Chapter 7

“We had a deal! You said you will spare Jackson’s life if I give Candice to you! I am giving her to you now! So what the hell do you think you are doing?” Luke yelled as he rushed towards Jackson’s side. I’ve never seen him so out of control with his emotions until now. He was crying so hard. But what he said and did made my heart bled all the more.

What about me, Luke? I’m just as hurt, too.

There were about five masked men surrounding us. And I don’t really understand why they were after me. But to think that Luke was willing to trade my life like this made me feel like a disposable toy. Before the strangers could shoot again, another bunch of guys appeared.

That was the last thing I remembered before I fainted.

When I woke up, I found myself sitting on a wooden chair. My hands and feet were tied firmly to a chair. I feel dizzy and tired. My entire body ached like I’ve been through a marathon and my wrist felt numb. I figured it was not because of the ropes around my body but because of the blood being drawn from me. I froze when I saw several blood bags on the floor. I looked around and found out that I was inside a room. Aside from the wooden table near me which had several guns on top of it, there was nothing else inside.

I had been kidnapped. And for some strange reason, the kidnappers seemed to be after my blood seeing how much they took from me. That was certainly the reason why I feel dizzy. Why were they doing this to me? At this rate, if they take more blood, I could not tell anymore if I would survive. Was this how I am going to die?

Tears glazed my eyes. Why couldn’t the world give me a break? All these in one night were just too much for me. I’ve just had my heart broken by the man I loved the most. Now this? And what about Luke and Jackson? Where were they?

“So the Sleeping Beauty is finally awake. Hello again, Candice.”

I WAS TAKEN aback by the familiar voice that I heard. The door was closed and I did not see and hear it open that’s why hearing that voice made my heart thump out of surprise. When I looked up, my eyes widened upon seeing Marcus Moran.

The Morans were one of the most prominent families in the business world. His family and mine knew each other from way back. In fact, I used to see Marcus and his parents in the gatherings. He and I did not get to talk to each other often but I knew him as a very courteous man. Just like Jude, Marcus’ older brother, he had a kind glow in his eyes.

Or so I thought.

He did not look like he was kidnapped, too. He seemed way too… comfortable. His body was untied like mine. And his eyes were sparkling as if he was having the best time of his life. Still, I had to give him the benefit of the doubt.

“How come you are here, too?” I asked in a hoarse voice.

Marcus laughed. “So you really did not know? Your family did not tell you anything?”

“What are you talking about? Why are you involving my family in this?”

He stepped closer and roughly took away the needle on my wrist. The blood gushed out. It hurts. I wanted to scream but I had no energy left in me.

“This, my dear Candice, is what I am talking about,” he said before licking the blood off my wrist. I broke out in cold sweat when I saw how his eyes changed. From blue, they became… yellow. And he had… fangs. His nails also became longer and sharper that his grip ached a lot.
