Chapter Five

Regina woke up to the sound of the door bell. She lazily pushed herself down the bed and walked to the door. Her eyes were still heavy from her sleep.

She opened the door and rubbed on her eyes to see clearly. It's Liam and the other guy who was staring at her the other day.

"Good morning Gina", Liam greeted her with a smile, "Good morning", she greeted back moving out of the way.

They walked in.

She walked behind them, trying to rub off the drool by her lips, she breathed into her hands and it smelled horrible.

They sat down while she stood there looking at them with her hands behind her.

Liam bent over and picked up the contract from the floor and flipped it,

"Guess you read it, right?", he said smiling,

"Ah.. Yea, I did", she actually didn't complete reading it, but its just a contract, "You didn't sign it",

"Oh.. Yea, uhm", she rushed to her bag looking for a pen, that's when she saw herself on the mirror. She forgot how her hair can disappoint her. She felt embarrassed.

She walked back to them with a pen, Liam slapped the couch telling her to sit. She sat beside him while he opened the file and she signed.

Liam exhaled and closed the file.

"So everything will start tomorrow, first you'll have a medical screening",

"Medical screening?",

"Yea, you'll be examined to see if you have the potential to carry the pregnancy",

"Oh"

"Yea", he said signaling Seth to say something, instead he looked away.

"So, you ready for this?",

"Yes, I am", she said with a smile, then looked over to Seth, who looks like he can't wait to get up

"Okay then", Liam said getting up,

"you're lucky", he hugged her, Seth was already heading to the door.

When they were in the elevator, "Would it hurt to at least say hello to her?", Liam asked, "It wouldn't",

"She's your child's mother to be", Seth lifted his eyebrows in surprise,

"she's just a surrogate, that's all",

"She's a human too",

"She is? Did you see her hair? She looks like an animal more than a human to me", he said stepping out of the elevator, Liam sighed and followed behind.

She entered the office and the nice smell filled her nose unlike the hospital hall way. She hated hospitals.

A middle aged woman smiled at her and signaled for her to sit,

"Okay Doc, I'll have Sandy send it over when am done", she said and ended the call.

"Miss Regina Rachel Johnson?",

"Yes",

"Hm, you look nice",

Gina chuckled, "thank you",

"Its nice to meet you, am Cate, a surrogate expert", "Its nice to meet you too", "Alright, come with me".

Gina followed behind her into a wider office, with a bed and machines and other equipment.

"Sit down", she said to Gina who looked around but guessed she had to sit on the bed since there's no chair.

"Have you done this before, surrogacy I mean?", she asked gathering some equipments.

"No",

"In a relationship?",

"No",

"Why did you decide to do it?", when Gina didn't respond, she stopped what she was doing to look at her.

"Money?",

Gina smiled. Then she walked to her.

"Its fine, you can trust me, surrogacy is not a hard thing to do, its just like normal getting pregnant, just that you won't work for it, if you know what I mean", they both laughed, "don't worry, you're in good hands", Gina nodded.

"Am just going to do some medical screening which won't take much time, I'll just check your body system to see if you have any infections and other...stuff you don't need to know, it will be done before you know it",

She said and positioned Gina as she started the screening.

"I've done this for many women, many of them. Most women do it for money, some just to have a baby and create a wonderful family, its wonderful you know, I mean, the smile in their faces at the end of it all, its like magic happened", she laughed.

She went on and on about surrogacy and stories of people who had it successfully, Gina nodded and smiled all through.

After an hour clocking to two hours, they were done and back in Cate's office.

"So I'll see you tomorrow after the results are out. If they came out all good, then we can carry on, the rest will be done at home, then we can wait and see how it goes. Just relax okay, everything will be fine", she said holding Gina's hand,

"Thanks", Gina said and left the office.

She texted Liam that she's done and waited for him in the cafe near the hospital.

She suddenly started to notice pregnant women walking by, then some with their babies. She has never noticed or thought of things like that.

Her phone beeped and it was the driver who'll pick her up.

She stared with her mouth wide open as the driver drove her through the huge compound.

She used to see this kind of things in a movie.

She asked the driver to wind down the glass.

"Wow!", she exclaimed.

The car stopped in front of a big house and she got down.

"Wow, beautiful", she said moving closer to the fountain in front of the house.

"Miss Regina", she heard someone call her, "yes", she answered stepping away from the fountain. "I am Rosa, the house keeper, I was informed you'll be coming today", said a woman in her late fifties stepping out from the house.

"Yes, call me Gina", she said and the woman smiled.

"Come on in", Gina followed her.

"I was informed just yesterday that you'll be coming, there's still a lot to do in that room, so for now you'll stay in the guest room, by weekend it will be done", she said and opened the guest room.

"Thank you",

"Feel at home, I'll come for you when dinner is served", she said and left.

Gina jumped up from the bed with her heart pounding on her chest. Someone had pushed the door open and is staring at her.

Christ!

She said holding her heart "You forgot to knock", Gina said "Its my house", Seth replied.

"Your...house?",

"You heard me",

"Why am I in your house?", she asked trying to understand his point.

"I am very sure you were driven from the hospital down to this house and you walked into this room and you don't know where you are? And you're asking me why you're here?", Gina sat there looking at him, confused.

"What should I call that, ignorance or just absolute stupidity?", Seth said removing his hands from his pocket.

Gina eyed him not fully getting what he's saying.

Why would the guy who doesn't talk and only stares be here?

Why is he saying that she's in his house?

Where is Mr. Liam?

"I don't know what you're saying but I want to talk to Mr. Liam right now", "Why would you want to talk with him?", Seth asked folding his arms.

Gina looked sideways still not getting what's happening, she searched her pocket, then the bed and the drawers looking for her phone,

"You won't find it?", Seth said,

"What?",

"Your phone",

"A-and why is that?",

"You signed a contract you didn't read? Well I guessed as much",

"I read the contract!", she claimed,

"Why are you then looking for your phone?",

"Why wouldn't I?",

"The contract clearly said that all personal belongings must be confiscated till the end of the deal".

Gina sighed, it might be the little siesta she had, because she can't seem to understand a word the man standing in front of her is saying.

"Excuse me", she said and walked past him, down the stairs. The woman that welcomed her said she was going to prepare a room for her, she took her belongings, so it will probably be there. She needs to talk with Liam.

Wait! She thought Is this a scam?

She stopped walking and thought about it, It can't be!

She turned back and saw Seth walking out of the room, "Excuse me Sir", she said walking fast towards him.

Seth didn't stop he kept walking. He knew it the first time he set his eyes on her that she's just a dumb girl, but not to this level.

Does she not even know him? She never acted like she does.

He thought.

He was going to call Liam to cancel the deal, but he can't keep on letting him deal with his problems, he's got a life too. He just have to manage.

He walked into his office ignoring Gina.

She followed him inside his office, it was so huge it caught her attention for some seconds. "Sir, sorry to disturb you but, I don't really get what's happening", Gina said standing there all confused.

Seth ignored her and sat on his desk and took his iPad.

"Sir?", Gina called again, yet he ignored her, she was starting to get annoyed.

"Mr. Seth", she called and Seth raised his eyes to look at her.

"I get it that you don't want to talk to me, me neither", she said pointing to herself,

"I just want to talk with Mr. Liam-",

"Why?",

"Why?... Cause he's the reason why I came all the way to New York!",

Seth sat up from the desk nodding his head, "you thought Mr. Liam is the donor?",

"Thought?", she sniffed, "Mr. Liam is the donor",

Seth kept looking at her not saying anything,

"He's not?", she asked really confused and surprised, "omg! then who is?",

It can't be!

She thought and looked him up and down.

Seth dropped his iPad on the desk, deeply regretting ever listening to Liam, but he has already started and he finishes whatever he started, he just have to deal with a dumb idiot for awhile and get the inheritance and everything will go back to normal.

"You said you read the contract, I don't care whether you read it or not, you've signed it, so do your part well", he said and walked past her.

Gina stood their for a moment, the middle-aged house keeper walked by and saw her in the study.

"What are you doing here?",

Gina jumped, "nothing, uhm I was looking for you",

"Do you need anything?",

"Yes, my stuff, you had them taken when I came here hours ago",

"Its no longer in my keep", she told her closing the door, Gina moved out of the room.

"Why? I need my cell phone to make a call",

"There's a landline by the end of the hall, you can use that", she told her and they started walking down to her room.

"Dinner will be ready soon, just stay in your room and don't wander about", Gina nodded and watched her walk away.

She sat in her bed, regretting why she didn't read the contract well and how dumb she looked in front of Seth.

Maybe Liam is his secretary that's why he did all the talking.

She opened the window, looking out through it to a beautiful garden,the moonlight made it look so magical.

She thought of her mum. They must be expecting a call from her since that Friday she left.

She exhaled and sat on the bed.

Tomorrow everything will start, she touched her stomach, she's going to get pregnant tomorrow.

Is it tomorrow?

She laughed at the thought of that. The door opened and Rosa appeared, announcing that dinner is ready.
