We soon got to the hotel and checked into our room. It was a very big suite with about two rooms and the chandelier in the living room was very pretty but standing under it made me feel like it was going to fall so I made a mental note to avoid going through it and just go about it.
As soon as we got to our suite, Jason changed into a black three piece suit and left. He didn't say anything to me, he just left without a word which was very rude but it's not like I expect anything from him. I just wish he could be a little polite and not act like a stuck up teenager all the time.
Ding dong...
I was admiring the living room when I heard the doorbell. I went up to the door and looked into the peephole expecting to see a hotelier waiting to tell me about room service but I was surprised to see Jade at the door.
I opened the door and stared at him in confusion.
"I bet you're wondering why I'm here." Jade began to explain.
"Well, yeah." I said quietly.
"Uhmm, so I'm actually an intern at Jason's Tech which means I'm like a shuttle." Jade said awkwardly.
"By shuttle, you mean errand boy?" I asked with raised brows.
"Well, yeah." Jade mumbled.
"Well, for what it's worth, I don't think you're an errand boy and that's a crappy thing to hear, is this how everybody acts around here?" I asked in annoyance.
"Uhmmmm.." Jade stalled unsure of what to say.
"That last one was a rhetorical question so you don't have to answer." I said laughing and Jade laughed too.
Well, that cleared the awkwardness.
"So why are you here?" I asked after our short laughing session.
"Uhmm yeah, so Mr Clinton asked me to take you to a boutique for clothes." Jade said.
"Well, I don't think there are boutiques for flowers." I laughed because of what he said.
"Yeah, sorry." Jade apologised.
"No, you don't need to, I know you're nervous being a chaperone for your boss's wife so I get you." I said trying to make jade feel better.
"Yeah, I've only driven people around mostly or gotten their coffee or lunch, I haven't done anything remotely useful yet." Jade said quietly.
"Well, driving me to a boutique isn't useful either." I wanted to say but saying that might give jade a hint that the thing between Jason and I isn't real and part of the contract says I'm not allowed to say something about it or act like we're a fake couple even if we are.
"Enough talking, let's get going." I said, giving Jade a smile. Then I took my purse and my keys to the suite and we both took the elevator down to the underground parking lot where we got into the car and Jade showed me around town. Apparently, there are places around New York city that I've not been to and there are scarfs that cost over a thousand dollars which was really surprising for me.
We first went to a Versace store and they said they were expecting me and they made me try on different clothes that my husband had picked out for me. To be honest, it was kinda romantic knowing that Jason had picked out clothes for me but I knew he was just doing that as a formality, I didn't really find a dress that made me feel pretty so we headed to the next store which is a Celine store and I saw dresses that cost over fourteen thousand dollars. All my life, I've only worn clothes that I got from a thrift store or from a market place and they cost nothing more than twenty dollars but here, it was so expensive that even dry cleaning the clothes cost more than a thousand dollars. At the Celine store, I picked out a white silk gown that made me look very beautiful, at least jade said so. The clothes they said Jason had picked out was a hot red gown that hung on every part of my cleavage and was a bit revealing at the back. I didn't want to come off as slutty to the board of directors and I'm pretty sure Jason didn't think before picking out that dress for me.
After going to different boutiques and shopping for clothes, Jade drove me to Jason's working place just in time for the meeting with the board of directors where he would introduce me as his wife.
"Mr Coleman is in his office, you can wait there." Clinton said to me when I saw him in the lobby.
"Okay." That was all I said before taking the elevator to the eleventh floor where Jason's office is.
I didn't know what to expect so I went to his office. Okay, maybe I expected him to compliment me on the dress I was putting since that was all Jade was gushing about when I came out of the dressing room back at the store but this was surely nothing close to what I expected. This was a full turnaround from the way Jason acted on our wedding or anywhere else in particular. It was like he was a different person. I was starting to think he had a split personality or he was bipolar.
As soon as I got to his office, I met him at the door escorting an older man who looked like he was in his late forties with a moustache that didn't really fit him at all especially as he was bald. I don't think I know bald people with moustaches. Plus where I'm from we don't often go bald, black people that is.
But that wasn't the shocking thing or the turn around. This was what shocked me.
Jason saw me and his eyes lit up and he smiled at me. I swear I felt butterflies in my stomach when he did that. But most of all, he came to me and gave me a warm hug and dragged me to introduce me to the bald older man.
"Mr Flynn, this is my wife Eve." He said giving me a kiss on my forehead.
"Eve, this is Mr Flynn, he's the owner of MI mobility." Jason said, still smiling.
"Nice to meet you Mr Flynn." I said smiling.
"Eve, such a beautiful name." Mr Flynn said in a french accent.
"I love the hair though, it's curly." Mr Flynn said, smiling at me.
"Yeah, thanks." I was unsure of what to say to that compliment.
"Well, babe, Mr Flynn here has always wanted to sign a contract with the company but he didn't believe men without a strong women could hold up a company so he didn't but as soon as he heard that I got married, he took a flight to New York and came to sign a contract with me." The nickname caught me off guard and I looked at Jason with wide eyes and he rolled his but Mr Flynn didn't seem to notice.
"This is all thanks to you, my love." Jason said, kissing my forehead again.
"Thankyou Mr Flynn, it means alot to us." I said, smiling goofily. Jason being all lovey dovey around me was something I could get used to but I guess not.
"I think I'll leave you two lovebirds alone, it must be hard coming to work when you should be on your honeymoon so I'll leave you be." Mr Flynn said and without waiting for Jason to say something he walked away.
As soon as he was out of sight, Jason pushed me out of his grasp and I frowned.
"Come in." He said opening the door to his office and entering inside while I followed suit.
"The board meeting got delayed because of Mr Flynn but it would start in a few minutes, it's just an introduction to them since they've been pressuring me to get married but with your crappy behaviour, I doubt they'll believe this." Jason said, slightly raising his voice.
"What do you mean crappy behaviour?" I asked, feeling offended.
"Well, I don't think that's how newlyweds act and why are you dressed in this drab clothes?" He asked angrily.
"Newlyweds? Drab?" I questioned with raised brows.
"Didn't you read the contract? You're supposed to do whatever I tell you and that includes wearing the clothes I picked out for you to wear, not these clothes that look like you're going to church to beg God for forgiveness after dressing like a slut to a drag queen." Jason lashed out and I simply watched him in annoyance.
I needed the money but I wasn't going to let him talk to me like I was some ten year old child who broke the glass of drinks in a bar mitzvah.
" The clothes you ...." I was going to lash out at Jason too when the door flung open revealing a blonde lady in a pink suit.
"They're waiting for you sir." She said with an awkward smile.
"Okay Patricia, we'll be right there." Jason said with a fake smile and she closed the door behind her.
"Act right, behave accordingly, let's go." Jason said, turning to me before turning and going out of the office. I followed behind him fuming like hot tacos.
We soon got to the big conference room and the door opened revealing a lot of old geezers seatted talking about a lot of things which were halted immediately they saw me and Jason walk in together.
"Sorry for the long wait, I had to bring in someone that I wanted the board to meet." Jason said, smiling as he walked to the front of the wide table.
"This is Eve, my wife." He pointed to me as I walked towards where he was standing and soon stood beside him.
They all looked like they had a lot of questions and they didn't hesitate to ask them.
"What company is she from?"
"What do her parents do?"
"Is she from Africa?"
"She's pretty."
All kinds of questions and statements were thrown to Jason and he looked very uncomfortable and as for me, I felt very embarrassed plus the anger that was in me from my fight with rude Jason earlier.
Since he wants me to act like a wife who is stupidly in love with her husband then that's what I'll do.
"Jason and I..." I said loudly shutting them all up as they all stared at me with expectant eyes.
"Jason and I are in love." I said holding Jason's hands and squeezing them tightly and giving him a sick smile.
"He didn't want people to know about us because he knew people expected him to be with someone of the same class but I was willing to be with him despite being kept in the dark." I said, still smiling.
"And then the board wanted him to get married and he didn't want to marry someone who isn't me." I said acting like I wanted to cry.
"He asked if I was ready to face criticism but I was ready to face anything as long as I was with him and I know you all don't want to accept me but I love Jason and I hope you all accept his decision." I said concluding my fake love speech.
I felt bad saying I loved Jason when I didn't love him but everywhere was really silent and I was starting to regret my decision. Jason was probably going to kill me for the nonsense stunt I just pulled but instead people started clapping and wiping their tears. Did my fake love story just move them?
"You made the right decision getting married, Mr Coleman." Someone said and I looked at him and smiled. Another man simply cleared his throat and started talking about another work related topic. He didn't seem pleased with my speech but I don't care because my speech was just a crappy way of me trying to screw Jason over. I didn't realise I was still holding Jason's hands until he forcefully removed his hands from my hold.
"Your hands are sweaty." He said frowning.
"Ohhh..." Was all I could say before looking away to hide my blush. I don't know why I was blushing anyways, what he said wasn't even close to a thankyou.
The meeting soon ended and a few women on the board came to congratulate me on getting married. I didn't realise Jason had gone back to his office until Clinton came to tap my shoulders.
"It's time to go." Clinton said to me when I turned to face him.p
"What about Jason?" I asked.
"He's busy." Clinton shrugged before answering.
"Okay." I said, sighing heavily as I followed Clinton who led me to the parking lot. I wanted to ask him about jade but he didn't seem like he wanted to talk judging from the frown on his face so I kept quiet.
I managed to catch a glimpse of a very beautiful woman in a revealing coral gown that showed her cleavages.
I wondered why women chose to dress in revealing clothes sometimes but body positivity is a thing so I shrugged and got into the car while Clinton drove me back to the hotel.
While I was in the conference room, it hit me that I was now a married woman. I've been telling myself that I got married for a day now but the moment I said that speech earlier, it hit me that I was a married woman now and I decided I was going to make it work with Jason even if he is a rude jerk. Because as Grandma Nini said "there's love after marriage."
