Chapter 6 Charity Banquet (2) Return the Card to Me

Sandra stood frozen on the spot. She never expected Hannah, who had always been gentle, to say such words. Hannah didn't give Sandra any face either, looking at their linked arms. She asked again, "Miss Stein, do you think you are more suitable to accompany my fiancé?"

Charles quickly realized it and pushed Sandra's hand away. Feeling trapped, Sandra forced a trembling smile and explained, "Because you rarely attends such galas, Miss Cooper. I accompanied Mr Sawyer to socialize. I apologize for the misunderstanding."

"Are you implying that I lack generosity?" Hannah asked.

As Sandra attempted to defend herself, Hannah spoke frankly, "Moreover, I am bothered by the fact that you has been holding onto my fiancé for the past five minutes since we entered the gala hall. It made me think that you are challenging me."

Hannah's words left Sandra pale-faced. Due to the difference in their status, she couldn't argue back loudly and could only keep explaining and apologizing, "No, Miss Cooper, it was my lack of discretion just now. It won’t happen again."

Hannah chuckled lightly but didn't say anything in reply.

Susan, standing beside them, was genuinely taken aback. Was this the Hannah she knew? She had warned Hannah before, saying that Sandra had intentions of becoming a third party, always following Charles closely and being intimate with Charles. It was obvious that Sandra had ill intentions. However, Hannah had expressed her trust in Charles, and since Susan thought Charles was a good person, she didn't comment too much on it. But she couldn't stand Sandra's attitude, with her good looks, prestigious university degree, and becoming a special assistant to the general manager at a young age. Sandra always looked down on others, especially girls from affluent families like Susan, implying that they relied solely on their family background and had no real worth.

Seeing Hannah publicly reprimand Sandra, Susan couldn't help but feel satisfied.

"Hannah," Charles suddenly spoke and held Hannah's hand. Although Hannah resisted internally, she held back.

"I didn't expect you to come here today. I'm glad." Charles intentionally avoided mentioning the incident where Hannah scolded Sandra. He didn't say a good word about Sandra or explain why he let her hold onto him. Charles was always good at diverting attention. Hannah was also smart enough not to say much. She had already taught Sandra a lesson and made Charles embarrassed. Being too obvious in her attitude wouldn't be beneficial for what she planned to do next.

"Let's go. I'll introduce you to my parents. They definitely want to meet you." Charles smiled gently as always. Hannah nodded and informed Susan, then walked through the hall while holding Charles's arm. Their combination of talent and beauty naturally attracted many gazes.

"Hannah truly lives up to being the most beautiful woman in Northfield. I used to think it was just a rumor."

"She hasn't appeared in public much before, and this is my first time seeing her. I was worried that she wouldn't be as beautiful as rumored, but it seems I had my biases."

"I always thought Hannah wasn't a match for Charles, but now that I see it, Hannah seems different from what I imagined. She seems quite impressive."

The voices of those discussions also reached the ears of Hannah and Charles. Back then, because Hannah rarely attended these events and Charles knew how to present himself, people from Kensbury felt that she wasn't a suitable match for Charles. Now, hearing these voices, Charles felt displeased. He always liked to position himself at the top and couldn't stand anyone speaking ill of him or surpassing him, including Hannah. But he was used to putting on a disguise, and no one could see through it.

The two of them approached Charles' parents together and greeted them proactively. Hannah used to believe that the Sawyers genuinely treated her well, showing concern and taking care of her. Later, she found out that it was all just to gain her trust and deceive her out of her inheritance. She concealed her emotions and socialized with the Sawyers.

The banquet hall was filled with people coming and going. As one of the four strong powers, the Sawyer family had many people to please and chat with. Gradually, Hannah walked away, and Charles didn't even notice her departure. Before, she always thought that his negligence toward her due to work was understandable. She had always been making excuses for him.

Hannah turned and walked towards the backyard. Sure enough, she didn't like crowded places. Once she reached the backyard, she felt much more relaxed, but then...

"Miss Cooper," A voice suddenly startled her.

She turned her head and saw a stunningly handsome man stepping out of the darkness. Hannah subtly shifted her gaze and asked, "Why are you here?"

"I was waiting for you." Oscar's attractive mouth curved upward.

How did he know she was coming to the backyard?

"Do you need something from me?" asked Hannah.

"Return the card to me." Oscar spoke directly.

Hannah was surprised. Indeed, she shouldn't have placed too much hope in this person.

"Weren't you always generous towards women?"

"So you’re reminding me that you're already my woman?" Oscar approached her, preparing to flirt with her.

Hannah evaded him.

"Playboy." Hannah said in an unfriendly tone, "The card is at home. I'll return it to you next time!"

After speaking, she turned around, ready to leave.

At 22 years old again, her purpose was clear. She didn't plan to give herself too much relaxation time, so she also needed to learn how to socialize.

At that moment, she saw Charles coming out of the banquet hall. It seemed like he had just noticed her absence and came out to find her. When he saw her, Charles appeared angry, probably thinking that it was her duty to silently stay by his side no matter what he was doing. However, in the next second, this hypocritical man could immediately transform into an elegant and gentle demeanor. He spoke in a mild tone, "Why are you alone? I couldn't find you, and I was worried for a long time."

"I came out to get some fresh air when it felt stuffy. I was just about to go back." Hannah smiled faintly.

"Tell me next time, I’ll keep you company." Charles affectionately pulled her into his embrace.

Hannah felt somewhat uneasy, especially under Oscar's gaze. She couldn't quite decipher what his expression meant, but it made her feel guilty somehow. After all, they were just in a business partnership.

Charles noticed Oscar's gaze, but he remained poised and even greeted him. Charles extended his hand and began, "Mr Wells? It's been a long time."

Oscar glanced at him but didn't shake his hand. He walked past them and said, “Mr Sawyer, you have a gorgeous fiancée, do keep her close.”
