Chapter 4.

I hadn't heard that ringtone for three years, and I answered the call eagerly. "Mira, I'm coming back to the country."

The moment I heard that familiar and gentle voice, my eyes involuntarily reddened. "Why haven't you contacted me over the past three years?" I asked, feigning indifference.

The person on the other end of the line paused and replied, "Mira, when I return, I will explain everything to you in person."

Just then, someone gently knocked on the door, and the person on the phone chuckled, "It seems my gift has arrived. I've asked your parents for your address. The gift has arrived before me. Can you feel my sincerity in apologizing, my dear Mira?"

"No!" I replied irritably as I opened the door to find the delivery person holding a box.

It felt like there were several books inside as I took the box.

Carson Strauss's deep voice came through the phone, sounding as if it could melt my heart. "These are the letters I've written to you over the years, all 1095 of them. There's also a surprise."

I opened the box, which was packed with letters. I tore open the one on top.

“To my future wife Mira...”

"Who’s your wife?"

"I mean it. You are indeed my only future wife. It has to be you, and only you."

My heart fluttered as I flipped through each letter, all beginning with “To my wife Mira”, the words filled with longing for a loved one, unmistakably in that familiar, irreplaceable handwriting.

As I sifted through the letters, a velvet box printed with my name fell out.

Opening it, a pink diamond ring lay quietly at the center of the box.

I reached for it without hesitation, but it was too large for me, barely staying on my fingers. Was it a man's ring?

Though Carson was far away, he seemed to sense my confusion and spoke with a hint of a smile, "My plane lands the day after tomorrow at 11:00 A.M. The woman's ring is with me, hoping its owner will come to retrieve her ring on time."

His cheery tone lingered.

"Alright, then I suppose I'll reluctantly accept that ring," I responded with a laugh.

The day after tomorrow was truly a good day, a day to deal with all the troubles.

Just as I hung up, ready to read Carson's handwritten letters, another call came in.

Seeing it was from Carter, I answered with a sense of anticipation for drama, not yet speaking, when an impatient, slightly aggressive voice came through. "Are you not coming back, Mira? Haven’t you done throwing a tantrum?"

Tantrum? I was baffled.

Carter seemed to realize his tone was too harsh and softened his voice, "Mira, stop it, will you? Come back to me. You can't just stay in that seedy hotel forever, can you?"

Hotel? I looked around at my mere 600 square meter villa and nodded in agreement.

Then I thought of Carter's mere 200 square meter flat.

I couldn't help but click my tongue, only for the person on the other end to explode. "Mira, since you wanted to break up with me, I'll let you have your way! I'd like to see how you live without me!"

"We shall see," I scoffed and hung up.

Less than five minutes later, Hazel posted an update.
