A new day

It's 6:00 a.m., the alarm clock starts ringing incessantly to let people know it's time to get up, and a new day begins.

Elly tosses and turns in her single bed in her small studio apartment.

Slowly she opens her eyes staring blankly, thinking about the day she will have to make ends meet...still she has not been able to get the job she so aspires for...to join Findtransfer Corp. one of the world's leading intercontinental transportation corporations.

She studied day and night books on inter-state regulations and customer-supplier relationship management, how to manage the coordination and analysis of the company, she wanted at all costs to join the administrative team, to show that she could make a difference, she wanted to show that she could become 'Someone' as opposed to what she was always told... "you'll never be anyone," "they abandoned you, do you think you'll make your way?"...

YES! She wanted to make her way and become Someone!

She wanted to shake off that label they always gave her at school (if she really can be said to have attended a school), the aunt who raised her (if that can also be said), friends, if she really had any, other than Leslie, she was always by her side, always supported her morally and physically, if she had to shout at her to get her senses back she did that, if she had to comfort her late into the night she did that too.

Her life had to change and she knew that to achieve that she had to join that company!

After these thoughts she finally got up, made herself a cup of coffee, a slice of bread and jam, and went to the bathroom to wash up and get settled.

He had to be at work at 7 a.m. sharp, his boss Ron did not allow delays. His fast food restaurant, according to Ron, was impeccable because they kept to their working hours, opening, closing and service...then it was okay if his fries were terrible and the burgers looked dry.

But Elly cared little.

She had to hang in there a little longer; this money allowed her to study and buy books for her education with the goal of getting into Findtransfer. She knew that fast-food was not her life's work nor did she like having a boss who was fussy about schedules and had onion breath.

Finally finishing her work shift, it was 6 p.m., she stopped by to pick up some Chinese before heading home.

Once she got home she sat on the carpet resting her food and a beer on the coffee table in front of the TV. She picked up the phone and called Leslie.

They talked at least twice a week to tell each other about their days and to have a half hour of mental entertainment by bullshitting.

That evening, however, she told her best friend that the time had come to finally send in her resume....

"Leslie, I think the time has come, I feel ready to send my resume to Findtransfer..."

"Are you serious Elly? Do you feel ready? You've been studying for months now, I'm sure you'll have a great interview my friend!"

"Yes, after I finish drinking this beer I will send the email right away.... I feel the time has come."

She finished her dinner, put everything away by cleaning the station on the coffee table, took out her pc, opened the email writing her cover letter attaching her resume to it... finally with a big breath and trembling hand she clicked 'SEND'.
