7: Set Up

~Rick ~

"This is how we will destroy him and know if he will still be in this pack to look for someone to exercise his nonsense authority," I said to my mom, who has been listening to me.

After the incident with the Alpha, I have been thinking of a way to pay him back. Since he got a mind and ordered the rogues to disgrace and torture me in public in front of those wolves with no rank, if not for the Luna that came to my rescue, no wolf would have any atom of respect for me after seeing me being tortured.

"Rick, I don't think that is a perfect idea for revenge; leave the case to me, and I will handle it, okay? Have you forgotten who gave birth to you? I will set him into confusion so that he will regret ever knowing this wolf pack." She smirked.

I smiled, looking at her trustfully.

"So what strategy do you have? Since the Alpha clan is full of trained warriors and Omegas, I thought it would be difficult to do anything that would result in going to his house for any mission," I suggested.

She gazed at me with disappointment. "And you think you can achieve anything without taking a risk, Rick?" she asked with disbelief.

"Alright, what idea do you have? Let's take it fast; there's no more time for delaying," I uttered.

"There is a staff that belongs to the pack; it has been in this pack for ages, and not every wolf knows about it. Whenever the ruling Alpha steps down, he will secretly hand it over to the next Alpha. It is very important that no Alpha can rule without the aid of that staff. So I suggest we go and steal the staff; by the time the adversaries come, his condition will be worse than that of a slave." She suggested smiling mischievously.

I was baffled all the while she was speaking, more worried about how she knew about the staff. And going into the Alpha's house to perform that risky task she suggested seemed difficult to me.

"How did you find out about the staff and its value? Does my father also know about it?"

"That question should not be relevant for now, after the deed is done, then we may talk about that," she replied.

"Ok, when are we starting with the plan?" I asked.

"We should wait for your father; I will discuss it with him also. Maybe he would have his ideas too, and please do not let anyone else hear about this discussion, even if it's your fated mate." She cautioned.

I nodded my head, assuring her I would keep it secret.

Now I am super delighted that at least the Alpha will now taste a bit of pain.

We waited for my father to come back from his illegal trip. He would go to the pack boundary to devour some weak, helpless wolves that might have been going to the river late in the day and bring some blood for us after he had satisfied himself.

We waited for some hours before he finally came back. My mother brought up the topic after she had finished serving him food. I could hear them mention the alpha, but I couldn't get any sensible tenses. I did not contribute to the discussion because I was already drowsy when he came back.

It was a silent eerie morning when everyone was still asleep except the pack warriors, who are always awake guarding the clan. I was still asleep and snoring when I felt a pat on my shoulder. I ignored the patting to continue with my sleep, but it continued, making it difficult to continue with the amazing sleep. I woke and found my mother beside me.

"Marshall, this is the time, we have to go now. I discussed the topic with your father, and he accepted the idea of stealing the packing staff. So I concluded that early morning is the perfect time for taking action because there would be fewer warriors and omegas, and the majority of them would still be asleep.

I glared at her in disbelief, almost fidgeting as if I were already caught in the act.

"So what role would I play?" I questioned her.

"You'll go in after me into the Alpha Clan and cause a commotion in disguise when I am inside, so their attention will be outside while I am searching for the staff."

I sighed. "And what happens if you get snagged?" I asked inquisitively, leaving her in a furious state.

"Rick, no one prays for that! or do you?"

"Not at all," I replied, swiveling my head in a sign of rejection.

"Let's go, no more time for too many talks."

We left for the Alpha house, leaving my father in the house to watch over it and also make it seem like we were all at home.

"If we all leave the house empty, we might become suspects once the Alpha realizes the staff is missing, he may then question our current way about" was what my mom suggested.

We reached the Alpha house, and we both went on to our different roles. She walks confidently into the Alpha house, and I stood there watching her go far before I come in, to avoid suspicion. I stared at her until I could not see her anymore, then I made my move too.

I went inside and pretended I came for a good reason. I noticed the warriors were fully on duty, not even one was missing. The Omegas are not yet on duty. I stood beside the beta, sweating profusely.

"Sebastian, how about the Alpha? I thought he comes out of his room before this time every morning. I hope he is fine in there." I questioned him and pretended to care much about the Alpha.

Just then I heard a loud noise from the Alpha's chamber, and my mind was immediately stuck in a loop of anxious thoughts. I became overly concerned about the situation of my mother there.
