Chapter 10

I shook my head. What Marcus was saying was just too hard to grasp. It was as good as saying that the Earth was square. I haven’t seen Blake in quite a long time. I tried not to see him as often as before since Luke would constantly make a big deal out of it but we still talk to each other on the phone every now and then. Blake was the only constant thing in my life. He made sure that our friendship would remain solid throughout the years. That’s why despite my own pain, I still found it ridiculous that someone as gentle as him was being accused like this.

Not to mention that I have met Blake’s parents countless times before. They were such adorable people. They even sponsor many orphanages and home for the aged facilities in the country. Are there Vampires who would actually be interested in helping those people? And what would they gain out of it?

And Blake as a prince of all the Night Creatures? Only a person with a massive imagination could think of something as terrible as that.

It was like Marcus and I were talking about two different people with the same name. Blake did not deserve this. If the tables were turned, I knew Blake would defend me, too, in a heartbeat.

“Let’s talk about this first. Please calm down, Marcus,” I said as his grip on my neck became tighter. “That sword thing you were talking about is impossible. Blake does not even use a knife except when he’s eating and-“

Suddenly, Marcus was looking at me like I was the most pitiful person he had ever seen. “You are such a fool, human.”

“AND you are such a liar, Marcus. Even if you kill me now, I will never betray the Alcanders and team up with someone like you. I will always stand by my best friend’s side.”

I know I should not provoke Marcus any further. But considering the unbelievable amount of rage he had with the Alcanders, whatever I say and do would be useless anyway.

Marcus was a changed man. His words could never be trusted.

I felt a chill ran down my spine when Marcus smirked. “Go ahead, then. Stick to your stupid beliefs until your last breath, human. I would love to see Blake’s reaction upon seeing you die. You are the most important woman to him, after all. If I can’t make you betray him, then I will just let him experience the pain of losing the woman he loves. I’m sure that by now, His Highness is already searching for you like a mad man. Too bad, he will never be able to find out where you are. And in case he does, which is very impossible considering the barrier the Mage surrounded around this place; there are several Rogues who would get in his way. He would have a hard time coming here.”

I gasped. So there weren’t just Vampires? There were Mages, too? What the heck?

“What are you saying? I may be important to Blake but not as important to be called the woman he loves. I know him better than you do. That guy does not even believe in love!” I said, aware that I am almost freaking out. And who wouldn’t be?

But I needed to keep Marcus talking to buy some time. I often called my parents after coming home. I’m sure that if they did not receive a call from me, they would figure out that something was wrong. They would definitely call Luke and if they could not get a hold of him, too, they would certainly inform Blake about the situation.

And Blake, I believe that he would find me. He finds me no matter what. Whenever life was at its hardest for me, he would always magically show up in front of me as if he could tell right away how I feel.

“It’s okay to run away or to hide when things get rough. Whatever happens, you will never be alone. I promise you that. I will always come find you, Can-Can. So don’t be afraid,” that was what Blake once told me using the nickname that only my parents used to call me. That’s why just like before, I just have to believe that he would show up again no matter how impossible it may sound, that he would make a way to get us out of this crazy situation.

Blake, please find me ASAP. I’m about to lose my mind here. I’m scared.
