Chapter 6

MYLES

A year has already passed and I'm already in junior high school. My current parents made sure they registered my names under them and I'm sure almost everyone around me have already forgotten that I'm adopted.

My father Mr Zachary still works in a security while my mother madam Susan has a grocery store just around here which is now fully stocked. She no longer hawks provisions at the bus stop in town. Father made it possible for her to be near home by renting and stocking the store for her.

Since I came here, we've never lacked anything. Our school fees is always paid on time, food is in plenty, everything is available and I'm just thankful to the moon goddess for being with me all through.

I once overheard mother chatting with her friend telling her that I'm a blessing to them in disguise since they've been able to provide literally everything to my sisters and I..

I'm also experiencing the joy of having siblings. Back in the Pack house, I used to be all alone, surrounded by guards and I only had to play at the backyard of our house with either the maidens or guards. Sometimes dad or mum would take me to the mall for shopping and we'd also have weekend drives.

I can't deny the fact that I miss all those treats but I've already gotten used to my current life. I don't have any choice, do I? Besides, I get literally everything I need. The clothes may not be as fancy as the ones I used to wear as a prince but I've never walked naked. I have good clothes for average kids, better than many kids can afford in this neighbourhood!

Bruce told me that my uncle stopped looking for me and he heard him saying that it seems I was devoured by wild animals. He's living out of the people's sweat, making most of them slaves and killing those who default his rules.

Bruce told me that he had good plans for me and he was going to tell me immediately I turned sixteen, something I've been looking forward to since I'll be in my last year in high school, all thanks to my current parents who took me to grade six instead of five!

I've never told anyone the truth about myself. I had to stick with the original lie and it's obvious everyone believed me and stuck with that little information I made them believe was the truth.

The moon goddess has been appearing to me from time to time, encouraging me to stay calm since she has a better plan for me, something which keeps me going. I won't lie that I've already forgotten about my parents...not at all! I still have fresh memories of them and I'm not throwing those memories away any time soon.

Alpha Diego and Luna Anna were the best parents and leaders one would ever ask for. They ruled in favour of no one, except for dad's brother Cedric whom he loved with everything that he had. He couldn't let anyone talk ill about his brother and that kind of ignorance cost my father his life, leaving me a total orphan. If only he had listened to mum, they'd still be alive and we'd be happy together as before!

Oh goddess, why did you let my parents leave that early? I wish you could have let my father bid goodbye to me!

I wipe a lone tear from my eyes when I hear someone clearing his throat behind me. I'm just from school and I'm in my room, busy doing homework. I look up only to be met by my father Zachary who's looking down at me curiously, wondering why I'm crying. Oh boy, my book is already a mess, soaked with tears!

“Why are you crying dear, what has happened to you?” he asks as he sits next to me on my bed which I'm using as the seat. His eyes are laced with concern.

“I am okay father.” I lie smoothly. Oh no! I'm not a a liar but see what uncle Cedric has turned me into? A pathetic liar who never blinks his eye when telling a lie! You will pay for this Cedric, trust me, one day you will!

“But you're crying son. Your tears have even soaked your book. Please be free with me and tell me everything. Did anyone bully you at school? Did anyone say something bad to you?”

I shake my head indicating that nothing of such sort had happened. I inform him that I've been separately trying to remember my origin but nothing is working. I'm unable to recall anything!

“You know what son, you don't need to remember anything. We're always here for you and we love you more than you can imagine. It'll do you a lot of good if you forget that for once and concentrate on your studies. Maybe, one day everything will come flooding back into your mind and you'll be able to remember your family and where you came from.”

I wish he knows what's going on in my mind. Murderous thoughts are crisscrossing my mind and I just wish I was old enough, I'd have done something to Cedric and his family, something he'll never forget in his entire life.

“It's okay dad. I'll be fine.” I reply, assuring him that I will try and be strong.

“Okay then, I'll leave you to finish your homework. Make sure you join us at the dining table a few minutes from now.” he instructs and I nod.

After closing the door behind him, I release the breathe I've been holding and let out a sigh. I'm just wondering for how long I'll keep lying...will I be able to keep everything away from them for long? What if I decide to leave, will they release me? What will I tell them when that time comes? Oh goddess, please guide me all through!

I'm unable to concentrate on my homework therefore I stand up and after closing the books, I walk outside towards the living room where a great aroma is coming from.

Everyone else is at the living room ready to serve their food. They were only eating for me to show up.

“Brother Myles,” Crystal calls me after making myself comfortable on the couch. “I want you to help me with my homework after dinner.”

“It's okay dear, I will help you out.” I assure her.

Mother serves our food and we all eat to our fill. One thing I love about the human nature and culture is that they always pray before eating. They have their own God whom they give their prayers to and trust me, they're quite religious!

After dinner, Crystal takes her school bag and follows me to my bedroom. Ever since I showed up in their home, mother showed me to Crystal's bedroom and that's where I've been sleeping all through. Crystal has her own bed inside her parents' bedroom which she shares with Laura and she's comfortable with that.

“Are you serious right now Cree?” I ask her. That's how I fondly address her. She haven't done even a little bit of her homework and that means only one thing, she's growing lazy since I've been helping her with it all through.

“I was watching Barbie in the TV.” she replies, grinning cheekily. She's only eight years old but she's quite cheeky.

“But you know we're not supposed to sit and watch anything before we're done with our homework?” I ask, cocking my brows. She's not serious at all!

“I'm sorry brother, I won't do that again!” she promises.

“If you do, I'll report you to mum.”

“I won't, I promise.”

She removes her books from the bag and lays them on the table.

“We need to start since I'm not yet done with my homework.” I tell her and she sits beside me on bed then peruses through English book.

We start with her homework and I guide her as I tackle mine. She has three subjects to handle and she concentrates on hers, guiding her where possible.

Mum keeps on checking up on her, wondering why she's not yet done and I'm forced to inform her that she didn't do her homework earlier since she was busy watching television.

Mother warns her never to repeat such again and then urges her to finish up fast so as to sleep since tomorrow is on a Thursday and we're needed to get to school early as usual!

Crystal is done with her homework about thirty minutes after I'm done with mine. I had to sit with her and guide her all through since if I didn't help her out, she'd have gone to school with unfinished homework.

She pecks my cheeks lovingly and then packs her books then picks them and runs to the living room.

After she's gone, I lie on my bed and the thoughts about my dad and mum starts flowing back into my mind. Those have been the thoughts governing my mind day in day out and I don't know what I'll ever do to keep them out of my mind.

However much I shove then at the back of my head, they just can't stop finding their way back into my mind!

“Don't be troubled my son, everything will fall into place.” the ever gorgeous woman says as she sits on my bed. That's the same spot she has been sitting ever since she started visiting me at this home.

Sometimes she has my mum's face, other times she has another face.

“How, when?” I ask her in confusion. “I just want to grow up fast and deal with Cedric and his mate!” I lament.

“Don't worry about anything dear, I'll help you when you come of age. But for now, just study, go to school, play and live like any normal human.”

“How will I be able to tell them how I am? Remember the lies I used so as to live here. I'm afraid they might never forgive me for lying to them!”

“You worry too much dear boy...you worry too much! Just relax, okay?” she urges me. “Nothing is too hard for me, besides, you're a prince, a soon to be Alpha and if I don't guide you, who will?”

I nod in understanding. I just hope I won't sell myself out sooner than expected.

“I'd like to ask one thing from you Myles. Please stop thinking too much about your past and focus on your future. The future ahead of you is bright and if you don't focus to make it remain bright, then it's upon you!”

“I'm sorry ma'am, but I can't just stop thinking about my parents. They left me when I needed them the most. If only dad listened to mum and the people who used to tell him about Cedric's conspiracy!”

“There's no need to regret my son. Just focus on your future, okay?”

“Okay ma'am. Thank you for everything. You're so kind!”

“I'm always kind to anyone who believes in me. You're one of them!”

“Myles, who are you taking to?” I hear my father asking from outside my door. I instantly panic, wondering how he heard me. The moon goddess waves be goodbye and disappears into thin air while I pull my duvet over and pretend that I'm snoring, deep in sleep.

I hear him pushing my door and he lets himself in. He switches on the lights and when he discovers that I'm snoring, he switches them off and leaves, probably assuming that I'm sleep talking! Oops! That was so close!
