Chapter 4

"I want fifty males and fifty females, the lord servants are not efficient," she said as she hurriedly scan through the room

"There are a lot to choose from," he said submissively, The people he was working for brought in a total of two hundred humans,  a hundred males and hundred females also,  he had sold fifty-five of them.

"The rest are in the other tents," the auctioneer said humbly

She looked one more time and  was not too impressed with the ones she was seeing here, they looked sickly though that was expected since they were not treated poorly, she had a huge frown on her face after taking a good look around

She went to the second tent with hopes to see better ones.

She picked twenty-nine people both males and females

she then proceeded to the next tent,  she looked more impressed with the men there, they looked healthy and had a muscular features, she picked the remaining men from there and ten girls, she went to the last of the tent and picked the remaining females.

April and Jenny were among the females from the last tent.

Hundred people were squeezed into a large truck and taken to an unknown destination.

*April's POV

The thought of me watching helplessly as the auctioneer bid me scared me.

I peeked out of the window and realize that this dimension looked exactly like the one I was coming from, the only difference was its setting.

  it had an ancient korean setting, the houses here looked like the ones our forefathers used, but were more fashionable.

The truck stopped moving, and moments later a man opened the back of the truck.

"Get down," he said in a hoarse voice, there was a large visible scar on the left side of his cheek, which made him look scarier.

I stepped out of the truck and was met with a very large building.

'VALLEY ESTATE' was boldly written at the entrance.

The yard was very quiet one could hear a pin drop clearly.

Five females walked up to us and then led us to the least pleasant place on the estate, a lot of people with the same dress were there they all looked like workers, and the place was busy and lively everyone was in a clique doing one thing or the other.

I felt warm inside even back on earth there was nothing like this everyone lived in fear, and the warmness suddenly turned into anger, we were living like that because of these people, yet they were enjoying themselves, no one dared to come outside on earth because we were all afraid, I sighed inwardly, I quietly followed the rest into the largest building in the courtyard, we told to stay in a straight line.

After waiting for almost half an hour,  an old lady showed up, she was wearing a black long skirt with a dull black shirt, one would think she we mourning someone, she had a cold glare on her face as she looked at everyone and inspected them carefully I shivered slightly under ger cold stare immediately it passed me, I felt relieved and heaved a sigh u never knew I was holding.

She looked slightly displeased, which made me wonder why. She began rearranging us and this time in four places, I was in the second to the last badge while Jenny was in the first badge,  I was unable to voice out my displeasure fearing that they might take off my head

Immediately she was done her face looked satisfied like she was happy with what she was seeing.

She called one of the guards then said something to him immediately she was done the guard dashed out hurriedly and came back with a scroll, she opened it and nodded silently she slowly raised her eyes from the scroll and looked at us.

"The first row would be the bed servants" she looked at them, I suddenly realised that they were not as much as the rest of us and were filled with most of the prettiest girls and jenny was among them, I swiftly looked at Jenny and saw her wiping something off her face, she looked like she had being crying, I clutched my fist hardly, I promise to get her out of there

"You all would be serving the people in the palace, make sure you do well so that you would be awarded greatly, most servants strive for this post and you were all given easily.." She looked at everyone and then added

"Well you deserve the post, these pretty faces should not go to waste"

She then moved to the most populated line

"You all would be food servants, your job is to cook and serve food, nothing more nothing less don't do beyond that," she said then moved to the second most populated line, then turned to the food servants line

"The other food servants would teach you how to cook...and also you are in charge of cleaning the palace" she added then faced the less populated tow properly.

They were all males  which made me curious as to which work would be assigned to them

"You all would be in charge of guarding the palace and going to fight wars" the first thing I thought of  was how would they bring themselves to fight for the people that kidnapped them and made their home a dangerous place to live in, these people had no conscience 

The old lady said without blinking an eye, she quietly moved to the my lane and said

"You people are in charge of providing medicine and providing treatment for the guards and nobles," she said and folded the scroll quietly, I was appointed to provide medicine for the nobles, I this not like a blessing in disguise, it would make my job easier I could easily eliminate them without having to fear that I would get killed.

Everyone started whispering then it turned into a murmur, the gall became so loud, some had a dull look on especially the newly assigned bed servants and guards, while some had a face that showed that they were relieved.

The majority of them had already given up on their faith.

The local servant that is the chores servant followed a lady who was inside the hall this whole time but I just noticed.

Luck was just on my side but not on Jenny's side my heart bled as I watched Jenny walk out of the room.

I was taken to a large piece of land, different types of herbs were placed on the ground, and a lot of workers which had white robes on and a chef-like caps on their heads were moving around either inspecting the medicine or drying some medicinal herb, I was amazed by the amount of medicine that was there,  I looked around then realised I don't know any medicine.

A man who looked like he was in his fifties walked toward us and welcomed us in with a smile

"Do any of you have any idea on medicine even if its from earth?" he asked warmly

I knew a lot about medicine and how to cure sickness or injury, I was an expert in that field, and that was what helped to sustain my late mum. my heart sank as ℹ recalled my happy memories.

People began to raise their hands slowly, they were very few of them,  the man's smile widened

"Great, that's good, you are just okay,  I will look forward to working with you" they grinned and divided everyone including the ones that did not raise their hands.

I was among the ones that were in charge of drying leaves, the ones that raised their hands were separated from us, I had no idea where they went to but I am sure their work was going to be less stressful I silently scolded myself for not raising my hands. I picks up a leaf and sniffed it, I almost barfed as it came in contact with my nose, it smelled horrible.

I finished my work first, it was not a big deal cause even if the herbs were different the process a the same, the lady who was our newly assigned teacher was surprised at how fast I was, the others were still at the beginning and also struggling with the first process

"Young lady, you should have told us that you were an expert in this field instead of stressing yourself" the lady was so straightforward, I was expecting her to say 'wow, oh my, you are a fast learner' or any words of compliment.

She raised an eyebrow still waiting for my reply

"I......th..ought it would be different since we are dealing with different herbs" I stumbled

"Just head straight to that door" she pointed to a large building,  I thanked her silently and rushed to the door I was happy, at last, am free from those stinky herbs.

I got to the large building it was so big and wide, it had these ancient Korean designs that one would only see in a movie, I opened the door and was greeted by the smell of blood, the whole place was busy, people in white were going from one bed to another, people were covered with blood and layed lifeless on the bed,  I was horrified

"What are you looking at, come and assist me" an old man called out as he tried to stop the blood that poured out from his side ribs, the man groaned in pain, I quickly rushed to his side waiting for him to bark out orders

"Pass me the bowl" I took the bowl from the table and then placed it in his hands

"Hey you, you look less busy come and assist me," a young lady said, her hair was packed up in a bun, with strands coming out of the bun.

She looked stressed out, I quickly went to where she was, she check the man's pulse then sighed in relief, she asked me to check the other man's pulse, I quickly did as I was told, the man was laying unconscious on the bed, he looked peaceful.

I went around looking for who to assist, everyone was busy and did not care if I was there or not.

A girl layed unconscious on the bed which made me curious, she was the only female in the hall I moved closer to her, she was breathing softly, her face was paled, I brought a bowl of water with a clean towel, squeezing the hard towel I brought it to her face and cleaned it gently while carefully removing the strands of hair on her cheek.

After some minutes I checked her body temperature and it seemed to have calmed down a bit.

I walked out quietly and no one seemed to notice because they were either busy with one thing or the other, I sat down on the cool grass, the open field was not too far from the building but very close to the place where they make herbal medicine.

The place was quiet and peaceful, I looked around, and what greeted my eyes was a beautiful view, the large field was covered with green grasses, the cool slapped my face gently on my face almost taking me to the dreamland, I don't think I have ever felt the way I was feeling now.

After taking in the fresh air I stood up and dusted my gown to remove the invisible dust, after checking my gown I felt satisfied.

I opened the door slowly trying to go in unnoticed, but the door had a  mind of its own, the door made a loud which caught everyone's attention they all looked at me with annoyance.

I forced a smile and timidly walked to the bedstand of the little girl. She was already awake by the time I got there, I sat down on the stool beside her bedstand and smiled warmly at her.
