Lemonades

Chapter 3

When I got home; I saw mom drawing out some weird designs at the door; she turn her head back to fill in the brush she use with paint bucket, and she sees me strangely staring at the door.

"Baby how was school today?" She fills in her brush with the reddish color of paint and began doing the same thing I caught her doing not long ago.

"Mom! What are you doing? Don't tell me you want to go into home designing, and you want to start with our apartment!" I teased her, but at the same time I was also serious about it.

Mom stop dropping paint at the door, and turn back to me, she held in her laughter but then again brought out another brush, after moving over to the other paint bucket, “Help me baby, and besides, I am doing this for our safety," she said and again started to paint.

"But why are you doing this! You're definitely not making our apartment look friendly," I drop the paint brush on the ground; I went ahead, already facing the door, Immediately I met the door back to Its normal look; not even a grain of paint is seen.

"Okay! What the fuck; is it magic?" I spoke with a question.

Mom laughs, she grabs my hand and we both walk away from the door, we stand at the gate and from there, I saw strange makings at the door. That’s!” I say but did not know how to finish my statement; that is when mom helped me out!

"That's the called an enchantment mark, it forbids werewolves or anything supernatural to come Into an apartment without being invited," Mom walk back to the door.

"But I thought it only works on vampires?"

I say, and we both walk inside the apartment.

"Not really baby, but the paint was forged to stop any supernatural beings from getting in, without being invited,” Mom says, she later asks me to take in the remaining paint bucket to the store room at the back of the house.

I carry the bucket in; I drop the brush next to it.

On my way leaving, my hands accidentally push off a photo we covered years ago; Dad's photo to be precise. At the photo, he is with a friend.

A man whom mom and I have never really gotten to see and the man didn’t even attend Dad's burial ceremony, that's why mom carried the photo as well as dad's things, and she locks it in the store room.

The only thing she allowed in was the wedding photos and the time I was born;the version of myself, and mom always adores it till today. She calls me the light that chases darkness away…

Most times, I find it strange, like it is a clue or something, but at the end nothing out of the ordinary appear to happen.

Sabrina; that name once belonged to my late grandma, I did not quite get to meet her, even my grandfather, but I only hear stories about Dad’s parents, even Mom's parent's too.

I look at the photo again, and I see Dad smiling with his friend, they both have a beer in their hands.

The man is wearing a shirt that reads; Alpha Ian, Mom says he was Dad's best friend. When I walk back into the apartment and reminded her of the picture she once throws away.
