Chapter 2

Nathan was momentarily surprised when I agreed so readily, but he quickly regained his composure.

At that moment, a distinctive phone ringtone broke the slightly awkward atmosphere between us.

Nathan took out his phone and answered it right in front of me.

A sweet, coquettish female voice came from the other end of the line. I stood still, not moving an inch.

After hanging up, he slowly got up and told me he had to go out and not to wait up for him.

"If you're tired, go to bed early. In a few days, there will be a batch of jewelry arriving. I'll take you out then. Be good."

With that, he turned and left.

He never mentioned my birthday from start to finish, nor did he say "happy birthday" to me.

The moment the villa door closed, the entire room fell silent.

The evening breeze slipped through the window cracks, bringing with it the scent of roses mixed with daisies from the back garden, making my already gloomy mood even worse.

After all, no matter how dazzling and captivating roses were, they could never be as fresh and eye-catching as daisies.

A twenty-year-old girl was indeed pure enough, making him lose his mind and even suggest that I should sleep around and have fun like him.

I knew Nathan said this because he was sure that as a recognized lady of high society, I wouldn't do such things.

I also knew that some things were better laid out in the open than done secretly behind one's back.

While satisfying his own desires, he never considered my feelings.

I wondered if one day he found out I was with another man, could he truly remain indifferent?

Just as I was thinking this, my phone rang.

"Cornelia, want to come out? It's your birthday today. I'll sing you a birthday song."

At that moment, my gloomy mood seemed to dissipate.

Since Nathan changed his heart towards me, there was no point in foolishly loving him anymore.

I smiled and spoke to the man on the other end of the line,

"Sure. I’ll see you at our usual spot."
