CHAPTER 4

HAPPY READING

Luna took her notebook from her desk and entered Mr. Wiga's office. She tried to steady her racing heart. Sitting in front of Mr. Wiga, she felt like she was in a thesis defense, unable to voice her opinion.

Wiga leaned back in his chair, and on his desk was a clear folder containing an employee's CV. Luna noticed that there was a photo of her in it, with a blue background.

"Is this yours?" Wiga asked, his gaze on Luna.

"Yes, sir. It's from HR," Luna replied.

Wiga picked up the CV and looked at Luna again. "Your name is Luna Sadie?"

"Yes, sir, that's correct."

"Where do you live now?"

"I live in Tamansari Sudirman Apartments."

Wiga saw the address on the CV. "I see."

Luna continued, "Yes, sir. My parents' house is in Kelapa Gading. Due to the distance between my home and the office, I decided to rent an apartment near the office."

Wiga nodded, acknowledging her response. "You used to work in public relations, right?"

"Yes, sir."

"Are you originally from Jakarta?"

"Yes, sir. My parents' house is in Kelapa Gading. Due to the distance between my home and the office, I decided to rent an apartment near the office."

Wiga knew that public relations involved managing the public image and reputation through strategic communication efforts to gain a positive public perception. It required skills such as communication, analysis, observation, managerial abilities, creative thinking, and proficiency in foreign languages. That's why Luna was the strongest candidate to be his secretary.

Wiga put the CV back into the folder and looked at Luna again. She had a pen and paper in her hands.

"I want to assign you additional tasks," Wiga said.

"Sure, sir."

"You will handle export licenses and prepare documents for export purposes."

"Okay, sir."

"And one more thing, I'm currently building a small company."

"Which company is that, sir?"

"A talent school, Cantata, located in Kelapa Gading. You'll be in charge of both small and large cash transactions. And all the finances there."

"There aren't many employees, just 10 of them. They will give you their reports, and you'll check them first before giving them to me."

"Even the daily cash?"

"Yes, sir."

Luna was taken aback by the unexpected additional tasks that were completely outside her job description. She had no background in finance or accounting, and this new responsibility seemed daunting. She didn't anticipate such a role when she accepted the position, and she wondered if she should be compensated extra for this.

"Are you willing?" Wiga asked.

"I am," Luna replied, although she felt uncertain about her ability to handle this new responsibility.

"Okay, that's it," Wiga said, ending the discussion.

Luna got up from her seat, closed her eyes for a moment, and took a deep breath. She didn't know if she would eventually follow in Risa's footsteps and resign, given the challenges she faced on her first day. She couldn't help but feel overwhelmed.

"Luna," Wiga called out as Luna was about to leave his office.

Luna turned back and asked, "Yes, sir?"

Wiga retrieved some documents from his drawer, put them in his bag, and then stood up. He looked tired after his long trip.

"I'm heading home now. If you'd like to leave as well, it's okay," he said.

"Alright, sir," Luna replied.

Wiga left his office, and Luna watched him go. Once he disappeared behind the door, she entered her own workspace. She felt like she needed to vent about her new boss.

Physically, he was perfect, but after her first encounter with him, she realized he had no heart and had a massive ego. It was no wonder that no one stayed as his secretary for long. He was so arbitrary in assigning tasks outside her job description. Luna was especially frustrated with the unreasonable workload and the fact that she was handling finances for another company.

She picked up her phone and decided to call Manda to share her frustrations. She reached for the intercom on her desk.

"Hello, this is from the marketing division. Can I help you?" the voice on the other end answered.

"Manda, it's Luna," Luna said, skipping the formalities and getting straight to her story.

"Yes, Luna. What's going on?" Manda asked.

"Do you know what I went through today, meeting Mr. Wiga for the first time?"

"Why?"

"He already gave me tasks way beyond my job description, even though Risa's notes mentioned that there were plenty of tasks outside the secretary's job description. It's insane, Manda! I just got back from Singapore, and he's bombarding me with all these tasks!"

"What kind of tasks?" Manda inquired.

"He wants me to handle export licenses."

"OMG! Seriously?"

"Yeah, seriously. Not only that, I'm also asked to handle both the small and large cash accounts in the new company. Seriously, I feel so overwhelmed. Those are tasks that should be done by one employee, why am I the one asked to do it?"

"Yeah, I know. Especially when it comes to finances. It's really bad, isn't it, Mr. Wiga? No wonder many people are resigning."

"Can you handle it?"

"Yeah."

"You, always able to handle everything!"

"I'm not comfortable with this, Man! You know I'm new here! Seriously, he's so demanding!"

"Be patient, Lun. Mr. Wiga might just be that way, just try to enjoy it." "He shouldn't be like that, Man! This is not normal, it's torture!"

"Try to go along with it for now, if you can't handle it, talk to Mr. Wiga directly."

"Oh, seriously. I swear. I'd rather go back to being a PR!"

"You've already signed the contract. Whether you like it or not, you have to accept it. There's no way to go back to being a Public Relations."
