Chapter 6: Betrayal

My forehead creased when I turned to look at Izaac. His face remained blank. I am utterly confused about what he's talking about. A theory?

“To test what?” I asked

“Do you trust me?” His tongue reached his lower lip. I don't trust him enough, that's for sure. Ambrose I can trust fully, but him? I don't think so.

“No.” I answered truthfully.

“Good.” How is that a good thing? Seriously, what is he up to?

Before I could even ask, a sharp thing grazed through my palm. It wasn't cut that deeply but it sure as hell hurts. I watched in panic as blood pool on my palm.

I looked at Izaac in disbelief. “What the hell?” I said, sharply. My fist balled in anger as I pulled my bleeding hand close to my chest.

“Show me your hand.”

“What the hell were you thinking?” I asked, thinking of any reasonable explanation behind his asshat behavior.

“Your hand, Feyre.” His voice growled, as if by coincidence a flash of lightning strikes the gloomy sky. It means a storm is coming, a huge one.

Glaring at Izaac, I moved my arm and showed him my supposedly bleeding hand but now it wasn't bleeding anymore. It healed. Well, it's scarred but it's fully healed. I can heal myself. It took this long for me to figure out. Since that night at the back of the castle, I was bitten but it healed the next morning.

“You healed.” Izaac stated, his eyes bore to me as if I'm something foreign in his eyes. I healed, so what now? We have one clue in finding out what I really am. I'm pretty sure I am no vampire because I don't really thirst for blood and I don't have special abilities like them. Oh wait, I do have the ability to heal within minutes but Izaac already said it. I'm not like them and I'm way different. I can't be a werewolf either; I can't shift and werewolves can't heal this fast.

A loud howling erupted out of nowhere and a couple of growls followed seconds after. Izaac strained his ears and his eyes snapped at the east of the forest. His hand wrapped on my wrist as he scanned the surroundings.

“We need to leave.” I pulled his arms.

“Izaac,” I looked around, worry and fear crept to my whole body.

“Werewolves.” He mumbled, his eyes glistened through the moonlight.

The howls came closer. I could hear their heavy paws hitting the dead leaves on the ground. The wind grew stronger and my hair flew with the moist air. Gray clouds draw closer as if the heavens know we're in a huge danger. Waves of fear and anxiety just made my legs wobbly.

“Izaac,” I called out his name and with shaking hands, I tugged on his shirt.

Four large beasts flew onto the air and landed on the ground just a couple steps from us. Their fur is shadowed by darkness; it's almost impossible to distinguish the colors. One wolf stood massive and the others followed behind it like little pups.

“Gallo.” Izaac spat, his eyes darkened.

The huge wolf growled with rage as if it knew the vampire in front of it. Of course, Izaac knew the wolf. Based on the unfriendly greetings, I assume they weren't close to being friends.

The wolf turned its head towards my direction and suddenly my breathing hitched. Its muzzle rose, inhaling the air, those red eyes darkened even more. The wolves licked their mouths and pierced me with hungry eyes.

Izaac stood in front of me. The wolf jumped at him, they stumbled over. Both fought to stand back but Izaac got clawed causing him to hiss at the beastly attack. The latter pushed the big wolf and it hit the trunk of a tree, a growl of pain escaped its mouth.

The three other wolves let out a loud snarl, ready to lunge at us any moment now. One wolf ascended towards me and let out a low growl, licking its mouth; the saliva dripping from its half-opened mouth.

“No,” This is not happening. Oh, dear goodness!

I took a step back, slowly. A loud scream escaped my lips when the wolf tackled me down. It scratched my neck with its powerful claws. I heard it growling in pain, I could hear the smell of something burning.

My sight became blurry and I could feel my lungs tightening and out of air. My pulse weakened. I coughed out blood, lots of blood that I'm choking. The taste of metallic poured on my tongue. It's disgusting.

Suddenly, the weight on my stomach disappeared. Izaac was there. With green eyes that held disappointment, he stood there. The wolf lay dead on the ground without a head, blood pooling on its body. Its claws were burnt black.

The two other wolves howled, as if in pain to see their brother dead and headless. The huge wolf came back on track. It growled; its eyes glowed brighter than before; they were angry, furious even.

“Izaac!” I let out a yelp when a tight, muscular grip held me in one swift move. Then a fairly strong gush of cold wind burst on my face. I saw how the dead leaves flew on Izaac's sudden speed.

“Go faster,” I whispered, looking back at the creatures behind us. My throat is dry and so are my lips but I didn't care. We need to escape from these beasts quickly. The huge wolf caught up while the other wolf followed behind.

“Stop talking. You'll only make your condition worse.” Izaac mumbled in a low voice as he sped up his pace. After a few while, we lost them.

I did what he told me. My hand is placed on my bleeding neck, putting pressure on it until it heals.

Izaac ran on our trail home. It's like everything was slowing down, like the sound of cracked tree branches when Izaac hit them accidentally. The scenery is very beautiful yet as minutes go by, some become blurry. I doubt that I'll still be awake when we reach the castle because my visions started to darken, my mind felt woozy. I was beyond exhausted, physically and mentally.

Izaac betrayed me and I'm glad I didn't trust him in the first place.

“I'm truly sorry,” A voice whispered in my ear.

Slowly, I lost into the deepest darkness.
