Candy had to leave for home; after spending literally hours talking to me, I moved towards the kitchen next to the window that is opposite our neighbors backyard, I see the man taking a walk with his grandchild, I turn and I open my window, I look clearly at him, I even smile too; it is definitely cute to have someone who will take care of you in old age, the same way I thought I'd do for my mom, I didn’t know she may or may not be having an affair with my principal.
I close back the curtain and walk inside the kitchen.
While I was preparing to make something for mom and me at dinner, I hear her car drive in.
I left everything and went outside to meet her; mom carries down the groceries she bought; after she must have gone to see Mr. Daniel, she turns meeting me standing by the door.
"Sabrina, don't just stand there, help me!"
Mom hand over one of the bags to me, I carried the bag away and walk back into the house, I begin to bring out the things bought from the store and I put them inside the fridge, while doing that, mom walk in, gracefully smiling like she had just won the fucking lottery, or worse, did Mr. Daniel propose marriage to her?...
"Tell me mom, where have you been,?".
I turned to her, after getting the last item into the fridge; Mom turn away her head, she walk to the store room by the kitchen door, there we normally keep things we are yet to need…
"Baby, I went to the store, why do you ask?"
Mom turns her head back to me after talking.
I laughed.
"You just lied to me, didn't you,?"
I saw her nose was busy twitching.
"No baby, I'm not and tell me also," she walk to the kitchen counter, I turned looking as she grab the last bag and put it on top of the table.
"Do you perhaps want to tell me something, or better yet, did I do something wrong?"
She brought out the broccoli, and other vegetables from the bag; putting them into their different containers.
"No really mom, but you're quite bit dressed for a grocery shopping that's why I asked,"
I look at her outfit again; mom eyes too fell on her dress and she turns away and began laughing.
"Baby! Don't mind me okay, I felt dressing up today;" she folded the bag and left me at the kitchen alone to also prepare dinner by myself.
I don’t think mom is willing to tell me the truth; did she not go to see Mr. Daniel, or am I over thinking this again?
I switched on the gas and began cooking dinner; I brought out the veggies mom bought from the store, I put them into a huge bowl with water in it and I watch them after sprinkling of salt; mom says, salt kills the germs that might have lingered on the veggies while at the market.
