Chapter 5

Luke seemed to notice the difference in me and he turned his head to look at me.

Not a word was said. I got used to it a long time ago.

I let out a long sigh, spitting to myself as usual.

"Hey, if I fail math on this monthly test, my mom will really kill me!"

My voice was filled with hopelessness, and I couldn't help but shiver at the thought of my mom.

Just vaguely, I thought I saw him smile.

But it soon fell into place and I wondered if I was wrong again?

It's really easy to get misty-eyed lately ......

I thought Luke would remain silent, as usual.

Instead, he broke the ice and spoke, "I can fill you in."

That tone is calmer than a math teacher saying that the collinear theorem is that the sum of the squares of the two right sides of a right triangle equals the square of the hypotenuse.

I froze, hardly believing my ears.

By the time I responded, I was filled with no curiosity at all as to why he had suddenly picked up on my conversation.

Nor do I care why he wants to tutor me on a whim.

The first order of business was to hold on to the school bully's leg and just make sure I passed my monthly math test!

After all, any gossip dissolves into nothingness under the pressure of my mom.

It was from that day on that Luke really started tutoring me.

Not only did he patiently organize my notes for me, but he also explained to me after school the math topics that were giving me a headache.

Who understands, he lectures like he's as sweet as my babysitter!!!!

I couldn't help but be slightly touched, so that the reigning retentionist bigot also had such a side.

And his explanations are always so well organized, with every step of the process meticulously explained.

Much more interesting than what the old guy with the math was saying.

Gradually I began to understand concepts that had once confused me, and my math grades improved a little.

At the moment I am truly grateful to my homeroom teacher for moving me to Luke.

It was like that day by day until one day in class I was surprised to see Luke gawking!
