Chapter 4

RAVEN

Everything began to feel off as the whole world blurred in the background while I wept like I hadn't wept in 13 years.

I could still remember the crackling of bones, the howls, the tears and the battle cry on that fateful night of my birthday as a rival pack launched attack on our pack.

My mother was one of the strong Gamma's and she led her section and was killed in the war front. I saw my brother been clawed right in front of me and the next time I woke up, I was told...that...he...was...dead.

I was lied to!

"Raven just go with the flow if you want to leave." Karl said and I couldn't help but squint my eyes in astonishment.

"I'll explain after all these, just do your best to get out of here. You surely don't want to stay here." He whispered and I nodded pushing that past me.

"You're trying to say that if I don't do exactly how y'all want, if I don't act like a dumb ass bitch that has no brains then I don't get to leave this place," I asked staring at them in bewilderment, "And I was thinking home was hell, here is the furnace central." I muttered and the elders sighed.

Yeah, they sighed and they did it so I could hear it out clear.

"Do you perhaps have any memories that would lead you to this place?" The spokesman of the elders asked.

"I've never been here before. I don't know what this place is of why I'm still here. I thought this wasn't going to be so hard, but now its complicated." I said obviously tired of the whole thing but only Karl understood that my last statement was based on the fact that I saw him still standing when everyone thought he was six feet below.

As I stared out the window, I realized that the evening moon and stars were already settling in. Even if they all come to their senses and let me go now, there is no way i'd be able to make it back in time.

And I kept wondering, were my step parents looking for me?

Was the entire palace in chaos that they've lost a member? Or was my presence unnoticed as before? Did no one think of me?

Yeah, right! And Martins.

Was he worried sick that he hadn't heard from his girlfriend? Heck, we were supposed to meet up today and he would be in a state of panic considering the fact that I never bailed out on any of our meetings before.

This is all cringe! But most importantly, now I wasn't so sure that I want to leave as I locked eyes with Karl.

I turned to notice that for a while, none of the elders had questioned and I didn't know if i was supposed to take that as a good sign but the minute the room became hot and the atmosphere became stale.

I knew that something wasn't right. Soon, the wolf of almost all male standing peeked up and their fangs and claws became visible.

They began growling and approaching me that fear enveloped me while the females in the room looked as astonished as ever.

I began taking few steps backward wondering what route would lead me to escape but I couldn't find any. Tears trickled down my eyes as my back eventually hit the wall.

What's going on? Why are they all looking like they would devour me at any time?

Just then, I saw flashes that made my head ache and I blinked to be sure where the light had come from but couldn't find see any source of illumination that would be so bright.

It was the sane kind of light that had shone on me when I was in the dungeon.

As I shut my eyes again, I saw a little girl with eyes as blue as mine and hair dark and long as mine and she was with a book. I tried peering into the book as she muttered and then I saw what she was reading.

"I control the wind with the blood of men." I muttered reading her lips but not because I wanted to, I couldn't just stop myself.

The next instant I was reopening my eyes, all the wolves who had been looking at me like I was a meal were now staring at me with surprise and bliss. Why did they have to scare me like that?

"Where did you learn that?" The Alpha— Alpha Claw questioned as he approached the podium with his eyes fixated on mine.

"Where did I learn what?" I articulated.

"That spell. The one you just read now." He questioned with a look of curiosity.

"No! I didnt cast any spell." I enunciated and I caught Eleanor rolling her eyes.

"There's no point in arguing with you Missy." Alpha Claw said and dismissed the meeting with no say on what would become of me or if I'd be leaving or staying.

It was just unaddressed. I was taking back to the dungeon and that was the worst experience ever.

I always woke up to a blinding light only to open my eyes and it won't be there any longer.

And at night, I heard different echoes. Dark eerie voices calling out to me in different names.

"Raven"

"Honey-pearl"

They called till I detested night fall because I knew it would be another night of terror, another night of fear, another night I hated. Worst of all, Karl my so called brother hadn't even come to see me.

I was in the dungeon one day when I could swear that I heard sword clinging which wasn't training. It sounded like a war or something.

Soon to confirm my fears, the door to my cell creaked open and Alpha Claw came into view.

He came forward and hurriedly unlocked the chains that held me bound.

"Run along." He said grabbing my hands and I wasn't given any choice other than to obey.We got a door and he unlocked it.

"Stay in there and don't open it or come out, no matter what you hear." He ordered and I nodded in the affirmative.

"What's going on?" I managed to ask before he does away.

"Its nothing that can't be handle." He answered and ran off as I locked the door from inside.

The howls, the Screams of wolfs dying almost sounded familiar to the voices that visited me at night.I couldn't stand the suspense knowing that people might be dying down there and I was just here. Weak and hiding.

I caught sight of the window and decided to peek but as I made to the window, a rasp knocking on the door stopped me in my tracks.

Fear coursed through my bones as I shivered on the spot.

"Raven, open the door." Martins voice came and I stared at the door in surprise.

Martin? What was he doing here? And how did he manage to get an army? I didn't know why but I hesitated for a second before opening the door.

"Martins." I called and fell into his arms as fresh tears streamed down my eyes.

"Raven, Oh my Goodness...I've missed you so much." He said hugging me tightly like his whole life depended on me.

We ran downstairs and was about heading out of the pack when the guards of Green Oak surrounded every exit.

"No one is leaving here today." Alpha Claw bellowed as he stood at the front porch of the palace with both hands in his pocket casually like there wasn't a blood bath going on.
