Chapter 5- The drug syndicate

*Maya's POV*

The car I was in drove into a mighty compound after the limousine. The car parked well in the car garage and I opened the car door and came out of the car.

"Wow" I exclaimed as I looked around me. This house was mighty, it was the biggest house I have ever seen in my life. Not only was it big, it was also very beautiful. It speaks of money.

The house was surrounded by lots of guards, masculine looking guards and they each held guns in their hands.

"Boss" they all chorused and bowed their heads when the man that had spoken to me earlier on from the car came out of the car.

He nodded at them and walked towards me.

"Shall we?" He asked.

"Shall we what?" I blurted out foolishly.

I should be afraid seeing that this place was heavily guarded. I mean why so many guards?

I should be afraid seeing that I was with a total stranger in an unknown place. The ride to this strange place had taken almost four hours. The sun was fully out now. But I wasn't afraid, instead I was anxious.

"Shall we go in?" He asked. I nodded and he led me into the main house while I followed sheepishly. Two of his guards walked beside him, one opened the main door and we walked in.

I stopped on my tracks, I couldn't believe what I was seeing. This is paradise on earth.

How could a house be this big and beautiful? My mouth was opened in shock.

"Come on, Don't keep the boss waiting," a bodyguard said, causing me to come back to my senses.

The boss smiled wryly and kept on moving. The house has so many rooms, we climbed the stairs and kept walking, we kept on passing through different rooms,till we got to a room.

It was a room at the last end of the never ending passage. A room one really couldn't notice.

A guard opened the door and we went in.

The room was set up in an office way. A mighty table stood in the center of the room. On it was a laptop and several files. There was an office chair beside the table.

The boss walked over to the table and sat. Then I saw him bring out a cigarette from his breast pocket. He took a lighter from the table and lit the cigarette. He took the first puff, the foul smell of cigarettes filled the air.

I choked. I hated the smell of cigarettes, it always made me nauseous.

The room was dark, and it felt stuffy. There was a window that wasn't open so fresh air could come in and the curtains were draped over the window preventing the sunlight from coming in. Then just like every other part of the house, the room was cold.

The boss lazily took puffs from his cigarettes while me and his bodyguards remained standing.

"What's your name?" He asked.

"Maya," I replied.

"Maya who?" The boss asked.

"Maya Swadys," I replied.

"How old are you?" He asked, then took another puff from the cigarette.

"Twenty," I replied.

He sized me up and down as if to make sure I was telling the truth about my age.

"Not bad. You look bigger than your age" he said.

"You look smart, you're pretty and judging from the fact that you followed a stranger to an unknown place, I must commend you, you're really brave," he said.

"Just exactly what I needed for the job," he added.

"What job?" I asked.

"You said you wanted a world where you can have as much power and money as you want. Do you still want that world, your mind?" He asked me.

I hesitated before I replied.

"No. I haven't changed my mind"

"Good then," he said, smiling.

"Do you have a family?" He asked.

Mom, Mia!

I haven't thought of them on my way here!

"Not anymore" I replied.

"What do you mean by that?" He asked.

"I ran away from my family" I replied abruptly.

"Alright then" he said.

"Welcome to the syndicate" he said, standing up from his chair and disposing of the used cigarette into a trash bin opposite his chair.

"The what?" I was shocked. I couldn't believe my ears. What have I gotten myself into?

"The syndicate," he replied.

"But before you become a member of the syndicate, you have to marry me," he added.

"Marry you??" I blurted out in shock as I stared widely at him.
