a male. But we could never go beyond that because I was fated to another, a bond that is to be taken seriously.

Anyways no more talking about mates, it makes me sad about the future. I hope he never comes for me because I will have to give up everything that I have worked hard to earn at the age of only nineteen. I know what they say about me, the coldhearted daughter of the Beta. It really is an honour to hold such a title, I guess for me anyways. I stopped caring what people said about me a long time ago.

Lost in my thoughts I had totally forgotten about Xavier. He was talking about pack duty until he set his eyes on me again. They shine with happiness every time he sets his eyes on me. I know that we have formed a bond more than that of an Alpha and Beta but we just didn't acknowledge it because of what happened.

Xavier found his mate at the age of eighteen when he was visiting a pack in the west to strengthen alliances. Her name was Lissa , she was a year older than him. But when he arrived she had already had a family of her own, a human family to be more specific. You see, she had to plan visits to her pack every once in a while so that her wolf would not die which would be the end of her too. Xavier confronted her and asked why she couldn't just leave her family to start a new one with him. She apparently responded by saying that she was not meant to lead a pack, that she just wanted to be normal. He didn't say anything other than that when he broke down in my arms.

It has been a rough two years on his part but he has overcome the rejection although it still lingers. I see it when he stares at mates a little too longer than expected.

This past couple of months has been trying to sniff out a potential mate before he becomes an Alpha. It has been difficult since most of the females have not been rejected or lost their mates. He can still take over as Alpha without a mate but it is tradition to have a mate. It shows that you are committed to the pack.

He moved closer so that our faces were so close that I could smell his mint breathe. I wonder how it would feel like if we were mates. Would I feel the spark that mates say they feel? We looked at each other for a while. His thumb caressed my cheek until his hand moved to my neck. A shiver ran down my spine "X what are you doing?" I whispered out of breath. This is the first time I have ever been this intimate with him. "Shhhh just trust me ok" he replied. My wolf was uneasy so I pushed her away so that I could try something that is not right for my own selfish needs.

He sniffed my hair, my neck until he came to a stop at my lips. A gasp left my mouth as he bit my under lip asking for permission. I took his soft black hair in my hands and showed him where I wanted his feather-like kisses. A moan escaped my mouth which urged him on. The bond that we share as Beta and Alpha is no more. He has found his potential mate. I can't believe this is happening. I feel his mouth on mine asking for entrance. He devours me, we are lost in each other and for the first time I feel like a female wanted by a male. We break apart, mingling of our breathes and harsh inhaling of air is heard in the silence of the night. I let what happen settle in.

My eyes are closed but I still felt him nipping at any skin that was visible, leaving his mark. I live in the moment, for months we ignored the tension between us but now we live in it. "Let's go back, we have a long day tomorrow" his voice was thick laced with desire.

We stood up and ran back to the pack house in human form. All the while my thoughts went wild with where this was going to lead. This changes everything. I feel guilt settle in my body for doing the unforgivable to my unknown mate. I had to stay away for both of our sake.
