Eren's POV
Last night was a disaster. That crazy hybrid bitch made me stain my expensive leather jacket with blood. Her annual salary wouldn't have been able to buy a new one for me.
I crossed my legs and read the travel magazine before me. Wooden chairs and tables filled the other side of the cafe, sultry bulbs hanging on the ceiling. Noon had arrived and people started exiting the cafe.
My nose itched me and I sneezed loudly. "Fucking caffeine." The smell irritated me.
At the other end of the cafe was a glass counter stocked with doughnuts and cakes. Luciana was behind it, wearing a white apron. Her hair was hidden inside a white baseball cap. Yawning, she advanced to the door and closed it as soon as the last customer left. She turned the open sign to show closed.
"Goodness." She wiped sweat off her forehead and removed the baseball cap.
Her curls bobbed as she let them fall freely. She loosened her apron with a sigh and tossed it on a chair, revealing the white top and black jeans she wore underneath. Cafe work must be really tiring. I couldn't imagine myself doing such a business that didn't generate massive profit.
"Would you like some coffee?" She asked sitting on a table across the room.
"I'm not sure your coffee would be up to my standards," I said. "And besides, caffeine makes me sick."
She rolled her eyes. "You could've just said no."
"And I didn't ask for your hospitality," I said, glancing at the magazine in my hands.
She chuckled and shook her head like when a mother doesn't approve a kid's plea to go outside and play. Luciana freaked me out. She was always calm in the most tense situations. I just acted rude to her but she behaved like my words meant nothing. Nobody had ever dared to hurt my pride this way.
"What's with the black suit?" She raised a brow. "I'm not holding any formal event."
"I wouldn't even attend if you held one."
"Follow me," She said, ignoring my insult.
She entered a corridor at the corner. I went after her. She stood before a golden framed painting and tilted it. The ground of the cafe rumbled and the wall before me shifted, revealing a wooden door. She had a secret room. It shouldn't be surprising considering she was the beast slayer.
"The beast slayer," I mused.
"I didn't come up with the name." She opened the door. "The people of Moonville did."
We walked in. The walls were made of huge lumps of rocks and white bulbs placed on the concrete. At the corner was a table that held three monitors and a keyboard. Someone sat before the screen and typed on the keys.
They turned to us and rose. It was a slender man in a white shirt that was meant for someone five times his size. His clavicle bone was showing through his skin, making him look like he hadn't eaten in years. His oval head reminded me of the drawings of funny cartoon characters. He had spiky short black hair and a thick goatee. His purple eyes piqued my interest. I had never seen anyone with those colour of eyes.
"Mr Light."His deep voice was unusual for a man with his stature. " Luciana hasn't shut her mouth about you since she met you that night."
"I'm not surprised " I smirked at her and put both hands in my pockets.
She advanced to the man and jabbed his guts. Oof. His eyes closed, he bent his back forward and held his stomach. He wheeze, his arms and legs trembling.
Luciana knocked his head. "Don't get full of yourself, Mr Light." She dragged the man's ear lobe. "Luiz, over here, loves to over exaggerate."
She let him go and he held his ear, wincing. At least I was quick to grab one fact. He wasn't physically strong. But I had thought Luciana wasn't going to tell anyone about me. Before I acted, I had to know what she told him.
"What exactly did you tell him?" I asked her, cocking my head.
"Everything," she answered, her eyes closed and arms crossed.
Bitch.
Electric blue sparks of lightning ran through my body and I bolted to Luiz. Grabbing him by the neck, I lifted him off the ground. He let out croaks and stared down at me.
Luciana wasn't even making a move to save him. She just stared at us like we were teaching a boring history class. This lady never missed an opportunity to insult me. She didn't see me as a threat. That was the only logical explanation for why she wasn't attacking me.
"Luiz, you can stop playing the victim now," she said calmly.
"Wolfsbanius," he managed to say.
Purple tendrils of gas left his mouth and came for my face. My nostrils burned and I released Luiz. I held my throat and coughed as I knelt down, my airway blocked. What did he do to me?
"Did you really think I would let someone as dangerous as you walk in here, without having plans to kill you if you misbehaved?" Luciana yawned and glanced at Luiz. "Neutralize the spell."
"Sure," he replied.
He snapped his fingers and fresh air drifted into my nostrils, making me sigh in relief. I rubbed a hand against my neck and rose. Maybe I shouldn't underestimate Luciana again. She was always prepared for every situation.
"That was wolfsbane in gas form," she said. "If he had left that in your system for another ten seconds, you could've been dead."
I chuckled and ran my hand through my hair. She didn't know. It was better I kept it a secret from her till she found out herself. Women loved surprises after all.
"So Luiz is a witch?" I asked coughing. The after effects of the poison was still there. Even a god like me couldn't escape the torture of wolfsbane.
"You catch up fast," he said and sat down on a chair.
This puny witch was being sarcastic with me. How dare he? On a normal occasion I'll attack him again. But I wasn't dumb to do that. Though he didn't look strong, he was unpredictable. I couldn't tell what he was thinking with those purple eyes. They had been clear and steady since I met him. He was the type of man that you wouldn't know what he was up to till he showed you.
"Are you trying to read me?" He asked, smirking.
My eyes shot open. How did he...
"It's alright." He switched his gaze to Luciana. "Even Luciana doesn't ever know what I have in mind."
"Don't get ahead of yourself." I dug both hands in my pocket and stared at the ground. "You may think you're unpredictable." I lifted my gaze and fixed it on his glassy purple eyes. "But I'm Eren Light. I'm always the strongest in the room."
He grinned. "You're a proud man, Mr Light. It can be your strength..." His eyes were still the same, steady with no sign of emotions. "and also your weakness."
"You don't have to worry." She flicked her black eyes to him. "Your secret is safe with Luiz. He has been helping me hunt werewolves for two years now."
"If you're introducing me to your comrade..." I crossed my arms. "are you trying to say your answer is a yes?"
"Yes." She did a curt nod to Luiz. "Mr. Light, please have a seat."
Luiz snapped his finger at my back. A purple ray shone behind me and when it dispersed, a wooden chair was there. It was then I noticed it. Luiz's magic had the colour purple, which was the same with his eyes. It now made sense why he would have such peculiar eyes. I sat down and yawned. This whole stuff was tiring.
"Before you can work with us," she started. "You need to know how we operate."
