Jaelyn's standpoint.
I stared into the stranger's eyes in a trance. His eyes spoke volumes of how dangerous he was, but oddly it pulled me in and made me want to give him all my trust.
He was the one who broke out staring contest first as he shoved me off him. His expression became blank.
“Who the hell are you?”
“I'm Jaelyn, I apologize for bumping into you, and thank you for saving me.” I said timidly sticking out my hand for him to shake.
He frowned and shot another cold glance at my stretched hand before settling his piercing gaze on my face.
Everyone in this house seemed to enjoy doing that.
“What the hell are you doing wandering around like a thief? You should be sorry for being much too clumsy" He questioned coldly.
“I'm sorry, I was heading to the dining, and I was looking around to see where I had passed earliest, so I didn't see you.”
“Whatever! Just stay out of my way.” With that, he slammed into my shoulder and stormed off making me fall on my butt.
Jerk! To think, I even thanked him for saving me. He should have just let me fall.
I thought inwardly as I got up and cleaned my butt.
I glared in the direction he was heading before turning back to trace my way to the dining.
“He could have at least directed me in the right direction.”
Eventually, I found the stairs after getting lost a few times. The house was too big.
There, Masen sat munching on his lunch.
“There you are. I was thinking of getting Asher to call you down for lunch, but I figured you might be too tired. Have a seat. A table will be set for you now."
“Thank you, sir.” I sat down at the seat closest to him.
"Enough with the “sir”. As much as I prefer respect, it's uncomfortable since you are Linnea's kid. You can just call me uncle."
Huh?
“Does that mean that you are my."
“Oh! That. I guess if we don't look at the formalities, I was a brother to Linnea. So yes, you can say I'm your uncle.”
Really? I had an uncle.
“Okay, uncle.” He beamed at my obedience before continuing to eat his food.
Soon my food was served, and I tried not to gape at the grandeur.
“Eat up. You'll need it in the coming days.”
I wanted to ask what he meant but tasting the delicious food had me focusing my mind elsewhere.
When we were both done, I tried to clear my plates, but he told me not to, so I could only watch uncomfortably as someone else did.
He led me to his study and gestured for me to take a seat.
“So Jaelyn, like I said, I will take care of your feeding, clothing, and everything that concerns your well-being. Furthermore, I wanted to ask if you went to school.”
“Thank you so much sir, but isn't this too much? I still don't want to take advantage of you.”
“I told you to drop this topic. If you want to stay here, you need to drop this mentality. Now, back to my question. School?”
“Yeah. I went to school and only stopped when my mother got sick. My grades were always in the top rank.” I explained.
“Grades won't matter anyway.” He muttered in a low voice that I almost didn't hear. “Anyways! You'll begin school the day after tomorrow. Tomorrow will be used to get you geared up and also to get yourself ready.”
“Really? Uncle, I'm so grateful for your help.” I answered, excited for the first time since my mother's demise.
I was a nerd and the thought of going to school again made me happy. Any thoughts I had of maintaining my pride went out the window.
“You are welcome. The school is also where my son is going. Hopefully, he'll be able to get you settled in. Although that's quite unlikely.”
Wait, what? Does Uncle Masen have a son? Why am I just finding that out? Could it be that person from earlier?
He seemed to have seen my confusion because he continued.
“Yes, I have a son. His name is Enzo. He's two years older than you. I wanted to introduce him to you, but he claims he's too tired. I'll try to do so before school.”
It must truly be that rude jerk. So his name is Enzo?
“Okay, uncle.”
“That's all. You can go rest or go on a tour around the house. It's up to you.” He waved dismissing me.
I thanked him again before turning to leave.
This time around, I didn't walk around foolishly. I got one of the kinder-looking maids to give me directions.
Settling into my room, I thought about everything that had happened as of late. It felt like a dream. I remembered my mother and sadness enveloped me.
I wasn't sure when I drifted off to sleep, but I remember that a certain rude jerk surprisingly featured in my dreams.
When I woke up again it was the morning of the next day. After freshening up, I headed downstairs, where Asher was waiting for me.
“The Alp… I mean the master asked me to take you shopping after you have your breakfast.”
I raised my brow at his stutter, but I didn't comment and greeted him before going off to eat my food.
Later, I followed Asher and a maid as we went off to the mall and then shopped for the whole day. They bought some expensive ones that I immediately refused, but they ignored my protest.
A day passed, and soon it was time for school.
“Let's go.” Uncle Masen told me as he ushered me into his car. I wanted to ask him about Enzo, but I kept shut since it wasn't my place.
“Welcome Alpha. This must be Jaelyn. It's nice to have you here. I hope you can fit in well.” The headmistress, Mrs. Angela said, and I raised my brow at the address she used for Uncle Masen.
“She doesn't know.” Uncle Masen told Mrs. Angela, and she nodded with an understanding expression.
“Don't worry about that. I'll fill her in eventually after she gets fully settled.” I started back and forth between them.
What were these people on about? What was I not aware of, and what would they be filling me on?
I have an awful feeling about this.
