CHAPTER 6_ It's All A Lie...

Maya fell on the bed panting softly. She raised her head up to meet Kelvin's annoyed gaze. He turned away from her walking to the drawer in the room. He unlocked the first drawer with a key he took out of his pocket.

He soon returned back to her with a file in his hand.

“You badly crave for your husband don't you? Here. Take a look at the man you're yearning to meet” He spat in distaste throwing the file next to her on the bed.

Kelvin was patient enough to stand there and watch her struggle to pick up the file. He wanted her to see things for herself. According to what he found out about her, he knew she wouldn't listen to anything he had to say against her husband.

But there was more to Cameron that she wasn't aware of.

Maya picked up the file slowly. She took a glance at the man standing before her contemplating whether to flip the hard covers or not.

She knew deep down that whatever this file entails wasn't going to sit well with her and she was equally afraid to find out what it was all about. Maya finally mustered enough courage to flip the file open.

A gasp left her lips at the first page where different photos were displayed. In all of the images, only two people appeared in them. A male and a female. She recognized the male to be her husband Cameron, and the lady was not a stranger to her either.

“Shelly” She mouthed in disbelief. Her eyes turning red as the seconds ticked by.

“At bars, hotels, clubhouses and so many more. Your beloved husband has been enjoying his life outside your marriage with your own cousin sister. How does that make you feel right now? I can still take you to him if you want”

Maya snapped her head at him with a sharp glare. “And what makes you think that I'd believe what this doctored files say other than my own husband's words? I don't know about you, but I don't have any doubts about my husband” She paused. Rising to her feet she arched a brow at him.

“This is just one of your ways to separate me from my husband. And I'm warning you for the last time, let me go! I need to see Cameron!” She yelled at him.

“And I'll say this for the last time, I'll not let you go back to the man that tried to kill my kid! You can only leave after my kid is born! So get used to your new life!” He retorted in fury. His veins popping all over his arm and his clenched fist. He gave her one final glance and left the room.

“You can't force me to stay here! I'll leave from here soon!” She yelled back at him watching him leave.

Crash!

“He still hasn't called to check up on me?!”

The servants in the room stared at the ground unable to utter a word. Their young Miss was in one of her frenzy and destructive mode where silence was better than speaking.

Another vase flew in their direction crashing on the ground but they dared not move an inch away from her.

Luckily for them, the door opened to reveal a woman who appeared to be in her late forties or early fifties. She gasped, scanning the room which was now a mess.

“Jessy! What is the meaning of this? Are you trying to hurt yourself again? You just came back from the hospital-

“Just be quiet Mum! I don't want to hear anything from you! Kelvin hasn't called. He didn't even bother to check up on me despite all I went through at the hospital!” Jessica barked pacing around the room. A few droplets of water rolling down her cheeks.

Sophia Herring sighed walking closer to her daughter. She didn't know how to comfort her broken daughter anymore. There was nothing she could use to justify Kelvin's action this time.

Sophia knew that something was wrong between her daughter and Kelvin but neither of them has opened up about it to the family.

“Honey I'm very sure that he'll call back. He must be busy with work and-

“I almost died! I lost a child! What could make him so busy to see his fiancee?! What exactly could he be doing-

She paused for a second. Realization struck her into the possible reason Kelvin wasn't with her.

“It's about her. How could I have forgotten?!”

Despite everything she had done to get his attention. Even going as far as to harming the baby to get him.

“What are you talking about?”

Jessica ignored her mum's query and walked past her heading out of the room. She wasn't allowed to go out yet because of her weak body. She lost way too much blood the previous day.

“Jessica! You're not strong enough to go out!”

Kelvin stared down at the tray containing a meal overturned before him. This was the second time Maya had overturned a tray brought to her in the last five minutes.

He couldn't leave without making sure that she had her breakfast. They might not like each other at all but she was the mother to his unborn baby.

“Give it here”

The old maid placed the third tray on Kelvin's outstretched hand. He placed the tray on the bed where Maya occupied deep in her thoughts. Her cheeks stained with fresh tears.

He pulled off his black suit jacket and tossed it to the couch in the bedroom. Pulling off his cufflinks, he rolled up his sleeves to his elbow.

“Leave us” He ordered the maid standing behind him. She offered a bow and left the room to the two.

Kelvin took a seat on the bed and picked up the tray placing it on his laps. The tray contained whole-grain waffles with avocado, scrambled eggs, and a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice.

“Trust me, I don't care about you. All I care about is my baby growing inside you and for my baby to grow healthy, it means that I have to cater for all your needs”

“I just want to see my husband. He must be so worried about me”

Kelvin held Maya's chin and gave it a little squeeze. Her lips parted open for him to place a piece of waffle in.

“That depends on how well you behave Maya” Her name rolled on his tongue.

Maya snapped her head to him. There was the way he called her name that touched a part of a suppressed memory.

“It was you..” She mumbled in uncertainty.

She remembered someone calling her repeatedly before she passed out the previous day. That voice didn't sound like Cameron so it had to be him.

“What are you not telling me?” She questioned at the verge of tears.

Kelvin took a long meaningful glance at her. He picked up the glass of orange juice and outstretched it to her lips.

A deep smirk at the corner of his lips after she hesitated to part her lips.

“Don't worry there's no pill in it. I care about my baby a lot to harm him or her”

Maya's eyes widened in shock. Now everything was gradually falling place in her head. She placed a palm over her belly.

Cameron…

He tried to kill the baby. She recalled how he was persistent on her having the orange juice. And after she did, he disappeared for a while.

“He..he tried to hurt the baby” She choked out amidst tears.
