Chapter 3

Alpha

She sat to hear my voice, I went in and bent down to look into her eyes.

— Came to make sure that I did not escape? — Always proud, she was undoubtedly the most celebrated prisoner I ever had.

— Of that I have no doubt, beautiful, you are only a human and dust under my shoes. — Nor with my harsh words, she fell.

— If you think you’re better than us, I feel sorry for what you are and all the humans you’ve turned into monsters like you! — I read the name on your necklace, Eugenia. I got upholding her tight and pressed her body against the cold wall of that prison, my fangs came out, and my eyes turned yellow. I felt her fear increase and her heart race in a matter of seconds, so fragile, so beautiful.

Her smell was soft as that of the flowers of the field. I saw his pulse bleed, I had injured his fragile skin, even though that was not my intention. I tore a strip of fabric from my tunic and tied it to her wound, she looked at me with an expression that mixed fear and doubt.

— Kneel and beg me for Lilith’s place, and I will make you one of my females.

— I would rather die than be one of his slaves! — Eugenia cried out in revolt. I smile.

— Do you deny the privilege I am giving you? You would be the only human in my bed for many, many years.

— Being his mistress is not a privilege but a condemnation to any woman, whether she is alive or a creature.

— Since you prefer my dark side over pleasure, you will have it! — I left the cell and had it locked again. — Keep her without food, until she stops being so proud!

I went to my room, there were countless females with which I could relieve all my hatred in the form of pleasure. But none of them left me like that young brunette, skin as white as snow and eyes greener than the most beautiful vines in the forest. Why did you refuse to be with me? Your life is in my hands as well as that entire village of stupid mortals, just give a small order for it to cease to exist. Yet it challenges me and refuses to be mine, it feeds my instincts, making me want more and more.

Eugenia

I think about how my parents will be, I fear for Thor and his desire to rescue me from this place. I hope that all my sacrifices can manage to leave my people safe, he is a monster, and I am very afraid...but I will learn to be strong. My mother always says that somehow every human being is special and takes within himself everything he needs to overcome, I need to resist for all of us. I got up and heard a whisper in the next cell.

— Who’s there? — I asked, scared.

— Someone with whom it is useless to talk. — I feel alone, how long you’ve been in this place. — She didn’t want to say, but I insisted.

— So many years I can’t even remember.

— And what did he do to arrest you? — I sighed — Did you refuse to lie with him too?

— I don’t want to tell you about it, it’s a sad story.

— Are you human like me? — Her voice sounded strange.

— No, does that change anything for you?

— It doesn’t matter, we can at least talk, and then we won’t be so alone.

— I heard everything Alpha said to you, do not try to measure forces with him, the master never loses and if he chose you, will do everything to make it his. Even decimate the people you love! I got down sitting on the floor of the cell, I could see her silhouette through the dark of the bars.

— I’m cold. — And, really, that night was especially cold.

— The good thing about not being human is to stop feeling such sensations. I heard the sound of a rat being torn apart.

— What did you do? — I asked she.

— I only guaranteed dinner every day and if you want to beat your tormentor, you must do the same as me! Would I become someone like her? Was I facing my destiny in a short time?

Eugenia

I was huddled in the corner waiting anxiously until the sun rose once more, looked around and could now see better all that had been hidden by the darkness of the night. I crawled away when I saw that woman without clothes, with a cadaveric appearance and huge claws.

— Don’t be afraid, even if I wanted to hurt you, I couldn’t go behind those goddamn bars.

— You are not like them, at least not equal physically! — I said, already feeling a little calmer with your presence.

— I was a werewolf in the past, but I stopped feeding on humans when the full moon fell. Without the taste of the meat we are in the middle, I am not a wolf or people like you.

— Decided not to kill more people? — I asked, curious.

— They arrested me here for another reason, and I could no longer eat with them every sacrifice that comes from your village.

— But you’re not bad, since I was little I can feel these things. I think I can see people’s hearts, and yours is noble! What’s your name?

— Jane and yours? — She questioned me getting closer to the prison fence.

— I am Eugenia, the youngest daughter of Elizabeth and Anthony. — I saw through the shadow a shy smile form on the face of that creature.

— I’ve heard of you, your village and the way you protect yourselves from us, Alpha always says that we should not enter into agreements and alliances with your race because they are treacherous.

— There we give our lives for each other, and here for my family and willing to everything, so that no one else is sacrificed.

— We need blood, and if they don’t give it away, Alpha and his followers will take it for granted.

— This pact is not and never was fair, why do we have to surrender to death? Since we share the same world, why can’t we coexist in peace? — I always exalted myself by talking about the cowardice of this world that gave everything to them and nothing to us mortals.

— That’s peace, as long as they give him what he wants. — She smiled ironically, wanted me to agree to give myself to him in exchange for peace, but I can not, can not!

— No! No more Jane.

I got up and got close to the railing again, looked around us for a way out.

— I will get you out of here as soon as I can, and it will help me make this world different from what it is today. — She smiled at me and along with her laugh, a non-human sound that echoed through every cell.

— I like your confidence and courage girl, I would like to believe that you are able to do everything you want.

— You will see that yes! — I answered with confidence, I do not know from where I draw the strength to believe it, nor the courage to fight something much more powerful than me.
