Amira’s POV
As soon as we entered the mansion, we noticed a large gathering of people in the sitting room.
“My poor child!”
“Only God knows the terrible things that must have happened to her.”
“I have been preparing for her arrival for days now, but how would I have known that fate had other plans for us?”
Just from the annoyingly high-pitched voice alone, I already knew that it was definitely my stepmother being a drama queen as usual.
I gestured for Seb to stop so that I could observe what was going on properly.
“Young man, are you sure that the car you saw belongs to my family?” My father asked the young man in front of him.
"Yes, sir, I am one hundred percent sure that it's your car. The late driver and I used to be very good friends.
I saw how the car was attacked by bandits, and everyone inside was killed,” the young man said.
He was clearly lying, but his tone was quite convincing. He turned around to whisper something to one of the men behind him, and that was when I saw his face.
How can I ever forget him? He was the person that the driver had given me in my previous life. The one that tried to sell me off to some rich old man on my first day in the city.
“Did you see my daughter’s body?” My father asked with a sad voice.
“What are you asking, my dear? If the car was punctured by bullets, how do you expect her to be fine?” My stepmother asked my father with tears running down her face.
I now understand why she planned the kidnapping. In my previous life, after I was rescued by the police, I had to go for therapy due to trauma. It affected my self-esteem, and I had low self-confidence because the news got out that I was sold as a sex slave to an older man on the first day of my new school.
She did it to make sure that I wouldn't be able to compete with her daughter in anything. I was always cooked up in my room while Sasha was busy attending functions and etiquette classes.
“I really have to go back to the hospital,” Seb said, pulling me out of my thoughts.
“Okay, just let me get into character,” I said with a grin.
I quickly adjusted my expression to look like that of a frightened little girl who has witnessed something tragic.
Seb just kept staring at me with a stunned expression, and I just smiled at him before running forward.
“Father!” I cried as I rushed into my father's arms.
“Mimi?” He asked with a surprised voice.
“Yes, father,” I said with my head still buried in his chest.
“My little girl, I am so glad you are alright. Where have you been? What happened? How did you get here?” I asked a series of questions in one breath.
“I was saved by some passersby when the wicked driver tried to sell me to some human traffickers,” I said with tears streaming down my face.
“What nonsense are you saying? How would the driver do such a thing?” My stepmom asked me anxiously.
“I said he tried to sell me off, but you are defending him? Father, please don't tell me that she is the woman you married after my mother's death,” I said with a sad voice.
“My dear, calm down, okay. I know that a lot of things happened today that scared you,” my father said while rubbing my back.
“I don't know if I should be even more scared of living here, as your wife clearly doesn't like me,” I said while sobbing pitifully.
I could see Seb with his mouth wide open in shock from the side as he stared at me.
“When did I say that I don't like you? Why are you trying to create misunderstandings between me and my husband as soon as you enter our home?” my stepmother asked me angrily.
“You are right, this is your home; I shouldn't have come here in the first place,” I said, taking a step back from my father, ready to walk to the entrance.
“Elizabeth, what is wrong with you? You know how much I have missed my daughter all these years, and you want to drive her away as soon as we are reunited? Have you lost your mind?!” My father yelled angrily while holding my hand to prevent me from leaving.
“I was just trying to be reasonable here; have you thought of how she was able to get here in the first place?
I don't think she is as innocent as she appears to be; just look at how she is dressed; does she look like someone who came from the countryside?” My stepmom said it with a suggestive tone.
“Father, the driver really wanted to harm me. I was saved by that gentleman over there, and he took me to the mall to get new clothes because my gown was torn,” I said while gesturing in Seb’s direction.
“You really want us to believe that? You think you can fool us with such nonsense?
You are clearly not as pure and innocent as you appear to be; you must have framed the innocent driver just to spend some time with your lover. I mean, what more can we expect from a wild child?”
SLAP!
She was immediately silenced by a hot slap from my father, and she just held her cheek while staring at him in shock.
“Father, why would you hit mom for an outsider?” Sasha asked with an aggrieved tone as she rushed down the stairs.
“Who are you calling an outsider?!” He questioned her angrily, and she hid behind her mother in fear while glaring at me.
"Hello, sir, I am very grateful for your help,” he said to Seb, extending his hand for a handshake.
“I only did my duty, sir, and you have a really smart daughter.
As for the accusations leveled against me by your wife, I want you to know that there is no such relationship between me and your daughter.
She was saved by my boss, and he said that she is now under his protection and hopes that the Davis family will behave themselves accordingly,” Seb said with a domineering tone.
“If I may ask, who is your boss?” My father asked with a curious tone.
“The current head of the Marchetti family, Leonardo Marchetti.” As soon as his name was mentioned, everyone in the room drew sharp breaths in fear.
The young man from earlier was already trembling in fear, and so were his men.
“You seem to have a lot to say about what happened; why don't I take you to my boss? He will be very interested in what you have to say,” Seb said to the young man, who immediately peed in his pants out of fright.
He immediately ran away with his men without looking back.
“You can rest assured that she will be well taken care of,” my father said to him, and he said his goodbyes to me before leaving.
“Mimi, you are my lucky star; you met such an important figure on your first day in the city,” my father said while leading me upstairs without caring about the mother and daughter, who had aggrieved expressions on their faces.
The first part of my revenge has begun. I will let my father see their true faces. Let's see how they handle it.
“The second room on your left is yours,” my father said before turning back to the two of them.
I guess things can't change in a day, and I am ready to wait. I looked at them once more, and as soon as I looked at Sasha, she grinned at me.
Whenever she has that damned grin on her face, then she is definitely up to no good. I was still trying to figure out what she was up to when my leg suddenly slipped.
“Ahhh!” I screamed as I fell backward.
