Sebastian stared at the woman and studied her movements. She was confident and brave enough! He couldn’t see any signs on her facial expressions that she was scared even if Caden Lockwood confirmed his identity. The woman continued to eat her food as if he was not around, and he was greatly pissed at her behaviour. When he glanced at the Mayor of Stonewick, the man was too afraid to talk.
“Who is she?” Sebastian asked Caden but Caden took a long time before he acknowledged the inquiry. Even so, Caden Lockwood seemed to be hiding something from him. “Lockwood? Did you hear me?”
“Lockwood? You dared to call him with his last name?” She joined in the conversation.
“Am I not allowed to do that?” Sebastian responded to the woman but when he tried to stare into her eyes, he couldn’t get through her defence. Ordinary human beings would be easily controlled, just like Caden Lockwood.
“I am saying that you shouldn’t be disrespectful to my father, sir.”
“Did I say something disrespectful, Lockwood?” Sebastian asked Caden instead of responding directly to the woman’s question who just exposed herself as the daughter of Caden Lockwood.
“Of course not, milord! Scarlet, pay your respect to the head of Carpe Nortem,” Caden ordered but the woman defied his order as usual. He could only shake his head in disbelief when Scarlet dared to raise her eyebrows towards Sebastian Kensington. “Scarlet?”
For a moment, Scarlet was confused about how to show her respect to someone such as Sebastian Kensington who dared to smirk while occasionally glancing in her direction. Instead of saying something that would probably irk her father, she stood up and went to get a plate for him. A minute later, she returned with a plate and an extra cutleries for him.
“What are you doing?” Caden Lockwood inquired in confusion.
“Welcome to our humble home, Mr Kensington. Come and join us for breakfast,” she said while smiling at the man who was too stunned to speak and just glared at her.
“Scarlet!” Caden reprimanded his daughter for being impertinent in front of his guest.
“Did I do something wrong, Daddy? I just offered him to join us for breakfast!” She insisted on being right in offering him a plate.
“He’s a vampire for Pete's sake!” Caden shouted.
‘No, he’s not,” she refused to believe his father. How someone who looked so damn fine could be a vampire? “You’re lying,” she said to her father, but at the same time, she glanced occasionally at Sebastian Kensington who was so calm in his seat. She wanted to provoke him a little more, to make him lose his self-control. That way, he would show his true form and colour, but as she glanced at him, Sebastian seemed to be not listening at all.
“The eggs are not well done,” Sebastian complained while staring at the plate with a sunny side up eggs. Then, he turned his attention to Lockwood’s daughter, and asked, “Can you get me something else, darling?”
“You heard the man, Scarlet,” Caden Lockwood said after taking a deep breath. “I would like to apologize for her behaviour, milord.”
“No worries, Lockwood. I like her. She’s feisty,” Sebastian declared but as soon as he saw Lockwood’s facial expression, he wanted to laugh. The Mayor of Stonewick was worried as hell that he would harm Scarlet. “She’s safe with me.”
“Safe? How can you say that when you killed almost everyone recently? No, please spare my daughter,” he begged.
“It’s too late for that, don’t you think? Hmmm so how long did you hide her from me?”
Caden Lockwood’s eyes widened in disbelief upon realizing that Sebastian doubted his claims of just being reunited with Scarlet. “I didn’t hide her from you, milord! She suddenly showed up in Stonewick and claimed to be my daughter!”
“I know. It happened in the city hall, right?”
“Y-yes!”
“It happened several weeks ago, and I waited for your visit, Lockwood. So, what happened?”
“She’s my daughter,” he reasoned out.
“And?”
“I can’t give her to you,” Caden Lockwood stated a fact.
“I understand your compassion towards the woman Lockwood but we already agreed on this matter,” Sebastian reminded Lockwood about the agreement that they had made at the mansion.
“Oh God, please spare her, milord!”
“Don’t worry, Lockwood. As I have said, she’s going to be safe with me,” Sebastian repeated his promise to assure Lockwood about the safety of his daughter, but Lockwood was suspicious and didn’t want to believe him.
“No one is going to be safe with you!”
“Are you sure? I didn’t kill anyone yet. I just tasted their blood, and they’re still alive,” Sebastian informed Lockwood.
“Alive but no freedom to go out. They are your prisoners, and only God knows until when they would stay alive!”
“As long as they won’t do anything stupid, then they will be fine,” Sebastian assured Lockwood. He was about to explain some more but Scarlet already joined them with a new plate full of well-done sunny side up eggs.
“Do you have a watermelon? Or cherries?” Sebastian talked to Scarlet when she placed the plate in front of him.
“I am not your servant, sir.”
“You will be,” he declared and the woman gasped for air in total surprise. Initially, he thought she would let it slide, but the darn woman suddenly smacked the table, causing Lockwood to curse. He was dumbfounded at her action and glared at the woman.
“You can glare all you want but I will never become your servant, you dirty son of a bitch!”
Did she just call him a son of a bitch? Sebastian gaped his mouth open but he was too stunned to speak. When he glanced at Lockwood, the mayor just shrugged off his shoulders. Then, he gritted his teeth at the disrespectful claim toward his mother. “My mother is not a bitch, wench! She’s a queen!”
“Whatever,” Scarlet said and rolled her eyes at him before sitting down to resume her meal. “Hmmm, delicious,” she murmured while chewing a slice of bacon insider mouth.
“This will not do, Lockwood. Your daughter needs a lesson,” Sebastian stated, and before everyone could react, he was already standing so close to her neck, and ready to take a bite. The woman stood frozen and she became speechless, and he smirked in response. Then, he smelled the flawless skin of her neck and inhaled it first. “I’ll take her.”
