I could still hear the thumping of a thousand feet on our staircase and decking. Fidgety, I endeared to put myself together not to be swerved about by what just happened to my parents.
Oh my God! I can’t believe what just happened. The strange werewolves lynched my parents, and shape-shifted back into their human form. Who are they? What do they want? What the hell is happening can somebody tell me what just happened to my parents at a swoop; in a twinkle of an eye? Oh my gosh! I am doomed!
I was at the window pane of my room, perched like some miserable kitten and trembling uncontrollably. I wish I could fly away without being noticed by these shifters who were hell bound to eradicate my family. When I peeped I noticed they were in their numbers, all-black suited, armed with nothing, and standing by the lustrous black stretched limousine and escalades which parked elegantly in our premises. Their eyes brooded war and their jaw sagged without remorse. I wondered who wanted us dead and what would become of me now.
I believe those men were shape-shifters too. Their dark, brooding eyes said it all, their; their macho, hefty looks gave a lot of messages than I thought. These men were shape shifters who had come to feed on my family; just all of these innumerable men against three people. Gross!
“Search the whole fucking house, we must find that virus! Locate his laboratory. I believe it could be there. If we don’t find that virus we are ruined!”
The strange steel-like voice of Lord Mayor groaned at the corridor and commanded.
I was scared about what to do. I was about leaving and I would have to do that gently and stilly as breeze otherwise they would kill me and steal the virus.
I didn’t take time to study the content of the bottle in my hand; all I knew that something green was therein. I pocketed the bottle, and put my hands right into my pocket to protect it.
I was still fidgety. My hands trembled as one left out in the snow. I found my school bag which had just only some sketches of werewolves and I secured the green content in it.
I had to do that because if I should leave it in my pocket it could get ruined while escaping for my life.
“Search the whole place! And if you can’t find the virus, set the entire building on fire now! If we can’t find the virus, nobody will!”
Mayor’s voice commanded thundering and lightning.
I grabbed my school bag, hung it firmly across my shoulders, smacked my lips, with my eyes welled up in tears. I sniffed, sobbed and slid my head through the window, ready to escape.
The window was my safest exit, since much of the light in the compound had been turned off by my father, coupled with bushy garden which would mask me from these enemies.
Like a mouse, I lurked within walls and flowers and could still over hear the voice barking and commanding his men into action.
I was escaping yet I couldn’t fathom my destination. The night was falling into thicker darkness and no other destination came on my mind than the humble home of Prof. Duncan.
Professor Duncan was our Chemistry Head Teacher who fell in love with my calm personality and my talent of sketching werewolves.
He had hosted me to a dinner twice at his home and I was really hurt when I discovered he had had no wife or children, even in his late fifties.
He had told me severally “Greg, this is your second home you are welcome any time, and should you be in trouble don’t hesitate to run down here.”
Although Julius was my crony yet it didn’t bring me to his house and acquaintance with his family.
Professor Duncan lived in the woody suburb down town and it would task me a breath-taking determination and loins to get there. I would have to get ready to burn calories which I didn’t have.
But I didn’t care anymore. My life was at stake. They had murdered my parents. What was I living for? My joy was ruined
…Never you expose the virus to anyone. Go son go!
…They are coming to kill us. I want you to know I love you and mom so much but I must protect humanity.
Those words still echoed in my head. People are wicked. This life has never been fair to me. So, dad and mom are gone now. See the way they were slaughtered by those wolves like vultures devouring fishes. I never thought of losing my parents at this age. We had better plans for posterity…
I sobbed quietly, wiped my tears as I fidgeted uncontrollably in the chilly wind of the night. My entire body shivered along with my teeth. I couldn’t think straight any more.
What a wicked world. Right before my eyes I watched my parents being devoured in cold blood by those werewolves like raven. Who are these wolves and what do they want?
I was still lost in my thought, tucked away secretly beneath the ornamental plants of a neighboring garden when a ground-breaking bomb went off severally.
In a twinkle of an eye our house went up in flames. They had obeyed the voice of Lord Mayor who commanded them to set our house ablaze should they fail to find the virus.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
My room was the first part to get gutted in fire before my father’s laboratory. My eyes were welled up in tears, as my entire dentition shivered in total fear and destruction. This was the height of it.
Nothing was left of me. With reddened eyes, I beheld my room being ravaged by the yellow blue flames. I could imagine the colorful sketches of werewolves that hung on the walls going up in flames as dried grasses.
In a jiffy, I could hear the hooting of horn and the slamming of doors on their limousine. They were satisfied. They were good to go.
Mission accomplished.
They killed my parents. They burnt down my country home, but they never knew Greg was alive.
With clenched teeth and tears welled up in my eyes, I grabbed my school bag and made into the lonely night…
