My new family

Rhea’s POV

“Yes, I do” I found myself speaking against my will.

“By the power of the moon goddess. I pronounce you Alpha and wife” the priest announced.

The moment that man leaned forward to kiss me. I almost fainted, because he took my breath away.

By that, I mean his breath stinks so badly that I almost fainted because of it.

I managed to turn my right cheek, as his horrible lips landed on it. I heard an angry growl escape his throat as he glared at me.

I just wanted the ground to open up and swallow me at that point.

I felt dirty, I felt ashamed, and beyond all, I was disappointed in myself.

After the ceremony was complete, I was escorted out of the wedding hall.

Unlike other Lunas who had an after-party for their wedding, I didn't have that right since I am his fifth wife. Not like I wanted one, but it showed me how irrelevant I had become.

We drove straight to the Lucifer mansion, which was three times the size of our packhouse.

“Welcome, my queen,” a guard greeted me as I stepped out of the car.

I looked around, as the maids hassled around to put everything in order.

A maid with ebony hair walked up to me, and replaced my white veil with a purple veil, before I walked into the packhouse.

I had heard of this tradition, but never believed it.

The newly wedded bride would have her white veil removed, and it would be replaced with a purple one before she stepped foot into the Royal household. It signified her leaving her plain life and stepping into royalty.

By the time I got to the entrance of the door, a small bowl of rice and a tray of red liquid sat at the entrance of the door. I assumed the liquid to be crushed red roses, or so the story goes.

I kicked the pot, stepping on the rice, before I placed my foot on the tray and walked gracefully inside the house. This ritual signified my entrance bringing prosperity into the household.

The purple veil covered my face, and only my husband had the right to unveil me because he had made me a queen.

I lifted my head and saw my worst nightmare standing in front of me.

It was the stranger; my one-night stand had a phone over his ear as he walked past me.

I tried my best not to stare, but I couldn't help but turn back around to look at him.

What is he doing here?

My feet suddenly became weak, and my hands trembled.

“Calm down Rhea, he doesn't know that it's you. He can't see your face” I murmured.

I tried to take another step forward but I slipped in the process. I fell back and was about to crash to the ground when my one-night stands caught me. A gust of wind came from nowhere and blew the purple veil away from my head.

My eyes locked with his, and he brushed some strands of my hair behind my ear.

I could hear my heart pounding against my chest when I saw the shock on his face.

He helped me get back on my feet and walked away without saying a word to me.

“Are you okay my queen?” A maid asked as she covered my face with the veil.

I let out a chuckle, hearing her refer to me as queen. The title of Luna was preserved for the first wife only. And I was the fifth, merely a nobody.

Is there any point in putting on the veil when another man has seen my face already? But what is he doing here?

“Yes,” I nodded.

The maid assisted me to my room. It was beautiful, but I was too worried to soak in its features.

“Wait” I called the maid just as she was about to leave the room.

“Yes, My queen?” She bowed before me.

“What's your name?” I asked her.

“Alysia,” she replied.

I took a deep breath, contemplating how I would throw the question I had in mind.

“Who is that man? The one who caught me when I was about to fall"I asked her.

“Prince Kayden,” she replied.

“Prince? As in, he is the Alpha King's son?” I panicked, sweat gathering on my forehead and my blood pressure shooting.

“Yes, ” she replied.

“Tell me about him.” Curiosity took over me.

“He is the second son of the king, born of his second wife. He is always referred to as the prodigal son, because of the way the Alpha King treats him. No one dares to go near him, and he never enjoys the company of anyone else either.” she replied, lowering her head.

“It's okay. You can leave now.” I told her.

I began to pace back and forth in the room. What if he tells everyone about what happened between us?

Oh, Moon Goddess, please save me from this shame. How could I have slept with my Husband's Son? My own stepson.

I took a glance at the clock and noticed that it was half past 9 pm, and the King was yet to arrive. I was running out of patience already.

“He is not coming” I heard a dry voice, and I turned around.

My eyes met with a pair of ocean-blue eyes.

My heart sank to my stomach, and I felt a lump in my throat.

“How…” I stammered.

“Your room is so open, “ Kayden responded.

“You shouldn't be here” I stuttered.

“Neither should you! How cheap could you be?” He lifted an eyebrow at me.

“I don't understand,” I pretended.

He took my wrist and forcefully pinned me against the door. He pressed his palm over my mouth and leaned forward, his lips brushing against my ear.

“If you dare say a word to anybody. You will not imagine what I would do to you” he threatened, with my chest flaring up.

“I wouldn't even dare to put my life in such risk” I uttered in my head.

“Good,” he released me, and pushed me out of the way.

“You should eat something. He isn't coming, at least not today” he advised and motioned to leave the room.

What have I gotten myself into? If I knew that he was the Alpha King's son then I would never have slept with him in the first place. Why did I even go to that stupid club?

In the midst of my thoughts, my stomach grumbled, and I decided to take his advice.

I walked out of the room, with the veil still on my head.

By the time I got to the dining room, only one person was eating. I assumed her to be one of the King’s wives because of her attire and the way the maids flocked around her.

“Good evening,” I greeted, not wanting to be rude, although I expected no response.

“Evening” she sighed, digging her fork into her meal.

“Can I join you?” I asked.

“He left you on your wedding night, didn't he?” She smiled.

I lowered my head, unable to utter another word.

“He did the same to me. By the way my name is Larina, I am his third wife” she introduced herself.

“I am….” I wanted to speak.

“Rhea, I attended your wedding. I know your name” she told me.

She got up from her seat and poured a glass of champagne for me.

“To your marriage!” She raised a toast.

I smiled, clicking against her glass, before

While I raised the glass against my lips, I could see a figure at the doorway. Kayden glared at me, making me shiver.

And again, I ceased to breathe. Why on earth was he walking towards me?

Larina’s smile quickly faded, when her gaze fell on him. She took a step back, her stare dartung between Kayden and I.

In a swift motion, Kayden knocked the glass from my hand, the wine splashing to the floor before I could have a sip.

“You devil!” Larina cursed outwardly, and clamped her palm against her mouth almost immediately.
