Chapter 1

The day Nathan Lawson came home again was my birthday.

The dining table was empty, not even a simple cake.

The luxurious villa felt desolate and impoverished at that moment.

He tugged at his tie and then, carrying the scent of another woman's perfume, sat down beside me.

When he noticed my slightly indifferent attitude, he lowered his eyes and smiled faintly.

His tone was quite candid, without a hint of apology.

"Honey, are you angry?"

"There's nothing to be angry about. You should know that even though I fool around outside, I only love you."

His tone was so calm.

But I suddenly found that the man in front of me felt so unfamiliar and frightening.

Seeing that I didn't speak, Nathan reached out to put his arm around my shoulder and spoke to me in an extremely serious tone,

"Cornelia, those people are just passing fancies. Only after seeing those ordinary people do I truly realize how perfect you are."

"Of course, if you feel it's unfair, you can also play the field like me."

"After all, it might even help our relationship, right?"

He spoke with such seriousness, but I felt a wave of irony. In just five years, this man had changed his heart.

I still clearly remembered the day five years ago when he knelt on one knee and proposed to me with deep affection in his eyes.

He said, "Cornelia, marry me. I will only love you in this lifetime."

"And I will never let you suffer any grievances."

The fireworks in the sky witnessed our love. The diamond ring on my ring finger bound my future, and I said yes.

But now, recalling all this again, I only felt endless mockery and absurdity.

Five years, one thousand eight hundred twenty-five days later, he finally changed his heart.

The vows of the past became empty promises.

I lowered my eyes and quietly stood up from his embrace to distance myself from him.

Then I spoke to him,

"Okay."
