CHAPTER SEVEN

"Hello Fiona, how are you doing?"The voice sounded a bit familiar to Fiona but she was not sure who it was because the number was not saved on her phone and she had been a bit distracted "I'm fine " she responded easily. "What's going on you couldn't make it to work?" Immediately she knew who it was. It was her boss from the coffee shop. In an upbeat voice, as though somebody had just jolted her back to life she replied "I'm so sorry Sir, I should have called you but, I've had a rough day and I need a few days, please I'll be back in few days" "is everything alright Fiona?

" He asked sounding very concerned but she didn't want to bother him "Talk to me Fiona", he insisted "The baby, the baby is gone " She started to sob then, she thought she was over it after leaving the hospital but everytime she spoke about it, it made her cry. "I'm so sorry Fiona dear, do you need me to come help you with anything, child " he had let go of the professionalism he expected and gave out to her. "Thank you so much, I appreciate it, I really do but I just want to be by myself right now " he wanted to ask about Miguel but maybe it was too sudden so he let it go. "Alright, I guess I'll have to become the Charming cashier now eh? Too bad I'm not a lady with nice hair, you know, " he sounded friendly and he was trying to tease her. She laughed "No you're not but I'll be back to help you". "Alright, take good care of yourself, my dear, I'll give you a call Chao". He hung up and Fiona lay down and tried to relax. Somewhere in her head, she had hoped it was Miguel, that he would somehow get an incline that something was wrong with her or something had gone wrong with his child but apparently, he didn't want to be that connected or attached to her. She lay in bed trying to push out the thoughts of how the day had been as she slept off.

Fiona Reece had slept for a long time, it was six thirty in the evening when she woke up. She had not stopped bleeding from the miscarriage so she got out of bed and took a shower and she was feeling much better. She heard a knock on the door, "Who is it ?", "It's Antonio", she tried to recall who that was when it hit her. "Mrs. Valera's son " she got to the door "please do come on in". She offered him a chair so he could sit. "How are you doing?", he asked with care and concern in his voice. Antonio was a guy in his late twenties, he came across as calm and caring, just like his mother, he had done well for himself and had been able to make enough money for him to be comfortable and take care of his mother. "Much better thank you", Fiona replied "You know my mom told me about what happened, I can only imagine how that must have felt, losing a child, my girlfriend had the same thing happen to her and she was devastated, it was a very bad time, but it passes" he sounded wise talking to her. He had mentioned a girlfriend and so Fiona didn't have a reason to keep her guard up, she thought maybe he was just being nice. "Well I do hope I get over it quick, I wouldn't want to sulk all day and whatnot". He smiled, his smile seemed reassuring and his eyes had some type of comfort she hadn't experienced in a while "It'll get better" he replied. Antonio didn't want to pry too much into Fiona's life but as he sat there speaking to her, he thought she was beautiful and in some ways lacking help and stability. He had thought the baby's father would be here by now but there was no sign of him at least none that he could see. "You know you could go out sometime and get your mind off things" he suggested "Not immediately but soon" "Yeah that sounds like a great idea but I have a job that I have to get back to in a few days, going out isn't part of my schedule", "it'll do you some good, you know what, I can take you" "really, you'll take me?, What would your girlfriend say about you trying to get a woman who just lost her baby out of the house instead of mourning hmm", "I think she'll approve, I mean no harm in trying " he was just being playful and easy about the conversation. He got up to leave and he said "Do think about it and let me know when next I visit" he didn't seem like he was joking, he sounded like all she had to do was say the word and it would happen. "Alright, I'll let you know", she walked him to the door "Thank you

" she whispered as he left and she closed the door behind him. It felt good to have someone show some form of care for her, especially at this moment. She had not known Mrs Valera or Antonio for a long time but their kindness had touched her heart and she was grateful for it. Once again, her thoughts drifted to Miguel, she wondered what was happening and why he had not called as she stared at the phone " I know I said I needed time but some type of care would be nice" she said as she spoke to herself. As she thought about the day Miguel left, her thoughts were interrupted by her phone. She picked up her phone and saw that it was Miguel Pharrell...

"Isn't too late for this now?" She said as she watched the phone ring.
