Chapter 5

CAROL.

"Damn, what a horrible and annoying noise." I reach out and turn off my annoying alarm clock. "I swear I'll buy a better one," I mutter to myself.

But who the hell likes waking up at six in the morning? Not me. I hate waking up early. I drag my heavy body to the edge of the bed and get up. Today would be the start of my new job as the owner of the company's secretary, even though it was Thursday, but that was fine, any day is a good day to start a new job.

The first thing I do is head to the kitchen to make my coffee, so I turn on the coffee maker, put in the coffee, and let it brew while I go to the bathroom: brush my teeth, adjust the heating in the shower, put my hair up in a high bun, take off my clothes and step in.

The sound of the coffee maker indicates that the coffee is ready, so I get out; I wrap my body in a towel and go for my daily caffeine dose, I know I'll need it more than ever today.

I check my closet for something to wear; I decide on a black and white polyester dress, elegant to the knees, sleeveless. Two tones that always give the elegant and confident touch, never fail... I leave my hair loose, do my brown smoky eyes, black eyeliner and mascara. On my lips I put on a lighter shade, Nude. I grab the black heels from the closet and look for my purse all over the place, I find it on the counter island next to my cell phone. I pause at this, surprised to see it there, didn't I take you to the bedroom with me last night? A bit confused, but with no time to dwell on that, I grab the brown folder with my personal information.

I grab the keys ready to leave: I go down the stairs and open the door, the first thing I see on the other side of the street makes me stagger a bit, my breath catches. I hold onto the door frame to not lose my balance and fall on my butt.

"Will I never get used to seeing him? No, of course not."

Will Reyes, so perfectly impeccable in his gray three-piece suit, is leaning on the hood of his black car looking incredibly authoritative and relentless, dark and dangerous. But above all, so unattainable.

I check the time on my wristwatch; seven-fifteen, still early, What was he doing here?

His gray eyes examine me. He doesn't smile, doesn't do anything, no kind of hint to give me confidence to move. He moves away from the car and crosses the street.

"Good morning, Carol!" he approaches me, I reach out to shake his hand, but he ignores my gesture and kisses my cheek. My heart stops for a brief second. His scent, God he smells so good, it's a fantastic fragrance of mint and fresh water with a hint of sweetness, it melts me.

"H-hello. What are you doing here?" I may have sounded like a fool, but this didn't make sense.

"I came to take you to your new job." his voice is deep when he speaks, so much so that it hypnotizes you.

"Oh! Um... I was planning on taking the metro, you shouldn't have bothered."

"You're no bother." the way he looks at me, and the way he pronounces those words, make me think of other things... I shake my head and finish walking out while locking the door, I put the keys in my purse.

"Alright, let's go. I don't want my boss to think I'm late." I tell him as we walk to his car, he opens the passenger door and I get in. Seconds later: we were already getting onto the highway, which was starting to fill up with more cars heading quickly to their destination.

"Sure. We don't want to make a bad first impression." I look at his wonderful profile amazed.

"So you have a sense of humor." I catch a glimpse of a smile, but it doesn't last long, it disappears right away.

"Did you think I didn't?"

"I... I didn't mean that." Damn it! My intention wasn't to offend him.

"Relax, Carol. It's fine."

I sigh and relax in the seat, as I watch London pass us by.

"By the way, you look very pretty." What? I blush completely. And this time I can't hide it.

"Thank you." he seems not to notice, and changes the subject.

"Did you know about Susan and Henry?"

"No more than you... to be honest, we haven't seen each other much lately. So yesterday we caught up on some things."

"I see." he says thoughtfully. "Has she mentioned when she's moving?"

Wait! WHAT?! I turn to him.

"Will, if you're trying to get information out of me, I'm afraid to disappoint you. But I'm not that kind of person, if you want to know something, go and ask her, not me." I was starting to get annoyed. "If you only hired me with that intention, you picked the wrong person, not..."

I'm interrupted.

"Enough, Carol! You're talking nonsense!" his voice is strong, demanding, he turns his face when we stop at a traffic light. "I didn't hire you to give me information about my daughter. It was just a question, since she mentioned that this week you would be moving to the apartment with us... I knew Susan chose her friendship with you well. But damn, you need to calm down."

"Incredible, now I felt like a complete idiot!" I just wanted to bury my head under the seat. I shut my big mouth and didn't speak for the rest of the journey to the company.
