Aspen's POV
I stared over at Giovanni who wasn't letting go of the folder. Not that I expected him to do so ever so willingly, but what was he driving at now? I knew what this was even before I agreed to enter this contract with him as his mob attorney.
“Just hand it over already.” I rolled my eyes and he finally let the folder go. Pulling out the content of the papers, they were lists of a few documents with recent dealings of the Scars family. They had enough details with locations of every warehouse for their dealings.
I lifted my gaze to look at him, his gaze hadn't shifted from me the entire time. “Why do this much?” I raised a brow questioningly because there was no way he would invest this much just because he wanted me to be there in his faction.
“I'm asking myself the same. It's not like I'm worried if they get cleared or not since even without the evidence, you have no choice but to work with me.” he said. His words made me tilt my head again. Of course I was the one who stepped on his toes first and he's still indirectly doing me a favor.
“So what do you want?” I asked, placing the folder on the table before us and for a moment, I thought I saw a wild smirk on his face.
“You know it's a dangerous question to ask me what I want. I want a lot of things. One of them is to clear this table off and pin you to it, making you scream my name in pleasure. Just to see why you're intriguing of course.”
I stared blankly at him as he said this. I felt like a pit appeared in my stomach and I got a fluttering feeling but my strong will didn't make it last long. “So you basically want to have sex with me.” I leaned back in my chair, my arms folded across my chest. His confidence didn't surprise me one bit but I only was more irritated.
“I wouldn't go all the way but if you suggest we do, I won't mind one bit.”
“Well, then you would be waiting a very long time for it to even be initiated,” I said, trying to act as unimpressed as possible. “I'm here to be your attorney and nothing else. My work in future should be able to cover up for this favor.”
Giovanni chuckled, leaning forward, his fingers tapping against the table, just inches from the folder I had placed between us. “I am not a man to shift my rewards to the future, Aspen. You have to pay it back now, with your life or– body.” he let the last word hang in the air between us, his voice low and cozy like we weren't just discussing evidence to bring down the Scars minutes ago.
I inhaled slowly, trying to maintain my calm. “If you're expecting a reaction, sorry to disappoint but, your way would have to be broken with me.”
He was quiet, just kept on looking at me. I couldn't tell what was on his mind but one thing was for sure, and that was the fact that I was lucky to go free without being taken advantage of by him during our first meeting. Oh, I would have blamed myself till eternity if that was to happen.
Giovanni suddenly smiled, a dark glint in his eyes. “Then I'll have to come up with new ways to take you to bed.”
I stood up abruptly, the chair scraping against the floor. “This conversation is over. I'll look over the documents and do what I have to do. Only then will I start working for you.”
I turned, walking towards the door, but I could feel his gaze boring into me. If gazes could kill, I would be dead by now. Even if I have no choice but to work under him now, I have to do it to get away from Kai's clutches if I can.
I stepped out of the taxi as it pulled up in front of my apartment building. I just had to initiate whatever I wanted to and I had the necessary connections to do that. All I needed was the evidence.
“Aspen.” I paused in my tracks, looking up at the entrance to my apartment to see Kai standing there, his arms folded across his chest. What was his deal coming to me?
“Why are you here? Kai I don't want to see you, I have nothing to do with the Scars again so why are you on my neck?” I snapped, finally having enough of this shit. This was the last straw and no matter what was holding me back to bring them down in the first place just fueled my anger.
Before he could say anything, his phone started to buzz. Not shifting his gaze from me, he answered his call. “Speak.”
His expression suddenly turned dark as he snapped the phone off his ear. “What have you done, Aspen?” I could see the anger in his eyes as he approached me, but I took steps back for my safety.
“What are you talking about?” I asked, not sure what he was talking about or why he was mad but if it was something strong enough to make Kai mad, he must be livid.
“If you try anything funny with me Aspen, I'll make sure you regret it.” He threatened before storming past me, calling someone over the phone.
The elevator doors closed and the breath I didn't realize I was holding in exhaled. What was with these mafia people and their auras?
My attention was drawn from my thoughts down to my phone which suddenly buzzed. It was a message.
“That's just to make things easier.” The message read with a picture. I could see a couple of cops arresting some men and from the tattoos the men had, I knew what they were right away.
The Scars.
