Trevor didn't love me.
He loved the money my family possessed.
Rumors swirled around us shortly after we got married.
Trevor's company shares had dropped several points.
At that time, Trevor was unusually obedient.
To squeeze more money from my family, he willingly moved into my house.
We shared a bed without the ambiance lights on.
He turned his back to me, and I rested my hand on his back.
After all the help I had given him, it was time I took a bite.
I quietly took a small bite first.
Unexpectedly, Trevor swiftly turned around and pushed me aside.
My head struck the nightstand.
It hurt, swelling into a bump.
I couldn't see Trevor's eyes.
But I could still feel his naked disgust.
However, soon, he adopted a pitiful look.
"Sorry, Melanie... This is my first time. I was a bit nervous, so I overreacted," he said, drawing closer to me.
His eyes were filled with restraint and reluctance.
I pushed him away.
The desire to eat temporarily left me, leaving me disheartened.
"If you're not willing, then maybe next time," I said during a particularly busy period.
My company needed me to resolve some issues.
I worked overtime until past two in the morning every day to maximize company profits.
Fortunately, vampires didn't need to worry about their health.
I noticed Trevor was siphoning small amounts of money from my company.
Over time, it added up to a significant amount.
Trevor's company gradually began to recover.
He was in a particularly good mood those days.
He hinted that I should claim my reward.
But I was not in the mood, brushing it off as work-related banter.
"Melanie, after this, we're even," Trevor stated.
I looked up, surprised.
Excitement sparkled in Trevor's eyes.
"I'm not in the mood right now," I told him.
Trevor frowned in frustration.
"Don't use that to hold me back, Melanie. This is just a business marriage."
"Is it only you who doesn't know what everyone else is saying? I'll tell you. I'm destined never to like you." I ignored him.
He seemed to become infuriated by my response.
He grabbed my laptop and threw it at the carpet near the door.
The laptop collided with the carpet, emitting a dull thud.
"Trevor, have you lost your mind?" I exclaimed.
"If you want to work, then go to the guest room. The computer screen is too bright. It disturbs my rest."
I took a deep breath, reminding myself not to get angry with my food.
I went to the living room and finally finished the revisions, ready to return to sleep. I reached for the bedroom doorknob.
Only then did I realize that the bedroom door was locked from the inside.
That night, I slept on the sofa.
I didn’t have a blanket, and I couldn't find the switch for the air conditioning remote.
I wondered if I had left it in the bedroom.
The next day, I caught a cold.
Even millennia-old vampires could catch colds.
Trevor's demeanor softened somewhat after knowing I was ill, and he made me some soup.
"Vegetable soup isn't nutritious," I commented.
"Come on, Melanie. Just eat a little."
I didn't bother to argue further.
"You can't lock the bedroom door when I'm in the guest room," I said. Otherwise, how could I sneak my meals?
I was exhausted from work the previous days, but at least I had something warm to eat.
Yesterday, I was locked out, and now there was not a drop of blood in my stomach.
"Then you need to be good. I was only scaring you yesterday. They all say you love me, but how am I worthy of you now? I just got a bit emotional," he said.
Trevor's intentions were clear.
He wanted me to help develop his company.
He wanted to tame me, hurting me while simultaneously cajoling me, or rather, to further control me.
In the future, what was his would be his, and what was mine would also be his.
But it didn't matter, I would suck more of his blood and make up for it.
